    Finding out that Rob Halford is filling in for Black Sabbath is the equivalent of getting upgraded to first class with an empty seat next to you, and you get complimentary food and booze.

      Total agreement. I haven't heard Ozzy or any other metal musician disagree with Rob being called "Metal God" Rob Halford in his prime was untouchable.

    I think this is a FUCKING great version of Heaven and Hell! Hats off to Rob Halford for an excellent vocal performance of this great track. I wish Sabbath would have recorded a full length album with Halford!

    It's funny, Ozzy can in no way sing the Dio era Sabbath and I feel like Dio's voice is too much for the Ozzy era Sabbath, but Halford is the perfect the medium. He absolutely KILLS on this and the Ozzy era stuff from this show. Unbelievably great.

      He hits all the notes, but he hasn't got anywhere near the quality and depth of voice that Dio had.

      Pedro Reinaldo no one here is saying he's going higher than Dio (of course, this live version is played here, in the original key, same as studio. How can he go higher?). The difference stays in the resonance.

      This is from Rolling Stone magazine.
      In the summer of 1992 Ozzy Osbourne was a mere 43 years old and his new album No More Tears was a huge hit, so it was a pretty big shock to his fans when he announced a farewell tour, claiming he wanted to spend more time with his family. A cynic might suggest that the No More Tours outing was a transparent ploy to sell more tickets cooked up by a certain wife/manager, but it certainly worked. Tickets sold like crazy all over the world.
      Where Does Black Sabbath Rank on our 100 Greatest Artists List?
      The tour was slated to wrap up November 15th at the Pacific Ampitheater in Costa Mesa, California. Ozzy hadn't played with Black Sabbath since a brief set at Live Aid in 1985, but he invited them to open up the show and then play a few songs with him at the end of the night, effectively bringing his career full circle. The idea didn't sit too well with Ronnie James Dio, who had spent the year touring with Sabbath in support of their new album Dehumanizer.
      Dio flat out refused to open up for the former lead singer of his band and then watch in the wings as they reunited at the end of the night. The guys in Sabbath were determined to go on with the gig, so they recruited Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford to front them for the night. Here's amateur footage of the complete show. Halford does a great job considering he had to learn an hour-long set of songs he'd never done before.
      Needless to say, Ozzy was back on the road just three years later when he launched the Retirement Sucks Tour. By that point, Black Sabbath were back playing clubs with singer Tony Martin at the helm. The group got back with Ozzy a couple years after that, though he continued to balance the group with his solo career. Before a show in New Jersey in the summer of 2004, Ozzy got sick and Rob Halford once again took over as singer. He flubbed the lyrics to "Paranoid" and many in the crowd were quite upset about getting denied Ozzy at Ozzfest, but they did get to witness yet another chapter in the endless soap opera of Black Sabbath.

      It wasn't quite a marketing ploy on the No More Tours Tour. Ozzy put in his book that he had been told that he had no medical problems at the time so he decided to retire after recording and touring non-stop for 25 years, he also pointed out that he was buying all these houses and never got to actually enjoy them because of the constant writing and touring. Then while in retirement, Ozzy had gotten rather bored and remembered what happened to his father when he took an early retirement (his father finished his garden and then died of Cancer to the Bowel amoung other things), and Ozzy started seeing that all his savings were draining because any royalties he owed to anyone was coming out of his savings because he wasn't making any new money. In fact, Ozzy was so bored that he asked Sharon to book him some festival dates. So Sharon called up Lollapalloza (run by notorious dickhead and talent-less singer Perry Farrell) and Farrell literally laughed and said "Ozzy Osbourne?! He's a f*ckin dinosaur." and after numerous failed attempts to get Ozzy a festival slot, she and Ozzy said fuck it and created Ozzfest, Ozzy had said he wanted to call it Beerfest. And with that, he released "Ozzmosis" and embarked on the "Retirement Sucks Tour." After the first few Ozzfests were a success, Sharon mentioned to Ozzy that Black Sabbath should headline Ozzfest 1998, Ozzy looked at her and said "you're joking right? Tony is the only one left and their last one (Forbidden) didn't even chart." "No Ozzy, the original Sabbath, back together after 18 years." It took some doing but they managed, though it was maybe a reunion for all of two weeks because Bill had a heart attack so Mike Bordin filled in for him. Then for Ozzfest 1999, Bill had more heart problems so Vinny Appice filled in on their European leg of the tour, which was said to have offended Bill, Vinny had also been kept on reserve in case Bill couldn't do certain nights (Tony's doing because he didn't want the same thing to happen to Bill that happened with AJ Pero).

    For me, I am a heavy metal lover, I know the history of heavy metal and this fantastic Band, Black Sabbath and Rob Halford for me was one of the great metal vocalists, next to Ronnie James Dio and Ian Gillian, this generation was very special ... of course in the 80's' we still had several other names Erick Adams, Michael Kiske, Michael Viscera, among others great, plus see Rob Singing with Sabbath, heaven the hell, was an unbelievable!!! thing in my time there for the years 1992, 93, 94, that to watch a metal clip we had to wait the Gastão in the metal fury, in the extinct MTV Brazil, strong hug for you guys!

  • @OzanRocks
    @OzanRocks 11 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    It's not because Ozzy got sick. It's because of Dio left the band in 1992 because of they (Tony Iommi/Geezer Butler) wanted to be supporter band of Ozzy and make a duet with Ozzy. They needed to find a singer urgently and they called Halford.

    • @Rollotomassi099
      @Rollotomassi099 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was at this show... It was supposedly Ozzys farewell tour and last show. Dio and Ozzy never got along so Dio decided he wouldnt play and also it coincided with the end of Dio's contractual obligation to the band for the Dehumanizer album and tour. Also Tony Iommi was in Jail for non payment of alimony, so Ozzy had to bail him out, so he wouldn't miss the last 2 shows. Sepultura opened the show hot off their Arise album and tour and blew everyone away.

    Halford did a favor because the 2nd best singer was sick. Could RJD do Priest? Hell no

      Probably he would've pulled it off, and it would've been one hell of a show (not unlike this one!)
      Priest's songs tend to be faster and more complicated, but Dio in the 90's could have done them all. Also, later Priest repertoire really sounds like faster Deep Purple or Rainbow... The song Ram It Down is basically DP on steroids, and A Touch of Evil even has Don Airey on keys and just sounds like a Rainbow number. It would have been a dream to hear it sung by RJD.... 🙈

      @@andreamartelloni9067 Painkiller sounds nothing like DP or Rainbow. I just can’t imagine Dio pulling some of the songs on painkiller off.
