The box art looking like an Indiana Jones knock off is no accident - it was painted by Drew Struzan, who was also responsible for painting the Indiana Jones film posters (and a couple of the Indy novel covers too). In fact, the explorer on the front of Forbidden Bridge IS Drew Struzan as he modelled it on himself.
That brings back some memories. Initially I looked at the comparison and thought it was a victim of enshittification, but the motor improvement makes it a challenge now.

I love Forbidden Bridge, and lament the loss of my original copy any time I think of it (it managed to simply get lost in a move about 8 years ago now), and I'm super happy they're bringing it back! I definitely prefer the lower rumble of the new edition to the old one's high-pitched whiny whirring, but I did really like the slower, longer, more deliberate and _dramatic_ swing of the original to the much more violent shake-off feeling of the new one. If anything, I'd like it to be _even slower_ than the original, with bigger arcs; the idol is made of stone, it should have more inertia and less ability to just twitch the bridge! Great video though, thanks for going over the differences.
I prefer the old mechanism, its more tense and suspensful because its slower, wider arcs, runs for slightly longer and less obvious what will happen. More of a swinging side to side then a violent shake attempt to knock everyone off. Also the sound of the original is more akin to an eerie sound then the new deep motor sound, but I agree its probably more pleasant, I just think the intention originally wasn't to be pleasant intentionally.
I can very much see your point about the difference in function when it comes to swinging the bridge. I do feel the older version is much more dramatic.

I like the change in the Idol's engine; it's less noisy. However, in terms of appearance and the design of the illustrations, I prefer the original overall. (Maybe I would change the Idol in the original to the gray color from the 2021 version). The shaking of the bridge in the 2021 version seems to move too much and takes away a bit of the charm of being able to hang onto the bridge, like in the original. It’s a shame I lost the original when I was a kid and didn’t give it the collector’s value I would now. But I think I’d buy the 1992 version again. Great review!

Same as Alien. I was too young but Toys R Us had the Alien creature as a figure you could buy. Those were the days! Problem is the shark in that board game was silly and looked NOTHING like the famous shark from the poster. I imagine nowadays somebody with a 3D printer has fixed that problem. Maybe I should get a 3D printer?
I remember there used to be a few games with a similar "Adventurer/Indiana Jones" theme back in the day...I forget the names but one had you running from a tornado monster and that was done by having a custom design top in a cave that you wound up and when it was time to release the monster you pressed a button on the top of the cave and it would come out and you had to hope your were in a space it couldn't reach. Another was a big motorized thing where you had to avoid being grabbed by a rotating swamp monster with a giant hand that would grab you and pull you to your doom in the swamp. Can't remember the names for the life of me...but mom loved Indiana Jones so she was happy to play with me as a kid with those two games. My dad when I was over at his place (divorced parents) was much more of a family board game night kinda guy when I was there and the games were usually classic stuff like Sorry, Trouble, and other classic games like that.
