Excellent Margaret thank you, I did get the error message with path to the gedcom file but even me who has limited experience realised my family tree gedcom file name had an apostrophe in there after my name eg Marshall's family tree, I just renamed it family tree and it worked, I don't even know if my action solved it but who's cares, something that sounded to technical to me was infact made easy by yourself, Thanks again.
EXCELLENT! Very thorough and easy to follow. I was able to create my personal xlsx file on the first try. Now, I want to add "Arrival" for the primary persons. Looks like there are 2 places in the script to make a change - I'm struggling with those.
Agree with previous comment. Subscribed to your newsletter but when I try to download the script it is no longer available. Very frustrating to have gone through all the other steps for nothing. Would have been wonderful to create a spreadsheet from my bed on file. Back to square one.
How do you access your python script you downloaded? It is not in the download folder. I did a search on all my drives as well. It’s located at usr/local/lib/python3.10…
Sorry, I forget to put it into the description. The link is there now. And here too: www.dataminingdna.com/how-to-convert-a-gedcom-file-to-spreadsheet-python-colab/
This is brilliant thank you. Gedcom has many more columns, so I was wondering how to get every piece of data in the gedcom onto the excel spreadsheets? For example, this generates only informaiton about the individual people, but no information about families in general. So I was wondering how to get a table or multiple tables if needed that show all the data that is stored in the gedcom file?
Are you able to grab the relationship as well with this method? Another column that says "third great grandmother" and that type of thing? This is awesome btw! Thank you!
I subscribed to your newsletter via the link in the companion article....no script. Why don't you just add a direct link to the script or add the text of the script directly where we can copy/paste. A little frustrating to go through all of the steps and get hung up on that step. Appreciate the work, but several people have already cited the same issue, so why not fix for all.
I had to write out the script and then run it. I had a couple of minor mistakes to correct but now I'm stuck. It's failing to write to the spreadsheet as it's saying first_name is not defined. I updated to 'first' and it then failed on last_name for same reason. I have triple-checked the script and I have it exactly. Why is this failing?
Interesting... Subscribed, but not received confirmation email. Then I have to wait for the script.. Not sure if the script will be available (based on previous comments)
Very educational. But the file only contains the birth place. I would like the full address information, e.g. also the country etc. How can I achieve that?
Have an issue when I go to execute the script. Done it twice from scratch. I did use python-gedcom-2 instead if the one you suggested. Getting an error that states: Interrupt execution (Ctrl +M I) cell executed since last change Previous execution e ended unsuccessfully.
good video but useless without the python scrip you provide. i tried subscribing 3 days ago and never received anything. Also subscribed again today so maybe that will work.
Many thanks for the excellent instructive video and I have now successfully imported my .ged file into Excel; mind you it would have been a lot quicker if I had followed your instructions.
@@donames Hello, on the script download page, there is a link that takes me to Microsoft One Drive, but it does not work. It's buggy... The page resets every two seconds. Did this work for you or did you receive the script by email?
Ah, right. I think the easiest thing to do is to click on the subscribe option in step one of the linked article and you will be taken to the download link. Don't worry, you won't get the newsletter twice!
That was helpful and fun, my first time with Python. Now I'm going to play around the row order in sheets. Thanks!
What a great and very helpful video, thank you!

Worked perfectly as advertised. Thank you so much.
Thank you! That was awesome. I've been trying to learn Python, so this helps me struggle a little less!

This worked fantastically! Thank you!! The hardest part was making that python code download LOL
Brilliant! Thank you very much
I subscribed to receive the script file but I haven't received anything
Many thanks for this. A really useful exercise.
Thank You!
great tutorial! thanks
When I open the python_gedcom-1.0.0-py2.py3-none-any in Notepad it looks like wingdings. What am I doing wrong?
Fantastic! Many thanks
This worked very, very well. The only errors I encountered were because I wasn't paying attention. Thank you
I got to the part where the print outputs the names but no XLSX file appears after running it

Figured it out - indenting improperly is killer.
Hello there. I have subscribed to receive the script file but I haven't received anything yet. Is it still available?
How long does it take for the email to come through with the script? I've been waiting a while and It's not in junk folder.

I had some issues with that package so I don't use it.

Sorry, but I have ADHD, It's been like 7 minutes and I'm struggling to pay attention, when does the actual tutorial start?
Very disappointed to get the response "This item may have been deleted..." when trying to download the script! 🤕
`May have been a temporary glitch with Gumroad as there have been other downloads since. Try again?
