'Our Cancer Drug Is For Rich Westerners, Not Poor Indians'

  • "In 2005, the FDA granted approval for a promising new cancer-fighting drug called Nexavar. Bayer took it to market shortly thereafter, and it is currently an approved treatment for late-stage kidney and liver cancer.
That is, so long as you live in the developed world. In a recently published interview in Bloomberg Businessweek, Bayer CEO Marijn Dekkers said that his company's drug isn't for poor people.
"We did not develop this medicine for Indians...we developed it for western patients who can afford it," he said back in December. The quote is quickly making its way across Indian news outlets.
The comment was in response to a decision by an Indian patent court that granted a compulsory license to a local company to reproduce Bayer's drug."* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

A CT scan cost over $5000 without insurance. Even with insurance it is around $100 . Whereas in India it cost $200 out of pocket no matter what. Wrong. Almost all citizens in Western European countries are covered by compulsory universal state-prescribed (public/private) health insurance, which reduces the prices of medicines which cost thousands of Euros to just a few dozen Euros or in wordt case to a few hundred Euros. Most such countries also have a “maximum annual medical bill” expense legislation in place, in one form or the other.

MegaPlosion Indians don’t seem to realise that their “wealth” was meaningless to the majority of India. India at the time was using vast amounts of bartering and there was no real set value of items, this value came from western countries, so in retrospect Britain and other European country gave India its preconceived wealth, that was worthless to Indians as a people as nothing had a “value” but people traded for what they needed and wanted, where as Europe were using currencies and the richer citizens gave the jewels and spices a high value, as they were exotic for the areas, so less people could afford them and therefore use them making them more exclusive. So Europe gave India its value of items, it was worthless until the exact point Europe said it wasn’t. I know it’s hard for you to hear, but it’s true. If Europe decided the resources were worthless, then they would’ve been. And I wouldn’t say India is the only nationalistic country, as Britain has decided to leave the EU. It I would say many Indians are rather extreme and hateful, without being particularly educated in matters of monetary value and the wider scale of trade and the economics of regional areas and continents.

6th largest economy by GDP? Not too impressive considering that it's the second largest country by population. It's the GDP per capita that matters, and India is not even in the top 100. Also, it's not the fastest growing economy; The fastest growing country by economy is Ethiopia.
Another fact, India is the one of the MOST racist country in the world. ALOT more racist than the US or the UK. India is also in the top 10 most sexist countries in the world.

They have no middle class and the richest own over 95% of the wealth. Attachment to the material exists in all societies, where humans lacking compassion, rule.

They have got this jealousy things that indians are all over the world working at top notch companies and at different fields whether it's science, computer, engineering or medical field. Trust me most of them can't handle these things! Whenever I say that I am an Indian they suddenly develop a disliking towards me! I don't know why.
To be honest, the German police hardly do anything if you register a complain! They will wait until and unless something horrendous has happened. It's completely useless registering a complain! They will leave the convict and will arrest the innocent ,so are the laws here, how obsolete and useless!

India literary has a caste system for people (prevalent even to this day) which is far worse than one policeman killing one black person. These people in lower castes are forced to do menial jobs like cleaning toilets (not brushing toilets but literary collecting poop).
Yet no one in india is protesting because of this neither do people protest when people from higher castes kill those in lower or when a women is raped by a group of men which happens fairly often in India.

1:58 ... Bro looks like those evil British Raj Generals who used to loot India, leave India's starving for months, commit Genocide, and then smirks about it saying .... "Ahhh, we are developing this nation beyond there imagination."

Lot of western countries poorer than India..dnt show ur western template...as India has own rich culture, not like looted Asian countries and being rich, pretended to rich. Rich is from your mind not from money.

Áléxis Séñchez it's very cheep. People with average income can afford it. It's almost free for poor and low income families but there are so many patients. We have limited number of cancer specialist but anyhow everyone is getting treatment.
