French butter tends to be made and preserved through culturing with bacteria, English butter (like most other butters) tends to be made and preserved through salting (even unsalted butter, which just has less salt due to our more modern industrial processes). The bacterial process requires more attention during manufacture, which is what you pay for.

TH-camr Cupcake Jemma uses the expensive butter in one of her videos. She says it is French butter, which is better as it has a lower water content? She has a cupcake shop in Soho, London.
Start of the video: "3x the cost"
End of the video: "3,5x the cost"
Thumbnail: "4x the cost"
Behind the scenes: 5x the cost
Paella might be a good one to try. Traditional paella used saffron which is p pricey and a variety of meats but I can imagine it being easy to make a cheaper one using normal rice and cheaper spices.
When you order macaroni in Italy, it just means tube pasta so penne is a macaroni.
Macaroni is a type of pasta, penne is also a type of pasta. Don't make things up if you don't know what you're talking about.
Cheap Vs. Steep French Toast. Always love the videos
As an American, I've just realized we pay way too much for bread...
40p is dirt cheap though. If you want a good bread that's not been rushed and is no packed with calcium propionate you really have to spend around £1.50
David Valtik 40p is the cheapest bread you can buy but it’s really discount bread, it’s not bad toasted but for a good loaf it’s around £1 everywhere other than Aldi
Love this idea!! Good way to put the afternoon in when your stuck at home with a 5 month xxx
With ingredients getting harder to come by in the markets since "the virus" you should make a "survivalist" easy to do recipes with only ingredients in your cupboards...
more of those barry, it was absolutely fantastic! can't wait for more x
Should of got same cheeses you can’t compare plain cheese and one that’s smoked ,that’s nothing to do with price ,that’s just 2 different products !!
Wookey Hole cheese is great, my dad lives down the road from there in Wells. But then nothing beats genuine Cheddar cheese, or traditional scrumpy/cider from the West Country especially from Cheddar. 1 of my favorite cheeses from the West Country has to be Applewood smoked cheddar
Hey Barry, great idea for a new series; cake decoration series!
More things like the golden snitch cake or burger cake, turn it into a series.
Adam Taylor great idea!! Yes please!
Probably a Mrs Barry series that, I know she'll like to do it if she can do it
@@mrbarrylewis I guess if your wife does it then that makes you Mr Becky
Only just found your channel, new favourite after watching this video! Brilliant!
I’m laughing at prices!! Once I did the conversion I realized the your “expensive” ingredients are about on par or some are even cheaper than budget brands here in Nova Scotia Canada!!! Like WTF that’s not fair at all 🙁
ps: IMO using the smoked cheese was kinda cheating, same with the rye bread... totally different flavour profiles between the cheap/steep so not that accurate comparison... again just IMO
I'm pretty sure you're making more money though so in the end it is fair.
@@sonjapersch6074 Making slightly more money doesn't equal the 3.5x increase in price between the cheap and steep in this episode. Nova Scotia minimum wage is only a few dollars more than UK.
They both look good! And they’re suitable for Lenten observances on Friday! It will be interesting to see with the kids think! We have the German market in the US as well? They like the budget one! Have you ever tried the boxed ones with the powdered stuff anything is better than that!
9:45 this is the sort of marriage goals I aspire to have with my future wife..
super excited for this. hope there's more coming in the series
Yes this is quite a regular series now, just need to know what people would like to see next up for future ones
@@mrbarrylewis you should do cheesecake
Cannot believe it wasn't referred to as "Mac & Cheap" at all.
French butter tends to be made and preserved through culturing with bacteria, English butter (like most other butters) tends to be made and preserved through salting (even unsalted butter, which just has less salt due to our more modern industrial processes). The bacterial process requires more attention during manufacture, which is what you pay for.
I've never seen anyone add those pieces of bread to a mac and cheese before, I'm so confused
Same. I was highly confused and still am, kind of. I've seen people add buttered bread crumbs, which is what I do with baked mac and cheese, but never like croutons on top.
Yeah I thought the same! I thought maybe it’s a British thing 🤷🏼♂️
@@DeanB I am British! Its not that.
@@madgirllolly Bazza is just whackattack
I’m British and I’ve never done this with the bread and I’ve never seen it before
Mmm this looks lovely and never had it before so I'm stood in the kitchen waiting for it to bake
Cheep vs. Steep Sheppard's Pie.
Was going to suggest that.
Your family are so funny, they always make me smile x
Barry: important announcement stop everything
Me: (stops living)
I was surprised at the difference in butter, actually. I normally just use Land O' Lakes (especially for baking) but I tried Kerry's after seeing Chef John use it. It's a world of difference just spread on toast.
When I'm trying to cook, it's more like *"BLEEP!"*
Literally why are you not at 100K subs yet? you are great! i love your uploads!. Keep up the amazing work!

The italian in me died when he said "parmejean" and "pani rigatta"
That really annoys me - Americans seem to think that the word 'Parmesan' is, for some reason, pronounced 'Parmezhan'. Why? I have never heard an Italian pronounce it that way, ever. Maybe Americans think that the word 'Parmigiano' is interchangeable with 'Parmesan'. One or the other, but 'Parmezhan' is utterly wrong.
@@brianartillery The british way of pronouncing it is also incorrect.
I also die when italians speak english. See how that isn't a cool thing to say?

I don't know why but I flipping love this series
