    I am trying to pass midi clock through the PC4 and dosnt seem to be working. Is the possible? midi clock going into the input and passing the midi clock through to the output?

    • @jamesorvis_mixhackers
      @jamesorvis_mixhackers  ปีที่แล้ว

      I need to investigate as I dont use it to pass midi through. But my guess is no it wont work, you need a 'midi thru' output. Unless the out works as midi through and out at the same time? I will look into it, if it doesn't, dont worry, you could get a midi box like the Kenton stuff, I recently got the Kenton merge 4 so I could copy and distribute signals, I think that would be the right fix for you? Or something similar?

    • @blogic12

      @@jamesorvis_mixhackers i picked up a Merger V2 2x2 MIDI Merger to merge a midi clock signal with the PC4 's output. A little pricy for such a basic function that i feel like could have been a simple thing to have in the PC4 firmware... but it works!

    I have 2 AS1s and they need an external device to get under the hood.
    I am ordering the Faderfox EC4 which gives me 2 rows of 8 for each AS1.
    Page over and I have 16 per unit, that's quite the flexibility.
    I will never have to tether another synth to a PC again just because it lacks knobs. Most exciting is the Blofeld, an amazing synth let down by lack of knobs.
    Nord 3P can benefit too but most rewarding is being able to patch change without having to hover over said synth.
    These devices maybe pricey, but well worth it in the end. I have been searching for a solution locally and only the MIDI Fighter is available, has no screen, no din in or out and costs around the same.
    I managed to get 1 from Thomann cheap, + 3 years warranty so it's a no brainer for me.

    • @jamesorvis_mixhackers
      @jamesorvis_mixhackers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You absolutely could do that and have even more control. Personally for me it’s overkill, just two performance macros per track adds so much to my set without been overwhelming. PC12 looks brilliant though but takes up more space. Good use case would be to use a PC12 to control multiple machines

    I use the Faderfox Ec4 (the one with encoders). It's great with the Typhon Macros as you can build up then push the button to return to the Min value. Saves having to twist it all the way back.

    2 questions:
    can you record the modulations you build with the Faderfox into the Syntakt sequencer?
    there seems to be an option to modulate parameters for ALL the tracks and machines, can you decide which parameters are affected on all tracks or is it default?

    • @jamesorvis_mixhackers
      @jamesorvis_mixhackers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. Haven’t tried that yet and I have a sneaky feeling mod and breath can’t be trig locked but I will check :) you could very well do that if you map individual parameters instead of the performance macros.
      2. I hardly use All parameters option, it’s unfortunately not adjustable, that would be an amazing little performance hack. I would definitely use it to open up reverb and delay time

    • @fumarolas
      @fumarolas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesorvis_mixhackers coolio! About mod and breath: my sneaky feeling too (at least that was sadly the case on the Digitone, it won't record them). But as you say, better focus and be creative with what's there and there's so much on this unit.
      And yes, mapping the same Faderfox or Twister knob to many parameters could be a sick bunch of macros. Can't wait to get my own Syntakt. Thanks so much!!!

    • @jamesorvis_mixhackers
      @jamesorvis_mixhackers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fumarolas I almost went down the one knob to control all parameter route like how I do it on Octatrack. But I think there’s a lot to be explored when having access to multiple sound scaling capabilities. May do a video soon though testing the one knob method. I just had a cool idea, you could have 4-5 one knob macros like this because there’s mod, breath, velocity etc so you could have 4 or so really good macros that control multiple things each.

      @fumarolas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Exceptional video & track, thanks for sharing your knowledge. Question for you: I’ve seen some complaints online about the PC4’s 7bit resolution, suggesting that using it for things like filter cutoff could cause stepping because of less granular values (vs the 14bit resolution of say the EC4), but I didn’t hear anything like that with the assignments you had - did you come across any similar concerns? I was hesitant to grab a PC4/12 instead looking at the EC4, but obviously the PC series wins the day on sheer number of knobs so it would be preferable provided the resolution is not an (audible) issue. Appreciate any thoughts you have on this & look forward to checking out your other videos, cheers.

    • @jamesorvis_mixhackers
      @jamesorvis_mixhackers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey sorry for the late reply! I haven't noticed, but maybe thats because im used to digital controllers and Ableton from performances starting over a decade ago, maybe im just used to the stepping now. Im sure there probably is but nothing to put me off using it so far. I think the PC range is definitely more suited for Syntakt because of the definitive stop and start of the knobs and how the mod depth amounts are global, if the Syntakt reset the knobs every time you changed the pattern then the EC4 would be a good shout. Thats how I look at it, if the piece of gear resets values then endless is a good option, if the values stay constant and global then classic fixed knobs are the better option as you will always know where the depth amounts are set during a live performance.

      @@jamesorvis_mixhackers I finally figured it out somewhat. Issue I had was I forgot to set up the midi receive in on the Syntakt from usb to Midi or Midi+USB. I did notice Elektron l’s cc mappings are a bit different than standard ones so that is something I need to look into a bit.

    • @jamesorvis_mixhackers
      @jamesorvis_mixhackers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JustinUrban1 Mappings are similar to other machines but the CC numbers correspond to specific things in the syntakt, it’s best to refer to the manual, at the end there is a midi cc appendix. It lists all the category’s, parameters and relevant cc number. The other thing to consider is midi channel, so all tracks will share the same cc number for, say, the filter, but midi channel refers to which track the message will be sent to. As an example, track 1 is midi channel 1, track 2 is midi channel 2 and so on.

    • @JustinUrban1
      @JustinUrban1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesorvis_mixhackers I did get the channels worked out. Now it’s just the cc mapping per channel. I’ll have to look at the manual again. I looked at the little booklet that can with this unit, but am not sure if that’s the complete manual. I found that the standard 74 controls the filter cutoff, but 75 instead of 71, which was listed in a standard cc mapping document I found online, controls the Resonance of the filter. I love the dual VCOs in the analog machines on the Syntakt for those acid style sounds so those are my first main parameters I wanted to get down.
      Sorry for rambling on lol. I just love the Syntakt for its inspirational creativity workflow.😃😃
