It still makes me mad that the Lakers lost KCP to get Russell Westbrook after the 2020 finals. We lost a guy who fit perfectly for a guy who never fit from day one, and this was back before the apron clauses existed, so the Lakers would've actually afforded to pay him. I miss Alex Carusso too because his defense would've been a great thing to have if we kept him in 2023 during the WCF matchup with the Nuggets.
100% I feel like Jarrett Allen has to be in the convo. Dude is good for the locker room, is a double double every night, border line all star talent, defensive menace
I’ll always associate Derek White with the bloody smile after he smashed his mouth in the playoffs. That’s what it feels like when your team goes up against him lmao
Jarrett Allen. He’s an elite defender, good rebounder, and can crush the rim, but he doesn’t really generate his own offense at all (79% of his career FGs are assisted, more with Cleveland). But when he’s on the floor, the game shifts. He can guard basically anyone and puts himself in great spots like Aaron Gordon. Basically an ideal recipient for passes from the dunker’s spot, and has chemistry with all of Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, Max Strus, and Caris LeVert. Just a good player who is always ready.
What makes Derrick White so good in my eyes is that he plays the game like he can see the game in 3rd person. I’ve seen him make some big defensive plays most guys wouldn’t have the angle on but he somehow makes. I think it was against Derrick Liveky where he played the lob and the layup as a guard. That isn’t even common for bigs to do, Giannis won a finals off of performances like that, to have guys in that role as a role player is crazy fortunate for whoever has that guy.
If the plays and team don’t run thru you majority of the time, and/or you don’t guard the best player on the other team majority of the time, I think imma call you a role player
Its actually crazy how good that team is. Don't forget Hauser a really good 3 point shooter and Porzingis ain't even playing. D White, Porzingis and maybe even Jrue would all be all stars if they weren't on that Boston team, that team is actually so crazy good.
I feel like Steven Adams and is a great role player who fills in all the gaps! He’s an elite screen setter, rebounder, a consummate professional, and great locker room presence. I think Steven is a Top 10 role player in the league.
Caruso, Josh Hart i saw play in summer league. Really cool to see those guys thrive as role players for multiple teams now. Summer league in vegas is fun if you've never been. A box is super cheap, you get to watch multiple games, you might see a future nba champion, all star, or future all defensive players. Lol nobody on that pistons summer league team are in the nba anymore.
Aaron Gordon has to be my favourite and the best, hes not quite the defender jrue is but he is just as if not more versatile with his size. Plus, he is more fun to watch with his high flying dunks and he has a bit more offensive spark still left in him than holiday
I have an idea to throw in the hat of content idea like what if yall did career retrospectives over retired greats like mj,Kareem,Kobe, Tmac,Vince Carter, etc

Lowkey Keon Ellis should be on here. Kings generally struggled with defense but the Kings were a top 10 defense last year in minutes he played. Also he was responsible for the 0/10 play in Klay performance 😭

Based off of these descriptions of a role player, then Kevin Durant would be the greatest role player of all time. He doesn't care to lead or galvanize the team, he just plays his role as The Scorer
Hear me out, Kevin Durant, I know he's a superstar but he fits the bill for a role player, good enough defensively, (for a superstar where it's outshined by his offensive output) and he doesn't necessarily have a way to guard him, he's just an unbelievably good scorer, off catch and shoots, off screens, he's a borderline role player
Role players are not usually the primary or one of the primary offensive options on a team. Durant has been in that position for the majority of his career compared to actual role players.
11:26 Sorry, but the comparison is completely off. Rodman has been many things, but definitely not a role player. There are some who make it to the All-Star game, but as a role player, like Jrue Holiday or Derrick White, you can't just waltz into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Keep it up and greetings from Germany!
I don't think Jrue applies here because realistically he's not a roleplayer, just on a good team. 2 time champ, 2 time gold medalist, multi-time all star and all defensive player, if he gets one more ring I think it's no question HOF
@kennn30 In my opinion, he has no place in the Hall of Fame. When you think of the best 237 players of all time, do you think of Jrue Holiday? He is an above-average player, especially defensively, but for the NBA Hall of Fame, you need more than 16 PPG. Overall, his role on the respective teams that have won was not significant enough."
