    An outstanding video! Don't let that video get away. This is a piece of recorded history. You can be our on the scene reporter. A lot of recovery for those people at a big cost, I"m sure. Excellent job. Keep the camera rolling!

    That's where my roots and my family are. The river rises frequently.2018 was bad enough. but 1997 had a higher crest. The thing I love most about that river town is the way community comes together in times like that,

    Thanks for posting this Brian.Having lived in that area for some time years ago I see lots of familiar places and buildings in your video.The flood of 1997 did a lot of damage and people moved out afterwards.I don't think the town ever fully recovered since then.This flooding will only add insult to injury.Sad to see.

    Good video, Brian. A little different than what you normally do, but considering how bad the flood is, you did great. One thing that struck me when we went to look at the 1997 flood was how quiet it was. No regular background sounds. Just silence.

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I worked for the health department when the 1997 flood hit. We got a lot of requests to do water sampling on private wells that had gotten submerged and we had to inspect a lot of rental properties. The 97 flood was about 6 feet higher. I'm trying to think why it was quieter. Maybe it took people longer to return or something. Thanks for watching Jim!

      I remember when they built that school and I always thought it was a cool idea. As soon as the flood hit, I told Jackie that I have to see that school and film it. I had to park a little ways away and walk across a swampy field to film it because the roads were all blocked. I got my feet wet. Lol

    Hi Jaw Tooth, Great video. Thanks for doing that. My brother loves in New Richmond. I didn't see his house, but I know it is wet. :-( At 12:48 was that St. Rose Catholic church? St. Rose has a marker painted on the back of the building. On the marker they marked the river level and the year for the big floods including the 1937 flood where the river hit 80 feet!

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is the St. Rose church. If you freeze the video at 12:28 you can see a small sign that says "St. Rose Church Celebrating 150 Years". You can see part of the sign of Lumber Street also which is the short alley off Riverside Drive/52. I am glad you like the video and thanks for watching!

    I saw the band, Foghat, at Annie's on Kellogg Ave, the night before the river crested in '97. The following day, the whole establishment was completely under water. Normally they would have removed the electronics & memorabilia from the place before becoming inundated with flood water, but back then it came up so quickly that they lost just about everything. Foghat did put on an awesome show. All original members of the band, though they had aged a little & some had packed on a few pounds since I had last seen them in 1974. Guess I have too. I also remember pictures of Kayakers paddling around the old Riverfront Coliseum in the paper. My sympathy to those who were affected by the flooding. The Cincinnati area is home to many good folks. Take care.

    There are a couple of homeowners that had the right idea when their houses were built. They have a high foundation to prevent flood damage to their homes. This video also reminds me of the flooding that took place here in Maine earlier this year. In downtown Augusta, the Kennebec River ran its banks due to ice jams. The flood stage in this case was 12 feet, but the river rose to 16 feet. People who had their cars parked along the banks of the river found their cars submerged within minutes.

    Thanks for sharing this great video. Just wondering once the river crests and begins to receed how long does that usually take? Days or week or more? Are there any strange unusual items ever found in the debris piles?

    • @JawTooth

    Me and my brother where part of a red cross team that got sent down the road to moscow ohio the same time as another crew was sent to new Richmond and this was probably the worst flood iv seen in my life but then again I'm only 16

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome that you were part of Red Cross! There was a bigger flood in 1997. Back then I worked for the county health department and I was Zone 4 Officer for Clermont County Races. For the 97 flood I had to work overtime at the communications center answering calls and I did water sampling and inspections on private water wells in the flood zone. Stay with the Red Cross and maybe you could consider being a licensed amateur radio operator. Just a suggestion. You might enjoy it. At your age you could become a cadet at the local fire department also. If you want some excitement.
