As a school student myself, I disagree with the Supreme Court's ruling in this case. @@iammrbeat You're certainly correct Mr Beat. The problem is that liberalism vs conservatism shouldn't even be taken into consideration when talking about free speech and civil liberties, however, the judicial system has tended to include it's bias in many court cases since the founding of our country.
As the Former President of the student journalism board, a actually have to disagree. The Editorials in the paper were always the talk of the town, and if extremely sensitive or embarrassing subjects are in it, they can disrupt learning. Another thing is, the school isn’t forced to pay for the paper at all. The Principal could’ve shut us down, so given that, it seems fair to not run an article about teen pregnancy.
With free speech being increasingly used (generally by conservatives) as a partisan political topic, these Supreme Court briefs are a great resource for learning about legal restrictions on free speech and the justifications behind them.

In the 60’s & 70’s everything that was “establishment” was met with “anti” it was just a way of life. Cutting class by many was considered Flipping the proverbial bird at the principal or who ever chased those escaping. Smoking in the bathrooms & not just the regular stuff either was just to say if you tell “us” we can’t, then we will. I wasn’t that enlightened. My family were essentially immigrants & it was not done. I agree with the students in this because they have reasons & sex in high school, teen pregnancy & the communication crash needed & still needs to be available. Especially with the STD’s , date drugs. The students are smarter than they are given credit for. By pretending that sex, pregnancy & parents divorcing or living in a violent household doesn’t exist just makes it harder for students or families in need reach out for help. The domestic violence I have have witnessed & even been a victim. I was fortunate my family held tight together. But all the same I was not allowed to talk about it & it does need to be talked about. Those students may have had first hand knowledge as well. We can’t keep shoving it under the rug, because the mound gets too high & we never get over it
President During this time: Ronald Reagan Chief Justice: William Rehnquist Argued October 13, 1987 Decided January 13, 1988 Case Duration: 92 Days Decision: 5-3 in favor of Hazelwood (Marshall, Blackmun, Brennan Jr.)
I think If the school went so far as to prevent the students from privately reprinting the articles, and distributing it all themselves, then I think that would be a clear violation of their free speech. I personally don't believe the material is objectionable, but I do think the school was within their rights to remove the articles. The school should definitely have been transparent about it to the students though.
Remember. The state says we are allowed to have freedom of speech! But I only from the state or gov. But actually no you can't speak out against the state or gov.
As a student I definitely stand with the court. Is an editor of a new paper editing an article restricting journalists first amendment rights? If I print the news paper than I should decide what goes in it.
They should protect the 1st amendment rights of students because in school the more my teachers shut me up for no reason the more I think there violate the 1st amendment rights of students!

I agree with the Supreme Court on this case because it was a school sponsored newspaper they had the right to control it. And the school did not stop or punish distributing the articles on their own.
the right yes, but what about the CAUSE? these reasons were bullshit. As long as anybody interviewed was protected by reasonable journalistic standards (names redacted) and was willingly participating, it is not the principals job to determine if they could tell their story or not. The advisor saw no problem, which shows they did take sensible steps to protect their interviewees and the Principal was once again putting personal morals over a reasonable standard of professional conduct.
Great video Mr. Beat! Also I have a really good feeling that Trump will win Ohio, Florida, ( did you see the big Boaters for Trump parade in Tampa) and Wisconsin. I also have a good feeling he will get reelected. I feel like Biden, Harris and the Democrats are to radical for those states. There too radical for me too.
@@iammrbeat I guess it might not apply to this situation like I thought it did since I was thinking about how the funding of the newspaper by the school could override the freedom of press. However thinking deeper it is the school's paper regardless of who's writing the stories (students or faculty) and they have final say in what goes in it. The reporters could still keep the story in if they ran their own publication. My original comment applies more to the theoretical "would you vote against your conscience in exchange for a payment" so it's pretty irrelevant to this situation

We can’t keep shoving it under the rug, because the mound gets too high & we never get over it
Favorite series!! Yay!
Interesting video, good work
Glad you enjoyed it!

Can you do Another Supreme Court Briefs Next week?
I already have my videos planned out weeks in advance, but I do have more planned of this series in the coming months!
Great video, you should cover Lyng v Northwest Indian Cemetery Protective Association. I’m having to learn about it for my American religion class.
I wish I could have political discussions with you, you're one of my favorite youtubers by far
I tend to agree with this analysis.
Remember. The state says we are allowed to have freedom of speech! But I only from the state or gov. But actually no you can't speak out against the state or gov.
Wow! Both White and Stevens sided with Scalia.
They are probably verified on twitter
As a student I definitely stand with the court. Is an editor of a new paper editing an article restricting journalists first amendment rights? If I print the news paper than I should decide what goes in it.
can you make video about virginia vs west virginia comparison
I remember reading a fictional children's book about this years ago which I'm only now realizing was based on a true story.
I've been to hazelwood, that place defiantly would be the place that would have a case go to the supreme court.
Are you from St. Louis?

Rule Number 1 if there is a new video about a Supreme Court Case by Mr Beat: GIVE A LIKE
Rule Number 2: If someone leaves a nice comment, Mr. Beat gives the comment a heart.
Mr. Beat now THIS is a great rule
Fact: we all love Mr. Beat right guys......right?.... OH SNAP I forgot the 100,000 subs celebration video, but a mojority loves him that is for sure
He shouldve simply asked em
Once again, a wonderful video
Thank you! Cheers!
Comparing Czechia and Slovakia
Kind of off subject but Mr Beat's voice sounds a lot like Company Man's voice.🤔
When you read what the first amendment says it restricts Congress not school principals. "Congress shall make no law...".
But don't forget that the 14th Amendment later applied the First Amendment to the states...and thus state laws...and thus state officials.
I always like the gavel animations in these.
you should make a video on the most influential first ladies!!!
Horrible decision
Can you Compare three countries
It would have to be a special circumstance. I'm afraid it might complicate the video too much if I were to do so.
Thanks for the video!
well i just saw an ad about the defense of the fourth amendment, talk about tactical advertising ?
Was it for the ACLU?
Mr. Beat no just some other group, i forgot
Don't agree with the court ruling.
They should protect the 1st amendment rights of students because in school the more my teachers shut me up for no reason the more I think there violate the 1st amendment rights of students!
Hello Mr. Beat ,
How are you doing?
Good. Thanks for asking. How are you doing?
@@iammrbeat Good! Getting alot of reading done in these lockdown period.
Love what you do ❤️
As a student my self, I disagree with the case, looks like "Equal Justice Under the Law" dosen't sand for all of the US citizens, Oh if Principal Reynolds hadn't picked up that paper, so the principal thought letting kids read about the harsh truth isn't appropieate, well teen pregnancy is a pretty big issiue, a baby could ruin a womans life for getting in the middle of their studies, in fact it happened to an my auntie, who knows maybe Mr. Beat teached a preganant teen once, also divorce is a mayor issue that should be prebented from teenagehood soo, yeah at least they actually published the paper, well sadly the Court trew their poop in the constitution by violating it themselfs, We the People stands for all the people OK well Tinker v. Des Monines is on my side, bad case but awsome video still, I love this channel, this is one of my favorite series why does it take so long for another Case, when you first came up with this cases you made more vids, I am here for HI-STORY (a story) and a case is a story, well at least you got one of this vids slaped right in the middle of a Cyper video, also I wnated to ask mainly about school, you are goign back to buissness, and I am too, I feel nervious because teachers don't have as much influene on us virtually, this si goign to be a hard year, and I feel worried and a little sceared, but still this videos realx me they are fun, simple cool and short, you are the leader of history on social midea, I love this cases I love your videos and peopel you should subscribe because mr. beat nearly allways tells the truth, he is not bias, he is just a kindharted guy tellign us why america became so awsome, histor is not only important because it cool it is like when techers took you to the librery sat you on the floor and told you a storie, that is history a cool true storie, you keep making this awsoem work Mr. Beat because this channel is like a drug it is adictive but unlike a drug it actually does good to the brain so cool, and those songs should eb more recognized cuz you and your brother made the band of the decade, I can't stop dancing when I here your songs, if they do a third Llive Aid concert you must be there man, now If their is someone who reads my comments apart form Mr. Beat himself, you might have the theorie I am being paid to make Mr beat propaganda, well WRONG I do disagree with him on only one little big thing, PRESIDENTS!!! of all things, yeah Mr. Beat made a tier list of Presidents a few months ago and it is terrible, sorry Mr. beat but only slave owning George in the S tier, he didn't only own slaves he is only rememebered for being the first presdient and being the first to do a bunch of stuff, is like if you were golorified for your first day of work, he didn't even have policitical expirience, his life is also noy that intersting, Washington is also not exacly a great military comander just look at the losses of 1777, Philadelphia was captured for cring out loud (the capital Philadelphia not the cream philadelphia why will British want cream) , his soldiers where freezing, starving and supplieless, they also had little to no military training, and when they tried to escape to their families for their own survival so that their childern won't lose their father, Georie just sent them to the fiering esquad or hanged them, he also called Benedict Arnold (the best commander of the conflict who should have becomed President) well George just send him a letter telling him he was inaptopiate, promting Arnold to swich sides thus giving Washington the Presidency, Ulysses Grant was a far suppirior military commander, look at Shilo, Fort Henry and Donelson, Corinth, Vicksburg, and Abe Lincoln who had it hard scince childhood, and he gave all his phisical, political, mental, and genious stregth to save this countries but, he fell into deppresion twice, lost his mom, syster, and first romance, he GOT THE B TIER, OMG, also he is with FDR in the tier who is the reson why europe is not a Nazi empier today, Madison who wrote the freacking Constitution in B tier, Jackson and John Q in the same tier, Regan in C tier, Polk in C tier who is the reson for the US to be the US, Adams in the D, Grant in the d, Johnson only for the Vietnam war at D, Obama who saved us from the recession at D, Nixon at F who was calmed our relation ship with the Soviets, and Cleveland abobe Roosvelt, and only silly george gets S, well my theorie is that Mr. beat had too much vodka that day and was drunk for the tier list, don't worrie Mr. Beat we all get drunk from time to time, anyway still with that exeption all else is great hard work, god bless you Mr. beat, it was an awsoem video you are still great, and I still love you great work in the vid byeeeeeee
This was great!
POV you forgot the s in mr beast
I don’t agree with the decision but at least they gave us the right to make are own
Great video Mr.
Thanks buddy. I do predict that Trump wins in Wisconsin and Ohio. However, I think he loses Florida, which almost guarantees a Biden victory.
@@iammrbeat I'm from Florida. With recent changes in voting law, I agree, I think Biden will win Florida.

Yeah, a lot of folks have been suggesting that.
Wwwwoooo supreme courts briefs is back baby!!!
YAS :D
Nothing dictates morality like cold hard cash
I'm having trouble following where you're going with that point.
This seems like such a small thing to go to court over if I’m honest. Your a high school newspaper. Your not changing the world with your valuable insight.
That is interesting
I go over this case with my Government students every semester!
