How long do cats live is a question that can come up in a cat lover or cat owners mind for a variety of different reasons.
You may want to know a cat’s average lifespan because you just became a new cat parent and you are so overwhelmed with love that you don’t want to lose it ever.
Maybe you want to know how long do indoor cats live because you want to adopt a new kitten and want to know which breed will provide you the longest companionship.
Or maybe you are just curious and want to know cat lifespan on average to increase your IQ.

My cat is turning 19 years this year and I feel she's living her last months/years.
I have taken care of her since I was 9 years old when I adopted her.
She's the best gift I have got in my life.

Mine is currently 16 as of 2021 in the summer. I got her when i was 3 and she was a kitten, i cant imagine my life without her since weve been around each other for as long as weve been in this world.

Evolution can and does bring up some interesting traits including longer and longer lifespans.
In the future our pets could live to 50 years, while we live on average up to our 120s…IF we have the right conditions for that to happen.

We just buried my 18+ yr old black cat and my family is completely devastated. 💔
He was the sweetest, most friendliest cat I've ever met and had the privilege of caring for. I enjoyed sharing my food with him and loved when he licked our eyelids to wake us up for wet food.
Our baby is going to be terribly missed but I'm grateful to give our other 2 cats the extra love and attention they deserve.❤️

I got my cat as a kitten when me and my daughter pulled him out of a pine tree. Fuzzy butt has given us 10 years of fun since then and hope to have many more.
We’ve had 3 cats that lived to be 20+ years. OUTDOOR cats. I’m my experience, if you rescue /adopt a cat that was born and raised out in the wild, it will live longer being able to go outside. Cats get “tuned” or “wired” as kittens. A Cat raised in the wild is way more likely to have behavior problems as an indoor cat. Imho it is CRUEL to keep these types of cats indoors as they will tend to have a high energy level anyway. But they can’t be kept indoors, no more than you can expect a true indoor cat to survive being dropped off in the wild somewhere.
Most common cause of death of our outdoor cats that didn’t live 20 years, was injury from another animal.
Always free fed cats. No weight problems ever, even with the laziest of them.
Situations like you see on “My cat from hell” are actually quite extreme and rare for cats. Cats generally get used to each other in the same territory with no extra effort needed by their humans,
provided they are fed well. Most cats also have “size awareness” and will eat less to keep their weight in check.
I rescued a stray who showed up on my porch and has been indoors for almost 3 weeks but he cries to go outside around dusk. I have considered letting out but i get so so worried something might happen to him. Should i just allow him to go outside? I do want him to he happy

My cats always live to 19 and a half years old and the only male cat I had lived until he was 26 and a half. I'm on cats 5 and 6 who will be 12 and 11 years old... two females and the little loves of my life.

my aunt had a cat in her possession for 32 years, named Gordon (because he was found in Gordon Road). And he wasn't a kitten when he was found
One of my outdoor cats, a mixed shorthair breed, was 27 or even older when she died, the other, my beloved Maine Coon tomcat, was 18 years. I still miss them, but another one, a Calico or lucky cat, found it's way to my home and adopted me, so I am also the lucky one now 😺😂

I've had three cats from one mother cat, each of which were indoor/outdoor cats and all female and all but one were undersized, as far as cats go. The oldest of the 3 got pregnant and then fixed the other two were fixed early enough not to become pregnant.
During the time they lived, l myself had moved a minimum of 4 times all within about a 5 to 35 mile radius of homes and apartments, even among complexes not allowing pets. I simply set up elaborate indoor/outdoor entries, usually in windows to allow them access during winter months as well as humid and hot summer months or rainy seasons.
I fed them both expensive and inexpensive canned food as well as dried food and a mixture of both.
The only shots they ever received were when they were all becoming fixed, other than that they didn't recieve or need any veterinarian assistance or care.
When l was home I'd find time to be with them whether inside or out and love on them, as they me, when inside they'd lay around my bed or on it while we all slept or were watching t.v. and that's how it pretty much went until one by one, first the oldest, the one that had gotten pregnant died, then subsequently the next oldest and then finally the youngest and smallest of the three passed away and all three had had a life span of 19 to 21 years respectively, all the way from Mona to Slinky and finally Squeaky.
There's was not an altogether easy life but it was a long life full of adventure and love for everyone involved and l do miss them all, but l am grateful for the time we had together.

I am a cat lover . Cats helps me go through stress and depression. I live in nature and once a year I see new bunch of kittens hanging around with their mom . The one chooses my rooftop I get in touch by feeding em but never want them to be adopted because I respect their wild life ...cats are good they protect us from mice and rats...god bless u all

Same! My daughter made my wife and I crazy about cats. Lol We started with 2 who are brothers and they’re now 4 years old. Had them since they were 9 weeks. To now having 6. 😬 Each cat we got from the shelter had a sibling we couldn’t separate from.

My oldest has been around 7 years. The youngest has 4 years. Im hoping to keep them till they die, then im done with pets. Quite a commitment but they do the heart some good.

imo due to my experience comparing among stray cat and indoor cat. If the stray cat doesnt infected by deadly disease in their life, stray cats will have longer lifespan, better in mobility, muscular health, independency, agility, hunting insting.

Whatever he was doing may have contributed to the life span of his cat.
A lot of human centenarians attribute all kinds of food and lifestyles to their record breaking ages…so maybe, just maybe we don’t dismiss it.

So one day my mom called by grandpa to hide the cables for the tv bc my cat kept chewing on them basically tv hangs up on the wall and all the cords are just dangling on the bottom so he did that but there’s this little piece of wall just gone and uhh my cat is eating the little pieces of wall that fell out - I’m concerned what the heck do I do

I have first yellow cat in 2008 and he lost in 2015 and i am found one next year and last i see him in 2019 it's mean he have 11 old
Should I be worried that I have a 20 year old cat that acts like a kitten spends 90% of time outside in the woods and has teeth like a 3 year old cat according to the vet. Although the x-rays showed he has arthritis of everything he doesn't show it.

While the domesticated cats average lifespan is around 15 years, many cats do live far beyond that. So yes a cat can most definitely live for 18 years or even more

Mine did and we just lost her a few weeks ago and my husband and I re sick. WE lost our daughter, and mother, and father and everything rolled up in one,
She could not have bowel movements properly and we took her to the Vet and she had an enema and came home and we lost her that night. They just did not know any longer how to help. She never went out and loved us so very much. I needed to protect her forever and we failed. That is how I feel. She had a hard life in the beginning and we got her from the shelter and then she was brushed two to three times a day and just spoiled and am thankful she was happy with us and we with her, all the life she could. 18 yrs did not seem enough.

Don't give them crappy dry food!!! Don't feed them purina or iams or all those crappy brands. Raw and premium brands are the way to go!!!! Give them a lot of exercise and stimulation. How else do you think the world's oldest cat lived to be 38? You can prevent kidney disease and kidney failure most of the time if you give them the proper diet and nutrition and DO YOUR RESEARCH on what's really in your pet food!!!!!
