The actor who plays Amenadiel (DB Woodside) was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He had a prominent role as Principal Wood, and kicked some major ass there as well as on Lucifer. :)
So you asked why season 3 was 26 episodes. The last 2 of those were suppose to be in season 4 before fox canceled and they got tacked on as bonus. Great episodes so don't skip them when you get there.
speaking of the actors' previous roles, surprised i'm the only 1 who remembers dan (kevin alejandro) from true blood, a vastly different role than he has on this, & mama (penelope) decker (rebecca demornay) was in hand that rocks the cradle. also mom/goddess was also in 1 of the saddest eps of supernatural (s2: roadkill)
Fun fact about why characters look the way they do, I think I heard that during casting for Lucifer, they wanted someone who wasn't David Bowie. Why is David Bowie brought up? The person who was in charge of the Lucifer comics, told the artist to look at David Bowie and draw that.

Amenadiel (DB Woodside) was in 24. In fact, he and Dennis Haysbert were the presidential brothers. Haysbert joins the Lucifer cast in Season 5.
