      Britain's relevance today internationally is through its cultural significance. That's thanks to its writers of books, films and TV (overwhelming middle class) and musicians (middle class except for Northerners).

      If Britain has any relevance internationally in 2024, it's because of its cultural contribution to the world.
      It's the middle class that produces the writers of novels, TV and film.

    British working class culture can’t be destroyed before the next general election….
    If I were a Labour back bencher, I’d already be looking for a half decent job outside politics… Because by backing Starmer’s treasonous policies so obsequiously, they have destroyed any chance they may have had of an ongoing and fruitful Westminster career, and no one in the public eye will want to be associated with them in future…
    Working Class Britain has a long and very detailed collective memory…

      They don't live it, they don't see it, they live in a cushioned, protected environment. Many have been to private schools, most went on to university where, naturally, they involved in a variety of causes, the environment, race politics and more recently, the war between Hamas and Israel. They don't understand critical thinking or anything, nothing like that, but they know how to chant slogans repeatedly, they know how to participate in minor unrest, they can do self righteous anger, and in a few years time they'll be working in the highly curated media, or have some other career, making money and living out their comfortable middle class lives. No doubt they'll be happy to indulge in a bit of virtue signalling when the need arises. They add such value and enrichment to society.

    • @shylinh5939
      @shylinh5939 5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@martynblackburn9632 You have to be clearer regarding what 'offends'. There are those who seek to be offended in order to suppress the expression of ideas they disagree with. I assume the bigotry you are referring to is very narrow, and relates to things that are offensive and where the intention is to offend. But what is now described as offensive has expanded considerably. If someone 'feels' offended, then the attitude or words are de facto offensive.
      Some cannot tolerate feeling offended, it is in itself offensive, and will immediately resort to assertions of bigotry; another word and concept that is increasingly ceasing to have meaning. It's a far easier option than having a reasoned discussion or argument, something they might expose themselves as being poorly equipped to do
      It is irrefutable that in the wider sense, claiming something is offensive is frequently little more than a tactic intended to shut people down, shut discussion and analysis down and essentially remove any credibility from what is being proposed. That isn't fantasy, it is a reality and challenging or drawing attention to this reality is an example of telling something like it is.

      @joannaennis7866 I'm not criticising her, study is universal. It should also be lifelong, enabling maturity to clarify your logic. She remains her own woman. So do I. I took great delight I my title of The Standup historian, delivering the difficult concepts of history laced with the humour of my background. I never have lost my accent, deliberately, so that I always know my principles and logic. This lady seems not to fit either camp and seems to be bending over backwards towards her roots.

    I truly wish awful sounding accents were being erased, but if anything they seem to be given more and more prominence. When I was growing up with very rare exceptions like "Alf Garnett" one generally heard received pronunciation, which was much more pleasant to listen to.

    • @shylinh5939
      @shylinh5939 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      There are an enormous range of accents and localised inflections in the UK, any move to eradicate or minimise them, would be an attack on something culturally valuable. Accents are an intrinsic part of cultural identity, and a means of identification. Virtually anyone can develop RP speech, but not everyone can do the same with regional accents they didn't grow up hearing and speaking.
