As a paralyzed person that spends my entire life in a room alone I have been begging for a tiny Johnny 5 to be my friend please make a tiny one with artificial intelligence one day
I live in a small town but we had a #5 come to our school in I think ‘89. Iirc, one person handled the overal robot’s movements, another the arms/etc, another the voice. It was the coolest assembly ever.
Apache Junction Library in AZ has a life size Johnny 5 that my kids and I were super excited to meet! These were very cool to see! Thank you for sharing.
I am almost finished my 1:1 Johnny 5 bust. I set him aside to finish wiring and program so I could work on my next book and unfortunately someone's tail 'helped' him do a face plant. So, he needs repairs. Seeing those scale models makes me want to print 1 and finish my bust. I love the Eagle, I bet the APC shuttle from Space Above and Beyond was heavily influenced by the Eagle. (and probably Halo's Pelican in turn) My late cousin got me into scifi with his Eagle and other models. Love to see that!
9:00 I've only watched two or three episodes of "Space 1999," and it felt like a typical 70s sci-fi TV show-not very impressive. However, I do agree that the Eagle and its related ships were quite intriguing. They seemed to be the most practical and plausible real-life spacecraft concepts, similar to the landers in "2001: A Space Odyssey."
Johnny 5 has to be my all time favorite character ever since I first saw short circuit as a kid in the early to mid 90s. I watched it so much I wore out the tape haha. I have always wanted one and finally stumbled across these johnny 5 groups and found files and ended up getting a 3d printer and printing my own. No where close to the detail that Titan Ross and the other creators of the files and prints can do, bit I was finally able to have my own.😊
Truly amazing to see all these models. That said the cockpit design of the Eagle has always bothered me because the window arrangement seems optimized to prevent the pilot from seeing outside. Other famous movie spaceships like the Tie Fighter, and even the Millennium Falcon, seem to suffer from massive blindspots as well. Would love to see a video about that aspect of movie spaceships either from a how they were designed/behind the scenes standpoint or perhaps some sort of comedy parody.
The German movie title even was "Nummer 5 lebt!" (Number 5 lives (or is alive, same wording here)) instead of the direct translation "Kurzschluss" (shortcut). And the robot was really just named "Nummer 5" (number 5). Loved this movie as a kid a lot.
Just saw the Johnny 5 prop on display at Sony Pictures Studio in their display room. I could have spent hours in there. Wish I could post the picture of Johnny here
I think we just have to wait another 10yrs for a "real" version of this robot. Love that movies can inspire people to make dreams / ideas come more realistic and even proving it can be done. Thanks for taking the effort to all in the video and such. 👊🏼🫂❤️
The Ultra Probe sailing through space to the strains of Adagio in G Minor with Dr Helena Russel's narration was burned into my mind from the first time I saw it. Haunting episode. Must build one someday. 🙂
Titan is one of the nicest guys you can ever talk to. So sad to see he is discontinuing J5 as he brought him back to life in an amazing miniature package . But staying in touch to see what else he comes up with a really great guy you should interview him.

@emerje0 nothing at all exists from any big corporation, everything available at this point in time is all fan made and will probably stay that way for years, unfortunately short circuit apparently does not have a big enough fan base for big companies to pick up on it
@@titanwross Yeah, that is unfortunate and your prices are more than reasonable for the work you're doing. But when I see some extremely obscure movie licenses getting figures I feel like Short Circuit should be more a standout, there's nothing else like it in stores. Maybe in 2026...

This movies was always amazed me. I knew it was a puppet robot as a child but I just wanted it. I want to know the ins and outs of this robot. It really was an Amazing piece of art and animatronics. I would like to know what they did with the toy version of Johnny 5 in the 2nd movie.
Hey Adam All the way from South Africa, I just want to say that I have always loved watching Mythbusters, ever since i was a kid watching the series with my dad on tv, Now Tested is my new favorite YT channel, watching you talk about the series and build stuff. You are a great person doing amazing stuff, thank you for everything you do and have done, keep up the amazing work.
Oh, when I watched the videos about the convention, I assumed all the Johnny's were made by different people and were just clumped together by the event admins.
Model building is fun- and delicate.. it really can help with inspiring engineer-minded understanding of simplicity and complexity- which then helps the manufacturer. Duh- I’m tots stating the obvious for all the senior builders..
As someone with a grand amount of tools in one mancave, What are the chances Adam Savage knows anything about "Left handed" tools? I'm having a major problem as I'm a left handed hobbiest maker, and I can only find "regular" digital calipers plentiful in the range of $10-$45 for generic brands, but then when searching specifically for "Left Handed" digital calipers, they spike up to $130-$230 and I cant spare the money for a caliper that expensive for a tool normally so cheap just to avoid having to read numbers upside down... most people would suggest just using the right hand however as a lefty, it's difficult to hold properly on my non-dominant hand... just try asking a dominantly right handed person to hand-write a word with their left.

Johnny 5's been having a bit of a comeback lately.
I saw the first movie in theaters when I was a little guy! Been addicted ever since. This would be a dream come true for me.
The eyes being those cool spiral shutter things was a nice touch
I love Short Circuit. Johnny Five is such a great character. I always wanted one of those mini Johnny Fives.
I'd never cried harder than before I saw J5 getting beat in the sequel.. trauma-bonding!
Even now, as a 42 year old man, I cry when I see Johnny 5 get beat up.
The tears were real, even to this day as a "functional adult" I remember that scene with dread..

No there’s only three main builders out there. Titan Ross, Shaun Bastian, and myself (Morgan Leavitt, Macabre custom builds)
