The way they introduced Blackbird was perfect to me, instantly fell in love with the car and the character!
Major Raptor couldn't agree more. I was going insane on the first episode at the end, where he is racing blackbird and we only see his shadow as he is about to crash. That has got to be the best episode ever

Huh. No wonder Akio crashed the Devil Z at first, but then rebuilt it. He didn't have any discipline in racing yet, but after he began learning a lot more, he got much better, up to the skill he is at the end of the Anime now.

initial d reference 1:01 the plate number of Akio's old z is 83-954 and Takumi's plate number was 13-954 so replace the 8 with the 1 and now you have Takumi's plate number

Even though initial d and wangan midnight are both based in racing, they are completely different from each other.
One is the performance. The performance of cars in wangan midnight are so good they go up to 300 km/h
However initial d cars can only go up to more or less than 250 km/h.
Then we got how straight the places are.
Wangan midnight is set in Tokyo on the longest straight.
Initial d takes place on a mountain with twists and turns.
Then how they drive.
Cars in Wangan midnight go straight and grip during turns. They do have scenes which have drifting tho so yea.
In initial d, no matter how many times you go at a fast speed, you have to brake because of drifting.
Soundtrack is completely different as well.
Initial d has light eurobeat (DEJA VU)but wangan midnight has rock music and some other stuff. It also tells you how serious the storylines are.
And speaking of which, storyline in wangan midnight is way darker than initial d. It shows how hard the Drivers try to stop devil z but they end up quitting. Also, backstory for devil z is dark as well.
Initial d is complete opposite. It's just a fun racing anime that does have intense scenes.
Drivers are opposite too. I'm a touge racer but Akio is a guy who races on straights. And they are NOT drag racing.

Initial d (fifth or final stage) is pretty dark as ryosukes girlfriend ends up committing suicide because her husband was abusing her so ryosuke had a battle with her husband (rin hojo) and he tries to kill ryosuke many times and the only way they didn’t both die was because (forgot his name) stopped them by slowing them down just before hitting the ticked booth

Rin Hojo (北条 凛, Hōjō Rin) is the infamous Grim Reaper (死神 Shinigami) of Kanagawa and Go Hojo's elder brother. He was feared for his dangerous racing skill and at the time was engaged to a girl named Kaori, however, the conflict between them including Kaori's affair with Ryosuke Takahashi made her commit suicide. The death of Kaori led to Rin disappearing from the racing scene, resenting Ryosuke and isolating himself for a few years to mourn Kaori. His abrupt disappearance turned him into a legend within the Kanagawa scene.
After years of seclusion, Rin briefly and unofficially returned to the racing scene, with his intent to go after Ryosuke on the anniversary of Kaori's death, making his comeback by ambushing Ryuji Ikeda of Team Spiral during a practice trial. After the race between Project D and Team Spiral, he finally met Ryosuke after years and both raced to the death on the Hakone Turnpike, with Ryuji Ikeda, who had to settle a score with Rin, spectating behind. After failing multiple times to run Ryosuke off the road, Rin tried one last effort to do it again near the end of the race, however, the combination of Ryosuke and Ikeda's cars stopping his R32 and the spiritual presence of Kaori prevented him from doing so. After the race, both he and Ryosuke finally settled their differences and put their past behind them and not forgetting about Kaori.
Finally at peace with himself, he renounced the nickname he had become known for and appeared at Project D's final race against Go's team Sidewinder, reconciling with his younger brother and giving him cryptic advice before watching the races alongside with Ikeda. (I copied this from the initial d wiki)
To put it in simpler words:
Wangan midnight: Tuning and speed
Initial d: Driving and having fun ( 1st - 4th stage )
some fucking magic powers or something i don't fucking know ( 5th stage )
That tesstarossa is what dreams are made of

Power to weight ratio always a factor. I'd be stripping out almost everything in a Dodge Challenger if I want to go faster because American muscle cars are generally weighs more than Japanese sports cars.

Here it's because they only work intermittently, usually right when you need to get somewhere. There's a freeway section near me that's been double fines since June or late May, repave has appeared finished since August and there have been no visible changes since then, you will occasionally see them out there (and they'll even have lanes blocked sometimes) but you never seem to see anything different. Last I heard, they were putting down patches of some kind (on a freshly repaved road). The flashing sign boards, when they're even on, provide fantastically unhelpful messages like "NIGHTLY ROAD WORK USE CAUTION" with zero information about what they're doing or how long it's supposed to take. Seriously guys, it's almost November, it's supposed to snow Sunday night, time to pack up already.
This road will probably be rutted again by the time it's free of ice and double fines simultaneously.

Btw, there’s only like 4 straights in the highway system and 2 of them are very short so really it’s high speed corners and probably 2 very low speed corners.

That was what he used to race with before the 240Z. When he found the 240Z he sold the 300ZX. There's more on that in the manga.

@@echocompany2484 - The "Devil Z" is way faster ~600hp twin turbo L28. The "Devil Z" used to be a race car in fact. If you want more info on that you can watch my video on Hiramoto and Kitami Jun's Origin Stories. In real the L28 turbo factory sponsored racecars had about 700hp. So it's possible to bring the L28 up to that level, although it would be very expensive.

lol Yeah the makers of this show must have had a thing for GT-R's. It would have been nice if they used more of a variety like NSX's, WRX's, and the odd muscle car would be sweet!
This was more or less, based on a real story. GTRs are really popular back then.
it is accurate to the authentic illegal shutoko racers in the 90s, most of them drove GT-Rs because of their tuning potential.
Well in that case I'm glad they kept it true to the real thing! I can see how GT-R's would have been popular.

Well the gearing for the 86 is more “rally” based as they said in D, so it probably wouldn’t do well on highway
