Dear Mr. Kamkwamba, I am indeed watching this, one day on the internet, 14 years after you said it. Thank you for your kind words, your story is truly inspirational!
Stories like this should be reminded to our youngsters all the time. This is one of the most inspiring TED talks I've ever seen. Hope this kid is doing better and that he's receiving this well earned and deserved education. Hats off!!!!!!!
I love how at the end, he was just standing there, looking around like he was still in disbelief that this happened to him. Just soaking it all in. It made me smile :)
I have a kid in my class who's uncle has made a school in kenya. I read this book in class, and am actually at the end of it, and I have one thing to say to William: you have inspired me to do my best at everything I can and to never give up. If you can do it, so can I. So can all of us.
im pretty sure you come here after the movie like me:) i respect this guy a lot so hard to live on his circumstances and we are not even happy with what we got when :s
Normally I'm very cynic, and my wife says I'm a sour old man... but honestly, this story really moved me.. it´s inspiring and makes me a better man, I hope it has the same effect on you...
This is the way for Africa, give the tools in books and education, let the locals find the solutions. I love this kid, truly an inspiration for the world.
awww so sad the way others live in suffering. In the usa, we say back in the old days , colonial day, mid century w.e. but those days are still going on in other countries now. Its so sad that in the poorest of countries they have to pay school fees and for uniforms while in the usa our public school is free. Of course, this man is a genius. U can hand those engineer books to me in English and I wouldn't understand. Hopefully he has helped his country, family and self much more than today
Every time I have a exam or any other struggle in my life that I need to overcome I watch this video. This man did so much with with such few resources. He truly is an inspiration.
I am grateful and thankful able to read the story of William Kamkwamba through his book. Thank you for telling people your story, William Kamkwamba. Thank you TED.
I also came here after the movie and it's kind of sad if you think about it, specially when I'm a Tedtalks addict because I found them the perfect place to learn English and learn about stuff. It's true that this video should have more views as somebody else says. Usually I do not post comments but this story deserves a long one. Mass media should promote more stories like this, very real and very useful and less of the glossy and gossip stuff
Here in 2020, wish more people were like this guy. Stop complaining about pieces of cloth of your face if you cannot build a fully functioning windmill for your family and town.
Just read his book. His story is amazing and motivating. When i have the money this summer i am going to donate 250+ because they'll double it over 250 because of a grant. They deserve it.
william YOU are more than Amazing! I want to be like you, make change in my country and help the poor people in Africa..That has always been my dream nd hopefully soon I will be able to make change:)
There's no competing. William is from a subsistence farm, which means they grow to eat and eat only what they grow or can trade locally for. There is no subsidies, no trade, no competing, no international grain markets on subsistence farms.
grofuss said: Oprah ... setting up a school for a select few children that will look good on her show ..OR, perhaps changing the lives of millions? In fact, she spent 10's of millions; her school serves 400 bright girls selected for leadership potential. The potential for South Africa is immeasurable! The African Leadership Academy that William K now attends was started last year and most likely inspired by Oprah's school. I do agree: William's inspiration might change the lives of millions.
I was thinking about his yesterday. I have been to Africa and Asia and seen some very poor people. They don't throw away anything. They re-use every little thing of plastic and metal and rope. My mother yesterday threw away a fruit bowl because it had a little chip out of it. To me, it looked better that way. It looked used and homely. Not like the production line bowl she brought to replace it. I wish we did things like the Africans in England. Everything is so disposable nowadays.

I almost got teared up when everyone stood up and started applauding🥹
The power of education can change an entire community. even if only one individual is educated....on another note, this video deserved more views.
