Taemin and kai actually are best friend... it's cool to see both of them with similar vibe... they are very close... but kai is from Exo while Taemin is from Shinee... now both of them are in a group called Superm
They've known each other since they were trainees and often practiced together.

You have just witnessed the extreme dance king of Kpop! Taemin is LEGEND! This song actually shocked S. Korea and smashed the gender dance barriers in the industry, as Taemin believes dancing should be genderless. He regularly has both men and women as his backup dancers. In 2017, this choreo created a new virus widely known as the "Move Disease". Everyone who was anyone (commentators, variety show hosts, just about every idol) was doing covers of this dance trying to replicate Taemin's extreme body control and liquid-silver fluidity. No one could quite do it the way Taemin does. In fact, this phenomena is still going on.
Although Taemin is all man, he has said he has a dancer's physique, which used to really trouble him, as he wanted to have a more "manly" build. He is also quite beautiful for a man, which also contributed to the idea that he was "feminine". He used to get teased about it which also lead to his insecurities. It got so bad that his fellow SHINee member, Jonghyun (best vocalist in Kpop) actually wrote a song for him, which he performed with Kai, called "Pretty Boy". However, now he embraces his physique because it's part of what makes him such a spectacular dancer. It made me laugh when you said he gave you Kai vibes. Taemin, who was a trainee with Kai but debuted with SHINee in 2008 at 14 YO, actually mentored Kai. In fact Kai has stated this in an interview a few years back. They have been best friends since back then, their friendship is also quite legendary in the industry.

He is a beast when it comes to his stage charisma and dancing. World famous Japanese choreographer, Sugawara Koharu (who has done several of his choreographies including this one) calls Taemin the "dancer killer" because dancers feel like retiring after seeing him dance -- including herself. She says he pushes her to create more intricate and better dances.
Let me help you get to know Taemin and the massive scope of his music. It demonstrates the extreme respect and admiration directors, producers, lyricists, dancers, and other Kpop artists have for Taemin through their own words, articles, and interviews. You also hear about Taemin's work ethic and vision from his own lips.
Taemin began his career at the age of 14 when he debuted with the, also legendary, 2nd. gen., Kpop group, SHINee, as their main dancer. They are widely known as the "Princes of Kpop" for their killer live vocals, harmonies, dancing, and performances. Then, in 2019, Taemin was the first idol approached by his company, SM Entertainment, to form the new super group, SuperM, as a collaboration with Capitol Records and Marvel.
Now, at 27, and in the 13th year of his career, Taemin has gained legendary status due to his work ethic, tenacity, and many accomplishments in the field. As a totally self-taught dancer (no formal training like many other idols), he attended an open audition for SM Entertainment at the age of 12 and got in on the first try and made the first cut. This is extremely rare and difficult to do. Then, unable to sing due to immature vocal cords, he debuted at 14 as SHINee's main dancer. Nicknamed "Tone Deaf", Taemin worked extremely hard, practicing night and day on his singing and was helped by Onew & Jonghyun, the main vocalists of SHINee, to learn how to sing. In 2014, at the age of 21, Taemin became SM's first-ever male soloist from an active boy group to be given a solo debut. His onstage charisma, persona and success as a part of SHINee made him an immediate success as a soloist. From that moment on, SM dubbed him their "ACE". Taemin also became the first idol to debut four different times in three different generations of Kpop. Through all this, he also managed to get a degree in music and film.
Since he cut his teeth with SHINee at such a young age, and with SHINee being the major trendsetters in Kpop, especially in the area of introducing new and experimental music, Taemin is not afraid to be daring, experimental, and smash the traditional cultural norms of Korea. If you get into his and SHINee's music more, you will definitely see what I mean. Much of what you hear from 3rd & 4th gen groups today was introduced by SHINee as experimental years ago. They were one of the first SM groups to be given creative license over their work. In fact, Jonghyun, main vocalist, wrote over 40% of SHINee's songs. He also wrote songs for other artists and gifted his pseudo-son, Taemin, with several songs. They have had and continue to have a tremendous influence in Taemin's body of work. They are extremely close and all just got back together after Onew, Key, & Minho returned from the military this year. Taemin has told us to expect a SHINee comeback soon.
There are three things to remember when reading Taemin's lyrics and watching his MVs:
1) Taemin usually has dual meanings for his lyrics: A) take them as you read them and be happy; or B) delve more deeply to reveal the true meaning. For instance, the concept for "Criminal" is Stockholm syndrome. "IDEA" is a continuation of "Criminal" but expands the concept into Plato's philosophical Theory of Forms. "Want" appears as if Taemin is just tempting women and fans, but in reality retells the story of Genesis 3 with a sprinkling of the salvation message at the end.
2) Taemin is a Christian (devout Catholic) so there is also usually a lot of religious imagery, symbolism, metaphors, and allusions within his lyrics and MVs.
3) Taemin is DEEP and very intellectual. Much of what we know about the lyrics come from listening to him explain it on interviews and IG LIVEs. The rest is due to our (fans) research.
Sorry this is so long, but I feel it's important to understand the artist and his history, and music. I hope you will continue to explore Taemin's vast discography through his solo work, SHINee, and SuperM. Please don't sleep on him as many other new Kpop enthusiasts do.

We definitely want more Taemin - he is the icon of Kpop and he is called The King for a reason. His music is amazing and totally unique, just as his voice, dancing style, choreographies and concepts. He started off as the youngest member of shinee (which are back again after enlistment 😍) - Shinee is a pioneer 2nd generation group - they are all so freaking talented (and been through a lot together...) - Taemin was incredibly young back then - his members even walked him to school and picked him up again 😊
Taemin debuted as a solo artist in 2014 and is known for his "gender bending" performances. He is considered as one of the best (probably the best) dancer in kpop right now - he is even called "korean Michael Jackson" 😊

Thanks for your reaction. ‘Move’ is a song that to the untrained eyes have been deemed simple, yet no one has been able to duplicate it or simply try to duplicate it and make it their own. Taemin said is a very versatile dancer. He is a self taught dancer with no formal training. This dance practice is his most iconic. Here are other dance practices by him that you should check out.
FAMOUS: hard hitting (it’s more like a dance crew performance because even the backup dancers shine!)
SAYONARA HITORI: graceful and emotional
WANT: very groovy, it’s like he’s immersed in the character
DRIP DROP: I thought nothing can top the dancing in the MV, but the practice is somehow even better
CRIMINAL: a masterpiece, slowed down texture and fast pace
IDEA: all 3 chorus movements are different, it gets better snd better each time
You have mentioned how unique his voice is too. He can dance, he and sing, and it doesn’t hurt that he has the visuals as an added bonus. Taemin puts out songs that may not cater to the wider audience, but he is true to himself and stays in his own lane. He is actually an introvert, very shy and often awkward offstage, but switches to a beast onstage. I hope you get to analyze more of his dance practices in future.
I don't know if it was only me, but I think Kai is following Taemin's steps. That's the vibe it gave me when I watched Kai's MV and his performances. I wouldn't be rare cause they best friends and this is with all respect, don't get offended guys, it's just an opinion.

actually taemin and kai started almost together and trained together. there is a video of taemin that he talks abt it. that they used to stay in practice room together and dance and then sleep there. just taemin debuted sooner bcz kai was chosen for exo and exo needed more members so he couldn't debut yet. so we can't say kai followed taemin's steps. he started learning ballet when he was 8. before he even became a sm trainee he was an amazing dancer and won some great competitions. he even didn't want to become a kpop idol at first. he wanted to study dance for rest of his life.
anyway they both are amazing. i first started my kpop journey with sujo and shinee when i was a kid and then exo debuted and became my ult. but still taemin has a special place in my heart and is my baby and i respect him sooo much. i hope you don't get my words offensive. i just meant to explain.

Kai stans talk about this training to try to praise him. Praise like this implicitly insults Taemin for being self-taught because his family was too poor to afford dance lessons.

Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two dancers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. (Kai from EXO -- Taemin's best friend since they were trainees, who is also under SM Entertainment, as well as a member of SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends.
And the title of the industry's BEST dancer isn't just a fan's opinion but it's a widely agreed upon title bestowed on both Taemin and Kai by their peers and the industry as a whole. There is literally no one considered better than them.

The look and feel for "Move" is very specific, it's supposed to be androgynous and gender neutral. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee he was known for his feminine look. The industry thought it was novel and cute to dress Taemin up as a girl and play up his feminine features. (And if you ever saw Taemin dressed like a girl, you would see why. He really could pass as a girl, especially when he was younger.) Which ended up giving him a real complex about the fact that people never saw him as a masculine man. It took him a long time to accept the fact that he was known for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career as a 24 year old (He is 27 now) he was trying to make a statement about how he has now come to terms with just being himself and not caring what people think. Dancing is art and movement has no gender.
'Move" features all female dancers because the whole point of the song and dance is supposed to be about crossing gender boundaries and how just because you are male doesn't mean your dance has to be hyper masculine. Taemin uses what is traditionally considered more feminine dance moves to show how you can merge both feminine and masculine styles together to create something that can't be singled out as one gender or the other. This dance allowed a more mainstream audience to start to embrace less traditional gender roles within Kpop.
"Move" is one of Taemin's most famous choreographies and it has become the dance he is most recognized for.This dance has inspired what is known as "The Move disease," and it is said that the dance is so catchy that you can't help but try to imitate it. There are literally hundreds of videos online of people attempting cover dances to this song. (It's on the level of Beyonce's "Single Ladies" dance and some of the most famous TiK Tok dance challenges.) But no matter how good of a dancer they are, it is quickly apparent that there is just something about the way Taemin moves that can't be duplicated. Taemin is Taemin and there is no one else like him. The dance is never as sharp or precise as the way Taemin does it. That is why he is hands down considered one of the top dancers in the industry.
As Taemin has said numerous times in interviews and on variety shows, the key point in "Move's" choreography is literally supposed to be to stare into the camera like you are trying to seduce the person who is watching. So, that is exactly what Taemin is doing.
Taemin's choreography is very much influenced by him. Although he has input in almost everything he does, he has choreographers that come up with the choreography for most of his dances and he then infuses it with his own ideas and style and makes it uniquely his. The way Taemin dances is just the way he moves. His movements are effortless. If you watch Taemin dance more, you will see that no matter who choreographs the dance, it will always be very Taemin-like. Many choreographers who have worked with him over the years have said that, with Taemin you can't help but allow him to move in whatever way his body takes him. Taemin is art in every sense of the word. :D
Taemin's style of dance can't be defined. As he has said, he has worked his entire career to create a style of dance that is unlike anything in the Kpop industry. And I would argue that that now extends to the entire industry of dance. Taemin started out as a self-taught popper and locker without any dance training, and, even then, as a trainee it was clear his skills as a dancer went far beyond the average dancer. Over the years he has infused those isolations and popping and locking skills into his now more contemporary style of dance. But, when it comes to dancing, he can do it all and there is no one better at it than him.
The choreographer who created the dance for "Move" is Sugawara Koharu and she is a very famous Japanese choreographer who has choreographed dances for several Kpop groups, as well as American artists. She has worked with Taemin a lot over the years and she is the one that also choreographed Taemin's dance for his songs "Want," "Flame of Love,"'Criminal" and "Sayonara Hitori" and helped choreograph Taemin and her performance on the competition program Hit the Stage -- "Devil" performance, etc. She is also the featured dancer in the MV for "Move." Taemin and Sugawara are really good friends. She was also the choreographer for SHINee's song "Good Evening," among others. She loves working with Taemin because they are a lot alike, and that is one of the reasons why she has been featured in several of Taemin's projects. Plus, Taemin and all the members of SHINee, are also one of the most famous artists in Japan and they all speak fluent Japanese, so they have no problem communicating through dance or language. :D
Taemin has sacrificed everything to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today.
But there really is no one that pushes him or holds him to a higher standard then himself. Taemin has said that he really has never taken a true vacation since he was a trainee -- he started with SM Entertainment when he was around 11 years old -- and he doesn't know what to do if he isn't constantly working and training. The thing that he hates the most is when people assume he has had it easy because he is part of a big and powerful company and he is so naturally talented. As he has said, there has never been anything that has come easy to him and he has only gotten to where he is today because he has worked hard to accomplish everything. He is constantly pushing himself to become the best of the best in everything he does.
Taemin's talents are one reason why SHINee are one of the top groups in the industry and why they have such legendary status. SHINee is made up of some of the absolute best singers, dancers and performers in the entire industry. With more than 12 years since their debut, they still command one of the top spots. When Taemin debuted in 2008 as part of SHINee he was only 14 years old and, yet, he was already known as one of the best dancers in the industry, and he has only gotten more magnificent over the years.
Now after 12 years Taemin is still one of the youngest in many Kpop circles, however, he often has the most seniority and experience. He is so well respected that everyone looks up to him.
SHINee are a 5 member group that is known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live for 3+ hours straight and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography the whole time. SHINee is the group that really set the standard when it comes to live performances. It's literally known as the SHINee standard and it's what all other groups work to reach.
Kai is not the top dancer along with Taemin. He is nowhere close to Taemin's level of ability and has done nothing groundbreaking in the industry except make over-the-top expressions in every single performance. There are many Kpop dancers better than Kai. Also Taemin believes that dance is genderless while Kai has disrespected all female idols by saying that male Kpop choreography is more difficult than female Kpop choreography. And Taemin is a very good singer while Kai lipsynced all his solo performances.

I love this reaction! The choreo is very androgynous and Taemin wanted it this way because he feels that dance should not be “masculine” or “feminine” but just “dance”. Move was also a way for him to finally embrace his own androgyny, as for many years in his career he wanted to be a more masculine idol and did not want to be known as a “pretty boy” but his body and face are naturally more “pretty” than “manly”. Move was a pretty bold statement in the typical kpop world of strict “boy group” and “girl group” choreos and was groundbreaking in its more feminine choreo choices. Even now it is iconic and idols will still cover it.
Some background: Taemin debuted in 2008 as an idol at 14 with the group SHINee (he is still with them) and had his solo debut in 2014. He is currently still pursuing his solo career, preparing for a 2021 comeback with SHINee, and also he is a member of SuperM too. He is a hard worker who has risen from the days when he was called “tone deaf” to now where he is a successful solo artist with a beautiful voice and one of the best (THE best IMO) dancer in Kpop.
I really hope you’ll keep watching more Taemin, especially the dance practices. He has done a really wide range of dance styles in his choreos and his dancing is always extremely fascinating to me, so I love to see dancers react to him.

Edit: You are correct that there is not an official dance practice. But even despite the poor quality of the unofficial link, I love the dance "practice" video because his precision in it is so impressive.
Taemin has always been amazing but especially since this era (but you can see it a little before), Taemin has made a point to throw away the gender barrier in his solo dance and it's really upped his game so much. He's both a group and solo artist and when he was younger he used to have a pretty big complex about being styled in a feminine way during group promotions (eg. long hair, etc) due to his looks - since in groups, especially when you're younger, you have less control over those things. But lately, since gaining creative control in his solo work, he's really started to embrace that he doesn't need those boundaries and that he can do more with his dance and his concerts without it and has focused more on concept than gender, started using co-ed backups, and ends up with things that are so much more interesting and seductive than just the girl group and boy groups dances. He just has this sort of energy you rarely see outside of badass female performer; in a lot of his MVs and photoshoots, the way he seduces the camera and invites the viewer to objectify him and subverts the traditional male gaze is really interesting and magnetic.
I think he's probably also been influenced to accept that lack of boundaries by his band mates. One of his band mates in particular models for women's fashion brands and has been a proponent of genderless fashion/makeup for a long time (SHINee's Key). Just personally I've never been as much of a fan of overly manly or overly feminine portrayals of sexiness, so seeing Taemin embrace this aesthetic has made me even more of his fan... he's just so good at what he does and willing to leave the mainstream gendered box that most of kpop is stuck in and I'm living for it.
Regarding Kai, like others have said they're BFFs, but I think it's really interesting how in some ways they are very similar, and they get along so well abd both both have really strong stage presence and yet their stage presence gives off kind of opposing vibes to me. Kai has a more of a masculine/intimidating/controlling type presence, and Taemin has this much more... idk what else to call it besides an empowered-submissive vibe?
If you watch Taemin's Criminal with the subs on, it's a good example; for one thing it's not the first, or even the second (or even the third, if you count an old SHINee performance with Jonghun, and that's only the stuff I can think of off the top of my head) time he's shown up with his wrists bound in a music video or performance - it's just the first one where he's used it as a key part of the dance choreo. And the lyrics all have this vibe of "I just want to drown in your attention until it destroys me", that kind of feeling. There's this part of the choreography where he's being controlled/consumed by the other dancers and at the end of that bit, he sort of does this cross between a swagger and a swoon and says "destroy me more" followed by the climax of the song, which ends in "I don’t want to get away, destroy me completely." It's like instead of masculine energy where it's directed at like "Want me, so that I can control you" there's more of this "Want me, so that I can drown in your attention" feeling instead. Which is totally a theme that you can see pretty clearly all the way back to at least 2017 and seems to describe his type of magnetism quite well? Even though once he turns "off" from stage mode he's just adorable and introverted and slightly awkward. (Sorry that might have been a lot of weird TL;DR meta... ^^;)
Seconding some of the recs from others.. my faves are probably:
- Famous (his Japanese backup dancers are AMAZING)
- Criminal (so good.)
But bonus mention to: Black Rose (has done similarities to Criminal), some parts of Sayonara Hitori (especially the beginning), and I love WANT (has a similar vibe to MOVE) but I hate how the dance practice was filmed so it actually took me awhile to notice lol.
Taemin debut with SHINee then debut as solois, recently he's debut again with Super M (consists of members from SHINee, EXO, and NCT).

So many people recommended Taemin's Criminal, but his latest song IDEA is *INSANE!* Both the song & the choreo. Criminal & IDEA are related, so I HIGHLY recommend both: the MV's, dance practices, live stages, & the still fancams of the live performances. Why so many? Well, first of all, his MV's are a work of art, & you would be missing out 😊. As for the live performances, Taemin's dance practices are great to see the choreo, but it will probably only give you 20% - 30% of what the execution is meant to be like. He rarely goes all out on "dance practice" videos, even in the SuperM ones. You'll have to look up still fancams of live performances to really see him execute the MOVES in all its glory (all pun intended). In fact, here's a fancam of one of his Move live performances. Also, you're absolutely correct; Taemin has *range.* He's an extremely versatile artist both in terms of music, dancing, and variety in his choreos. After you check out his latest works, Criminal & IDEA (2020), & compare them to Move (2017), it will become even more apparent to you just how different each pieces are, & yet, they all still contain the fundamental colors of *Taemin.* Diving into his albums & b-side performances will give you a deeper insight into the brand called Taemin, but it isn't until you see one of his full concert performances that you will fully understand just what makes him so great & unique from any other artists within the industry, & I don't mean just Kpop when I say this 😆.

HES FROM SHINEE! SHINee literally revolutionised K-pop as a whole, they made dance in K-pop so much more complex and important to the performance, they started so many trends such as the dance practice trend, and despite hardships and struggles they are still going strong after a whole 12 years. They're extremely talented and committed to music, they were one of the first acts ever to produce and write their own music under SM entertainment, and they are just incredible overall. You will not be disappointed by their mass amount of content
Also... Hwanwoong from Oneus did a cover of this! I don't think you've seen Oneus before but they have some killer concepts (To Be Or Not To Be, Come Back Home, etc.) and they're super underrated for such an awesome upcoming group

Taemin has been in the industry for 12 years as he debuted in a group SHINee back in 2008 at the age of 15. Now, he's one of the respected artists in the industry and may or may not be the best dancer in kpop. He's considered an idol of idols because his journey and experience as an artist throughout these years inspired others to become an idol like him too. Taemin didn't have much experience as a dancer when he's a kid but he loves watching Michael Jackson and tried to do some of his dances. Even though he's self-taught, SM noticed his talent during the audition. I would recommend to you some of his best discography which are Drip Drop, Flame Of Love, Sayonara Hitori and the best so far from him is Criminal. Also, he's a best friend of Kai and they trained together before that's why their styles seem similar. They're also in a group called SuperM together

Taemin is the king of Kpop. He's been performing for 12+ years. He joined Shinee (the KINGS!) in 2008 at age 14. He's widely considered the best dancer in Kpop for his body control and popping skills. Shinee are icons. They invented the dance practice trend with their practice of Lucifer. They were the first.
He and Kai are bffs. They trained together as kids and I believe they influence each other's dancing a lot. Kai reminds me of Taemin like Taemin reminds you of Kai. They are also in SuperM together, a super goup coproduced by SM Entertainment in Korea and Capitol Records in the US.
Taemin is also called the MJ of Korea because he was inspired to dance by Michael Jackson. He pays homage to him in almost all of his videos, dresses like him, dances like him, etc. Taemin's soloing but he is still a member of Shinee. Their members were in the military and just returned. Shinee is making a comeback in 2021.
Taemin's whole thing is busting gender stereotypes in dance. He has a unique voice and a unique style. Other idols look up to him. Some idols even say they were heavily inspired by Taemin. He is the ultimate sunbae to many performers. He's a legend with a velvety voice and ultra smooth moves.

Taemin is a legend. He originally debuted with the group Shinee at the age of 14...he’s also known as one of the best dancers in k-pop. You should check out the Shinee’s “Good Evening” MV (the title track from one of their more recent albums), it is also has a super unique dance and has the same choreographer (Koharu Sugawara she’s amazing)!! Also check out the Move live performances they are all stunning~

Taemin is also the youngest member of SM boy band Shinee. He is one of the top 5 male idol dancers in South Korea. He also sings in his own style.
The most important thing is that Taemin and KAI have been friends since before their debut (although not in the same group but at the same age, Taemin came out three or four years earlier) and are still one of the best friends.

Taemin has debuted in a five-member boy group SHINee back in 2008 at 14 years old (his hyungs were about 18) as main dancer/center. He debuted as Taemin, the soloist in 2014 with mini-album Ace - where he features Kai, main dancer/center of EXO, in his song 'Pretty Boy'. They have been close friends since their SM trainee days. In 2019, he debuted in supergroup SuperM (SM's aces from different groups) with Kai. So currently, Taemin is a soloist and an active member of two groups (SHINee and SuperM).

Great reaction to Taemin!! He's only 27 years old but already known to many as probably the best dancer in the kpop industry! He's also 1/5 of 2nd gen kpop group SHINee and is currently pursuing his solo career for 6 years.
