Jadon Sancho spent his childhood and the first part of his youth in the district of Kennington in London. His parents came from Guyana and Jamaica. I'm blessed to have a family around me who are good to me. Life would not have been good for me because there were a lot of bad people," he once said in an interview with BBC Sport, adding: "I just wanted to get away. What might have happened if I hadn't is with me all the time." His outstanding footballing abilities took Jadon Sancho to Watford at the age of 12 and to the Manchester City academy at the age of 14, before he finally moved to Dortmund - aged 17 - in August 2017.
The talented youngster went straight into the first-team squad but was initially eased into action with appearances for the U19s and the Regionalliga team. Jadon Sancho was first included in the Bundesliga squad in September 2017 and made his debut a month later, on 21 October 2017, when he was introduced from the bench by former BVB coach Peter Bosz. His first starting appearance came on 21 April 2018. He also scored his first goal in that game against Bayer Leverkusen, opening the scoring in a 4-0 victory.
The Englishman wore the Black & Yellow shirt in 137 competitive appearances between October 2017 and June 2021. He scored 50 goals and assisted a further 64 goals. No football player in the history of the Bundesliga reached the 30-goal mark at a younger age than Jadon Sancho. No Borussia player before him racked up 34 scorer points in the league or 40 goal involvements across all competitions within a season (2019/20 campaign). A year earlier, he was the top provider in the division with 19 assists and achieved the second-highest tally by a Dortmund player since data collection began in 1992 (Henrikh Mkhitaryan managed 20 assists in 2015/16). Sancho contributed two goals and one assist in the 4-1 victory over Rasenballsport Leipzig in the 2021 DFB-Pokal final. When he subsequently left BVB for Manchester United for a fixed transfer fee in the region of €85 million, Hans-Joachim Watzke said: "We're not delighted with the money. It was Jadon's express wish to return to his homeland and to move to the Premier League. He conducted himself absolutely correctly at all times in the process."
Sancho featured for Manchester United in 82 games between the summer of 2021 and the winter break in 2023 (12 goals, six assists). Now he will wear Black & Yellow again until the end of 2023/24 campaign.
Sancho became a European Championship runner-up with the England U17 team in May 2017. He scored five goals in six matches and was voted the Player of the Tournament. In October of that same year, he was part of the England U17s who won the World Cup title (three goals and two assists in three matches). He made his senior debut for the national team against Croatia in October 2018.
