I grew up in the northern mountains of the state of Utah. We actually have most of these there. I have had scorpions in my shoes, had a cougar that would frequent our back yard weekly, had a black bear come in our tent at night, been chased by a bull moose, watched a moose ram a semi truck and walk away, got rattlesnakes all over the foothills of the mountains, lynx, badgers, a few rare sightings of wolverines. When you live around it, you generally learn to respect it and learn how to handle situations. Loved seeing your reactions!

As a native Arizonan, I can confirm that scorpions DO in fact make their way into our houses. One time I was woken up from being stung multiple times on my back by a scorpion that was IN MY BED! Arizona has plenty of dangerous wildlife, including; rattlesnakes, javelinas (wild boar), brown recluse spiders, coyotes, Gila monsters, and mountain lions (although most of these animals won't attack unless provoked.)

I'm in Nebraska and we have issues with rattle snakes and coyotes too. snakes really are a silent danger because by the time you hear that rattle its gonna be too late. coyotes were domesticated by the Native tribes and don't really do humans harm unless provoked or starving, they are opportunists

I feel like ticks should have made it onto this list. Bc of how sick you can get to after getting bit. Also they are more prolific than any of these animals. Unlike bears, black widows, and the like ticks can be found even in the rural places of America. You have to be close to those animals’ habitats to see them, but ticks could be found in a park if it is a certain part of the country like New Hampshire.

I used to work for a Vineyard company, my job was basically installing irrigations and would see them multiple times in a day creeping out of pipes as for some reason they enjoy dark humid areas. The same goes for houses, they creep their way in on cold places and could be very dangerous for toddlers. As for ticks, they are only a problem when there is a house pet as long as the pet is tended to properly and kept outside of the house it would be no problem. Black widows on the other hand, don't give a damnn, if your house is clean or not, it don't matter

Buffalo Wings first originated in BUFFALO, New York which is how they got the name Buffalo Wings! Of course these are Chicken Wings and in no way related to Bison/Buffalos!
Lewis, you look just like your Mum and she looks as if she could be your Sister!
I really like her. Bring her back. She already has a Fan Base who would Love to see more of her.
As far as the dangerous animals and/or spiders, snakes, etc; there are some that are more common to peoples homes/towns if the people have chosen to live in these more wooded, secluded areas but others that are common in less populated states and Most people who reside or visit these places are aware of the possible threat they represent and will be very cautious and aware of their surroundings. Then there are those people who foolishly attempt to get too close or to entice these Wild Animals without thinking. Unfortunately!
But in the case of say, wild Cougars, their lands have been so encroached upon by housing developments and roads for the convenience of man that they often wander onto property that was once part of their wilderness domain, with no fault of their own, and that is when, where and how tragedy can take place just by the mere presence of humans where there were none previously.
Can't blame these wild animals for doing what wild animals do; such as defending their territory, looking for food, raising their young, only to be interfered with by some human who thinks because he's built a home there he maintains dominance there. It's just silly and selfish to think that way.
Give these animals some space to roam and be free and steer clear of their known hunting grounds if you know what's good for you.
Anyway, being educated about the area you live, take precautions and always Be Aware!!

The 1st day I moved in, I saw about a 6' gator 100ydd from my new home. Bison used to be in every state. Now they're making a comeback thanks to conservation. @L3WG the reason alligators and crocodiles dont bite in those scenes is because they were stunned beforehand. If hit/smacked on the nose, they become stunned for a short while. The people putting hands or anything else were demonstrating this trick. The bites happen when they were not sufficiently stunned and recover faster.

Then there was the vinagarone which is a relative of the scorpion that exudes a major vinegar scent. And, no, Grizzly bears and plain old brown bears are a leetle different from each other. Out of all of these, the black widow spider is my absolutely least favorite spider. I know, the brown recluse is probably more dangerous, but widows look nasty. And your Mum is lovely.

Worst part, her 2 kids were getting off bus at 3:45, and usually she doesn't get home till 4:30 from work.
Long story short, she didn't feel that well that day, and went home about 3pm.
When drove up, she said, her whole front yard was red and grisley, she had 2 side pastures, she saw the horse and goats from a distance, at this time, she did Not think it was her dogs, in fact was afraid what ever did this might of killed her dogs too. Maybe a bear, which in Texas, they do come occasionally. She preceeded to go to her gate of her front yard, and opened it up. She saw the dead cats first, then the very deep slow growl, she froze. All she saw was two large lumps of red. She realized they were her once white pits. She slowly inched about 20 feet from them to the front door, ignoring the growl, she actually got the door open in one try, even though her hand was shaking. She went and got her 45. Went back to the front yard 15 feet away, blew her dogs heads in.
In our family no one tells her, we told you so. No one. She and her kids could of died horrible deaths that day. But a God thing said for her to go home before the bus got there. Something set the dogs off, maybe a cat smacked one of the dogs after getting too close? Who knows, in back of house is where she found the dead puppies and a broken fence the pitbulls got out of.
To say having good homes, loving, training will save you or a child, elderly you are very ignorant of the breed. The snap, they get blood -lust, and they like to kill. Texas we have pitbulls that owners bring after wild, very large hogs, that also can tear you up. Anyways. No one in my family has pitts, and I never let my kids go to houses that had pits.

@@RunningGrass-we7tm I am so sad to hear of your sister’s horrible experience! How absolutely terrified she must have been, and I’m glad the children didn’t get home before her. In this case I would have done the same thing she did, out of self defense and for the safety of the children.
I realize there are always things that can go awry, not just with the bully breeds. Some herding breeds and guarding breeds sometimes can snap. Unfortunately some (only some) is due to bad breeding practices. My personal opinion on is that the more aggressive individual dogs should be desexed so they can’t breed. In some cases (again, only some) people breed the most aggressive dogs and this can result in those genes being passed on and on. Breed one dog with aggressive genes to another dog with aggressive genes, and then those puppies to others with aggressive genes, and they are just looking for trouble. There are breeders who just don’t think also, who just breed for color, etc. I understand all this.
I’m saying all this, just to point out that it isn’t just a matter of breed alone. Yes, some breeds have the ability to kill , such as your sister’s dogs. Every pit Bull has that physical ability, as do the shepherd breeds, the setters, the herding breeds, and so many others. Even a chihuahua can go into a wild rage, but just aren’t capable of as much damage. Bottom line is every dog breed descended from wolves. While we have domesticated them, they still have natural instincts that can arise.
Again, I’m sorry for the trauma your sister and family have experienced, and for the loss of her other animals which I’m sure she cared very much for.

Not to belittle the suffering of your story but there's always anecdotal instances like this with animals and especially dogs. I've raised six pitties. Four from pups and two rescued from troubled homes. And only one from the rescues had an aggression issue that we were able to love out of him. But I can find you a horror story of every breed of domesticated canines. It's vastly from dogs that suffered some kind of trauma prior.

I guess to add to the stories about camping and bears - Once went camping in middle school for summer camp and one girl I had to share a tent with had never been outside the city before then and apparently hated how the outdoors smelled (so ridiculous). She absolutely hosed our tent down with one of those victoria's secret body spray perfume things - like enough to give us all headaches. We woke up the next morning to the outside of the tent being slimy and wet and one of the counselors showing us a video he had gotten of a black bear licking our tent. The black bears are why I use my garbage disposal. I put the scraps down it . Sometimes one comes down out of the mountains and gets in the garbage for an easy meal. The black bear can get about 350 pounds. That's not as bad as the grizzly but it can take you down. One got my sister's garbage can and walked upright carrying the can across the road. Here in Kentucky and farther south the black bears don't go into full hibernation in the winter. So you might see them in the winter. City people are the people that act like they're petting zoo animals.

And never get in-between a mother and her baby. A friend of mine and myself got stalked by a grizzly once. Another friend of mine was sleeping next to the camp fire and woke up with a black bear standing over him licking his face. Alaska was a fun place to grow up!

And to add to this, even with tape, you would never try and tackle an alligator that is in water. Alligators are extremely proficient swimmers and would buck you off in about a second in water.
Not to downplay their murderous efficacy on land though. They are extremely fast, even on land.

Scorpions in general are found in warm places and they like to hide under cover like a sleeping bag, tarp, under or inside your tent, in your shoes or boots, like spiders or snakes. It's always a good idea to sheke out your shoes or boots, or lift up a tarp with a stick to make sure nothing is underneath to bite or sting you. Usually a scorpion sting is about like a bee sting but people have allergies and some venom is more powerful than others. Scorpions have thermal vision and glow in UV light.
In the 80's, when I was a teenager, they re-introduced cougars to our area (Lee county, Mississippi) to control the coyotes and other critters that were over populating. A neighbor's goat was killed and then a neighbor's horse was attacked. One night I heard a woman screaming in the woods by my house. I ran outside with a big flashlight and yelled if someone needed help. I heard another scream and freaked out and went back in the house. I found out later if you hear a scream like that, it's trying to trick you into exposing yourself and it's dangerously close to you. One guy was jogging down a trail and was chased by a cougar but shot it.
Buffalo and bison are the same thing. Bison is the proper term. Buffalos are in Africa and Asia and look more like cows, like the Cape Buffalo or water buffalo. You can buy ground buffalo and buffalo steaks. They're extremely lean like deer meat. Tupelo, Mississippi, a nearby town, has the largest herd of buffalo east of the Mississippi river, raised at Tupelo Bufalo Park. You can feed some of them out of your hand, but some of them are extremely dangerous either mean or clumsy. The second largest herd in the east is on a ranch in Pennsylvania. Ted Turner has the largest private herd in Montana.
They've re-introduced the black bear to Mississippi, also. A lot of people have seen them in their neighborhoods and on their game cameras in the woods. They're very common in Tennessee in the Smoky Mountains. It gets dangerous when they lose their fear of humans and expect food, breaking into people's dumpsters, cars, and even people's homes.
Black widows have a neurotoxic venom like most venomous snakes in the US. it breaks down your nervous system so you're paralyzed and stop breathing. Brown recluse spiders have a hemotoxic venom, which breaks down your blood, causing it to congeal which ultimately keeps your from moving because your muscles can't get oxygen. Before that happens, you end up with gangrene and sepsis around the bite. A lot of people lose limbs to stop the spread of the infection and venom. The snakes and spiders, even some toads, found in Latin and South America, Africa, and Australia put our snakes and spiders to shame. :)
I've never seen a coral snake in person, just in zoos. The coral snake is extremely venomous but it's jaw doesn't open wide like a viper, it can only bite you on a finger or bare foot. Rattlesnakes and other vipers can bite you through your clothing or even leather boots or gloves. We've had copperhead snakes (a viper), brown recluse spiders, and black widows in our house, mostly in the garage where they're not disturbed. My air conditioner guy found a snake skin in my attic, but it was probably from a rat snake hunting for mice or squirrels. We've had water mocassins/cottonmouth vipers in the yard, looking for water. They're usually found in or around ponds, lakes, or streams. They're related to the rattlesnake and copperhead, being pit vipers. Wolf spiders are common, but they're completely harmless, eating insects.
Moose have derailed trains and walked off. When my son was deployed in Alaska, moose would come on to the base, eat some grass in the yard, take a nap, and then walk off base when it felt like it. They have a bull moose (breeding age male moose) come hang out as well as a mama moose and her kids and their kids. They don't mess with the moose and the moose don't mess with the soldiers. :) He never saw any grizzly bears, just a lot of caribou, elk, and moose.
When you come to America to rassle a gator, have fun with that. I'll be over there recording it for the Darwin Awards. :) Best thing to do if you know an alligator is nearby, get far away, quickly. :)

@@christinemathies7236 Yes, and the statistics on those bites are faulty. They lump about 20 different breeds into a "pit bull" category whereas stats for other breeds are just for their individual breeds, for example, all mastiffs are not lumped into one group for the analysis. I have a Dogo Argentino Staffordshire terrier mix and even though he is 105 pounds and looks more Dogo than Staffie, some would ignorantly label him a pit bull (I also have seen many, including a vet, label him American Bulldog). PS he is the biggest, neediest baby of all the dogs I have ever had.

First, I love your mom! She’s great!
Second, I once came face-to-face with a cougar about a quarter of a mile from my house when I lived out in the country. They are pretty common around here. I live in Washington state. Both bears and cougars are seen fairly often. The cougar I came face-to-face with was about 60 feet from me when it saw me and it hunkered down like it was ready to pounce. But it was sniffing the air and just waiting to see what I was and what I was going to do. I love the woods, I love nature, and I love animals and happen to have a good sense of animal and what they will do. So I stood still and didn’t blink an eye and pretended like I was a tree. I don’t think it fooled the cougar, but I was downwind from it, which means the wind was blowing toward me instead of toward it so it couldn’t smell me. After what seemed like forever, but was actually only a couple of minutes,I’m sure, it calmly stood up, turned and walked off into the forest and I just made as much noise as I could. I picked up a big stick and started swinging it around to look big and dangerous, and walked past where the cougar had been and went home. I often heard a cougar out in the woods, screaming not far from my front door at night. It sounded like a woman screaming, and the first time I heard it I thought some woman was being attacked by somebody or something. I called my neighbor up the road to make sure she was OK and she started laughing and told me not to worry, that it was just a cougar. So yes, cougars are very very common here. They just usually hide from people so most people don’t know how close they are to them. We don’t have many grizzly bears in this part of the country, but we do have black bears which are smaller and not as vicious. Love your videos, yes, please more of your mom.! 🙂
