Clara's Dream: A Ukrainian Folk Ballet

Canada's Ukrainian Shumka Dancers: Virsky - The Ukrainian State Folk Dance Company and The Kyiv Ballet join forces for the world premier of Clara's Dream: A Ukrainian Folk Ballet. In celebration of Ukrainian Christmas, Clara's Dream brings this Canadian-Ukrainian artistic collaboration to the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium which takes place on Friday Jan. 11 and Saturday Jan. 12, 2013.

A Slavic Canadian disgrace. I have seen the real Slavic Clara's dream performances (performed in various Slavic countries) where the women's colorful dresses flow and swirl, not the men's uniforms. Canada is maybe too afraid to show the men in traditional soldier's uniform I suppose. It really takes away from the men's dancing when you can't distinguish their legs (soldier's dance) from their "skirts". This is maybe Canada's problem... we spend so much effort trying to be "multi-cultural" yet uniform (sex and race) that Canada has NO cultural identity anymore. The dancers did a great job. It's a shame their outfits don't reflect the same cultural pride.

You have your opinion but I think it is impressive and artistic. Canada would benefit from more of this. I like the traditional costume of the dancers. Here people have their own take on the performance!
