      So when your chili plant has flowers coming out and then they dry out. The chili should start growing correct? But what if instead the stem dries off then breaks off before a chili grows, what would cause that. Wrong weather conditions, or not enough nutrients, or is there male and female flowers. If so how do I tell the difference.

    • @PetrGanaj
      @PetrGanaj  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eolea19 no, the flowers are both male/female and normally they can pollinate themselves. Mostly it is enough a bit wind or shaking the plants (if there are no insect pollinators). But different varieties have different flower inside and some are easier some more difficult for self pollination. You can always try it manually with small brush (as I did in the closed photo box). Otherwise as you wrote, there are lot of condition possibilities, why it can happen - low or too much water, nutrients, light...

    Great time lapse, thanks! I planted a few seeds and they sprouted, now they are 2 inches long with small leaves, should I repot them separately in bigger pots ? If I plant more than one in a pot, what distance should I keep between them?

    • @PetrGanaj
      @PetrGanaj  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The distance depends on variety (some plants are bigger some not so much). I try to keep a distance minimal about 30 cm, but mostly even more. If the pot is big (deep) enough and the plants have enough soil/nutrients, they can live near to each other - maybe 10-15 cm. But it is not optimal. You'll see, now (with 2 inches) it doesn't seem like that, but when they are fully grown, the crowns take pretty lot of space :)

    • @PetrGanaj
      @PetrGanaj  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, sometimes the color doesn't want to come long time and then suddenly it change :) But every variety can be different and also on this video it can be a bit quicker because the plant got light 24/7

    • @micheals1992
      @micheals1992 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PetrGanaj I thought 24/7 light would be bad for the plant? The plant gets a bit of rest in the dark and I'm sure allot of plants change their growing patterns based on the time difference of day/night. Controlling how it uses its energy, putting energy into growth when the days are shorter and then to flowering and fruiting when the days are longer.

    • @PetrGanaj
      @PetrGanaj  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@micheals1992 Sure normal light changing is of course better for the plant and I have done 24/7 only because of the photo shooting to have constant lightning for the time lapse. I wouldn't do it for growing purposes.

      @PetrGanaj  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks so much.
      Actually it was not the point to grow the plant indoor, I have put it in my photo box just for the first 3 months for the shooting, otherwise it lived then later free on day light on my balcony :) In my box I just have some common LED light which I don't know anymore was for this shooting, I changed it since then more times to avoid the flickering partly seen in the video.
      Otherwise it takes really not much effort to grow a plant. It just need light, water, soil and love ;-)

      It is actually not a growing setup for me, but a photo-box. Otherwise I grow on daylight on balcony. I don't remember which light I used at the time, but it was probably some generic LED. The box is total about 50 cm high and the light is on the top, with something under the plant I think the light was around 30 cm distance to the plant direct (as it grew and filled the box then less of course)

      Probably not pollinated. Depending on variety they are able self pollination, sometimes without external intervention, sometimes with. Do you have it indoors? If yes and there are no bees or other insect to pollinate it, mostly it is enough just shake the whole plant few times once a day to pollinate...

    • @PoojaMehtaHimeshNagar
      @PoojaMehtaHimeshNagar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PetrGanaj The pot is kept outdoor beside the rose plant and yes, I do shake the plant 2-3 times a day. But nothing happened. Same thing happened with capsicum plant 😐

    • @PetrGanaj

      @@PoojaMehtaHimeshNagar well in that case hard to say. Too much water or too little? Too little light or too much? Low nutrients? Can be anything. Some varieties have unfortunate flower structure and the self pollination is harder then. But if you say it is outside, there should be insects to pollinate. You can try it manually with some small brush - just to test it if it helps. Otherwise I don't know anymore...

      @@PetrGanaj Thank you so much for the help! Actually, water can be an issue as it is monsoon season here in India.
      I'll try with a brush. Let's see.

      I've been taking a qtip to the flowers and gently pollinating between them all.

    Where are these kept and are you just watering them did you take seeds out then put in soil and how long did it take for the chilli to grow

    • @PetrGanaj
      @PetrGanaj  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's in home made closed photo box to ensure constant lightning (otherwise i grow on balcony on sunlight). Yes the seeds for this was taken out of a pepper i got. At the beginning (first 2-3 months) just water, later when the soil gets low on nutrients sometimes add some. As in description this all took 3 months (timeline you can see if you enable subtitles)

    • @PetrGanaj

      Jalapeños turn red when fully ripe, but can be eaten also green.
      This one obviously ripes to yellow.

    So do you harvest once and then replant? Or does the paprika regrow on the same plant?

    • @PetrGanaj
      @PetrGanaj  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      mostly I use new purchased seeds or take seeds from bought paprikas, but as i know some plants/varietes can survive winter at home (loose most of the leaves) and grow again next year spring, but I've never tried it

      @@PetrGanaj I had one container jalapeno pepper that gave me 3 peppers grown in a small grow light. Once I put it in the garage it lost all leaves for 6 months over winter, and amazingly enough it grew back last month, and is much bigger now than it was last summer.
