I personally prefer to use wood as it grows algae more readily than plastic. Sometimes I spray it with fertilizer and let it dry or soak into the wood. I sometimes use 2in PVC, drill some small holes in it, plug the ends with screen wire, these allow the fertilizer to dissolve and leach out to help the algae to stay productive. I also use some of the 4" slotted pipe about, 3 feet long. filled with cheap dry dog food. To stop up the end I use a concrete test cylinder wired into the end. I screw or wire these to the sticks. This allows the dog food to dissolve and to leach out, which attracts minnows which brings in the crappie. Most engineering companies are glad for you to haul them off for them. I also use these to weight down my pre-fab mats that I build on old pallets. I use an old pontoon to haul them to where I want them and push them in. It is quick as the work is done on dry ground. I screw the saw mill waste sticks to them with decking screws. Any questions, I will be glad to share. PB
