This lyric hits way above it's weight class: "Agree to disagree as grown-ups from opposing clans Honoring the push and pull I should have called the Scholomance" 'Agree to disagree as grown-ups from opposing clans', refers to psychiatry being from the Freudian school of psychology, whereas his constant use of symbolism is clearly of a deeply Jungian disposition. 'Honoring the push and pull I should have called the Scholomance', first honoring eastern mystic traditions, like for example Taoism, then borderline lamenting that he should have called for a 'Skullomancer'. I suspect this last part is a reference to a boss in BLOODBORNE, as a good number of references in his other songs are also video game related.
This is the track that got me into Aes. As a 50 year old who grew up on rock, folk, and metal with a small amount of rap mixed in, I’ve come to view Aesop Rock as the greatest lyricist of all time and my absolute favorite artist. I strongly suggest “Fryerstarter” which is a song that talks about insomnia driving him out of his apartment in the middle of the night after moving across the country and discovering a donut shop. He compares it to a religious experience and it is a lot to unpack, but it’s so damn rewarding.
0:40 You can not know that, but (in my theory) the video location either representy aesop rocks safe place/ where he feels home Or his mind Or his mind palace The reason i think this is that aesop shows in a lot of other songs that he is an arcade kid 1. Jonathan, where he and rob sonic are always at the background somewhere for example playing arcades 2. The whole beastiary album music video is one long donkey kong run 3. The line "no telefone from gavriel is a reference to his song "zhe greazest pac man victory" 3:40 i think its i and j, but okease google it, in youtube there are buttons that let you go back 1 frame, instead of 5 seconds 3:55 i think the way aes describes the normal fill in with impossibilitys , as a conveluded way of saying he feels like he has no identity, has gotta be one of the smartest writings from him ever Like i think at least top 15 In amother song he says "my gang since is never the same twice" wich means he doesnt even have an allegiance 8:30 unappreciated line "we will call your name, im sure you will" Because his name is a randome aet of numbers and letters that changes forever, its basically impossible to call his name 10:25 telephone uncovered b the ouja means i think, that his telephone number is an uouja board/ the only way to reach him is to type in the number that the ouna said, double check it with the bathroom stall's in a closed down music store 14:08 also thia was the party i mentioned in my other coments "Coal on a conveyer belt" as a description on how oarions are treated, like you get there you fill the foemulas and just get treated as a number that gets worked on next, perfectly symbolised by "she out me into an oven" 15:15 to understand that you now need to take a break from listening to aesop rock and watch the 6 part mini (like 3 min) video series aesop rock did to promote the inpossible kid album before release i dont want to spoiler too much fun, but it is showing us the therapy sessions between him and izzo 17:25 my mother is a therapist and she disagrees with the doctor "sometimes especially for traumatic events thats the only/ best way for patients to talk about their experience its your job to find a way to understand them and level yourself" 20:40 and also the "absolutely" is him AK owleding even after having so much critique on the whole process in the 2. Part and 3m part he acknowledged that it's still a net positive To finish it off now you understand why I said it's the precessor to Kirby, (in album and chronical timeline) because in Kirby we have "15 years taking prescription then the shrink was "idk maybe get a kitten"
Eyyyy my dedication has been noticed Btw i changed my username to JanPan long ago, i just noticed that youtube showes my nae from 16 years ago haha. (Btw yes i somethimes spend as long writing these comments as the video duration haha) Anyway, if i may suggest another song that you may like to react: "Zero Dark Thirty" For this song i would recomend watching the music video aswell The art in the video is from alex, who also made the art in rings The reason i specify to recomend watchign with video, is that somethimes the videos tell a full on new story with little ques to notices, and with how layered aes is it can get overwhelming. For example the spirit world field guide music videos for "the gates" "sleeper car" and "coverals" are all connected and tell a seperate story that has nothing to do with the music and i recomend watching it after hearing the song (especially "the gates" the video has so many nuances On the other hand "Cycles to gehenna" has a music vide that fits extremly wellto the theme of the song and gives you hints about the lyrics Now that you listened to shrunk, i just gotta make a list ofmy favorite oneliners, that i actually started using in my normal speech: -"Telephone, uncovered by purveyors of the ouija" -"My in-case-of-emergency is in the daisies, chasing birds" -"A thousand shitty paintings wrapped around a wounded animal" -"I'm climbing up the stucco, let's get to the seppuku-uh-oh" (basically every time i go to an exam, i wait for the door to open, and then iwalk in to my place i mumble this to myself) -"I said, "That sounds like something that my enemy would say."Instead of playing off the chemistry" ( I mean yeah its edgy, but also not incorrect, like instead of shoving it in the face prove it with your actions and building chemistry) -"Look-I'm not good at this; I grew up in a noogie-fest You built your walls up high or said goodbye to all your Cooky-Puss" (This line just resonates so much with me, because i did also grow up as a middle child (noogie-fest) and the dynamic, especially at the dinner table was getting jabs from below (because parents protection) and above (because oldest = strongest) -"Every time my telephone buzzes I see images of hooded riders setting fire to hundreds." (I dont know if its jsut my generation, but i hate calling with a passion, i rather write messages for an hour then call 30 minutes, and especially when unknown numebrs call me, i do not accept them at all) -"Okay, agree to disagree as grown-ups from opposing clans Honoring the push and pull, I should've called the Scholomance" (before reading the explanation on genius i had 0 idea what any of these words mean, but i just really like how the words flow idk, every time i have a different opinion on someone where both people arent wrong (like best ice cream) i drop this) -"Oh well, preservation is a doozy"
Hey, algorithm brought me here. Wanted to add some things here about the first verse. :) His first name is literally an encryption algorithm. He's symbolically being literally cryptic about his identity. Using symbols. lol Last name is the family name. It's unintelligible and if you try to follow it, leads into harsh territory and an enemy encounter. John Doe and Bingo are common names used when someone wants to remain anonymous and protect their identity. Not good enough for Aes Address is just more obscuring. If there's a deeper implication there, I'm not getting it. CBGBs was the beating heart of punk music in New York from the 70s through the early 2000s. A lot of important bands got their start there. Unfortunately, it was torn down during the Bush era. Good luck contacting Aes. You need a spiritual connection and proof that you've been plugged into the culture for decades. Age and Social are just giving away the game. He's obscuring his identity behind cryptic puzzles so that if you want to know him, you have to prove you care enough to put in the work. He's guarding himself to be known is to be made vulnerable. Aes is an anti-capitalist (based), so that's how he relates to the idea of employment. We all work for the same 300 assholes at the top, so what does it matter who the goon is writing my checks? It shouldn't be seen as a part of my identity. I'm with him on this one, and I think he separates it structurally within the verse because he wants it to be seen as conceptually removed from the rest of the information given. I think the rest is pretty straight forward. Thanks for the video! o7
His “In case of emergency” is Kirby… in the daisies chasing birds. Great reaction again
I am so sorry he missed that

Ah, you won the coveted "me telling my screen to stfu award."
Endless inane rambling is bad enough, but the interruptions to say nothing are the nail.
