Hah, the BSF farming is quite interesting. I actually started a research project on it back in 2006. It didn't go far as it was just myself and another student with no academic leadership, but the research was solid. We just didn't have the resources or long term involvement to see it through at the time. we did build a full greenhouse, larva beds, and started a colony. Our end goal was to produce biofuel actually and that is where it ran out of steam.

Insects don’t have omega 3 which fish oil has and needed in fish food. But the best opportunity now is coming from algae. Just like naturally where omega 3 comes, it has omega 3 fish loves it and is sustainable.
You can even use them to break down the agricultural wastes to turn into biomass...

I believe everyone knew that fish ate insects from the jump but, there are feeder insects like crickets, mealworms, waxworks, roaches. And there are feeder fish, rodents, and lizards that are breed to be fed to other animals. And I have freeze dried mealworms that I feed to my Tegu and the bottle says “Freeze Dried Mealworms for birds, reptiles, and fish” so just feed the fish plain insects live or dead.

They're eating food waste thrown away from farms, households etc, so its cost efficient. And since people simple DEMAND all the fish they can inhale, you could say yes.
It would be more "practical" to just eat the soldier fly larvae though, or stop throwing away as much food.

Considering we are emptying the oceans of fish, is it actually practical to NOT do this? We will have to start looking to insects if we are to feed the world population. And it might even be as a protein source for humans. Chewing on a worm might not be too tempting, but in the shape of a burger, does it really matter as long as it is juicy and tasty? ;)
