Very Nice but you can do one more thing, that connect the lever with the switch in such a way that when you press the level arm down the motor gets started and by leaving the lever up, it automatically turns off,,,, which can make it more creative,, and advanced .,

I loved this project and I also build for my DIY drill machine.
Could you make a boost up circuit from 5v to 12v by using common ic(like ne555) ,mosfet(like irf540),bjt and inductor which are easily available . not by using lm2577.

I can see the handle deforming & cutting thru that wire staple soon. I'd have the handle actuate along a roller that rotates on bearings. And the section of handle which contacts the roller would be an arch so that its surface is always perpendicular to the drill's path, reducing strain on the press's guide rails. And I would mount the rails on their host beam's sides instead of its face, further reducing strain. The rails are designed to support weight on the other plane that's perpendicular to their path, not the plane that resulted in this design. Also, I'd omit the speed regulator. It's like the throttle on a lawn mower - unnecessary imo.:) Thanks for sharing this ingenuitive video, nonetheless. I found it inspiring. - Subscribed & 👍'd.

The squareness of the entire assembly is in question here. Little apparent care was taken to assure 90 degree alignment everywhere.
I caution everyone to not hand hold work pieces when using a power tool on them. Clamp them or at least press them down on a table top.
There's no real reason to make the speed controller since assembled ones can be had on ebay cheaper than the parts for it cost.
It's a nice project in concept however. The real key to the whole thing though is availability of the 5 mm adapter to attach the chuck to the motor shaft with. I've had no luck finding any such product, which makes me wonder of he made one himself. That could be a challenge for someone without a lathe or a centering chuck (accurately) attached to the larger drill press base.
