      In the end it's just stuff. He's had and loved it his whole life. Would've been a lot cooler if he'd been able to pass it along to someone but hey, a gift from his parents as a teenager might turn into a late-life experience with his wife and it got him on TV which is fun and exciting.

      It is heartbreaking... but, playing devil's advocate... maybe the guy doesn't have a family member to pass it down to or maybe someone who plays in the family? I don't know. But yeah, totally heartbreaking regardless.

      I bought a used ‘62 Jazzmaster in 1965 for $200 which is $1,733 in 2021 dollars. I was also 15 at the time, upgrading from a single pickup Musicmaster.

      $$$ Yes! My dad wanted to get a Jazzmaster for me as my first guitar when I was 15. My mom said no! "We aren't getting you a guitar, you'll be like everybody else, you won't stick with it." OK...I finally was presented with a Danelectro Convertible in 1963, which I still have, and I've had over a dozen Jazzmasters starting with a 1965 model I bought in 1976. Before she passed on, I asked mom about her comment of years past. She said: "You were never a quitter, you always would stick with things." Ha! She was 90 then.

    I LOVE the rhythm circuit on my JM....playing at church, there are times that I have to "noodle" behind the speaker. I play the songs on the lead circuit, then switch to the rhythm circuit to cut the volume, and darken the sound so as to not overpower the speaker....it's a great tool when you need 2 different sounds, instantly, with the flick of a switch.

    • @cloudshad0ws
      @cloudshad0ws 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL... It would probably take me a year to even realize. Though I dunno maybe I will try using it more. I like having the tone dialed back on the rhythm circuit so I can quickly switch without messing with my tone knob. But yeah I probably wouldn't miss it.

    • @CakeorDeath1989
      @CakeorDeath1989 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@d.w.8100 I took my Jazzmaster to my luthier and asked about getting the circuit taken out. He said it's not a good idea if you want to keep the Jazzmaster tone intact. Even if it's never engaged, the rhythm circuit plays a factor in how the pickups sound, and removing it will irrevocably change it. He said to change the values of the pots from 1meg if you remove the rhythm circuit. I didn't go for it in the end because that's just too much messing about - too likely that I'd fuck up the Jazzmaster sound. But bear that in mind if you're building one without a rhythm circuit. You may need to change the resistances of your other electronics.
      I'm going to believe my luthier. He's not just some dude, he's arguably the best luthier in Manchester, UK. So he knows what he's talking about. In the end we did a pickup swap, set up, and left the rhythm circuit in place.
      That's something I've learned since making that comment two years ago. 😋

    • @CakeorDeath1989
      @CakeorDeath1989 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @d.w.8100 sure thing, I just thought I'd mention it in case you were going for a more authentic Jazzmaster sound as no rhythm circuit will result in a much thinner sound than you'd maybe want. That may or may not be your thing, but also because you'll potentially be needing a pickguard cut with or without slots for the rhythm circuit (providing you're having a pickguard as part of your build), I thought it was worth commenting and letting you know. Unfortunately, I don't have your planned build in front of me, so it's pretty hard to gauge what you're going for with it.

    This one did not receive the nitro lacquer. In late 62 and a good portion of 63, Fender got really busy. They started cutting some comers in an effort to speed up production and fill orders. One way they did this is by NOT spraying the oly white Strats and J-Masters with lacquer. This is why this J-Master has not yellowed. I thought that you would know this.

    I wish I lived in a town with pawn or music shops that sold vintage guitars for what they were worth. Stuff that fetches 3-4k on reverb is sold for 10-30k in shops here. I saw a vintage twin reverb and just had to have it, but then realized these people wanted like 50k for it. It wasn’t some super rare old amp, it was like a late 70s. I hate pawn shops. I took a gold coin into one and was offered a tiny fraction of gold spot value. It was worth about 750 bucks, they wanted to give me 75 dollars. Luckily I wasn’t stupid and sold it to someone on Craigslist.

    5:56 You do realize that the guitar was given to him in 1966, so that would mean you right now would get a 2017 Jazzmaster in 2021? ;)
    Further, he probably was not the first owner, given the fact that the guitar was already 4 years old when he got it.
    I love this video, because you put your finger on all the things I notice myself, being a lover of guitars and being organizer of one of the biggest guitar-fairs in the Netherlands!

    Ok, it’s nice to see a hear type page that isn’t “The Guitologist.” I hate that freak, and his lame ass political rants. And the fact he seems to just wing it when working on stuff.
    I hope that doesn’t sound like I am damning with faint praise! You are creating great stuff! Thank you!

    Early 1990s Fender reproductions of their 1960s guitar are just as good as original 1960s guitars. It's like getting a newer original vintage 60s guitar. I wouldn't say that about the newer ones, esp after the advent of the Custom Shop.

      Nobody got ripped off, that's how pawn shops work. If you're going into a pawn shop with a guitar, you know what you're signing up for. All parties involved knew the game.

    hey i just had a question about my jazzmaster. it's been doing this rattling noise and so i watched many of your setup videos to try figure it out, i put some shins in and put the bridge a bit higher (even maybe a little too high) but i still get a bit of buzz. i have the jazzmaster original bridge on and i'm thinking maybe it comes from that but not sure. if anybody could help it would be much appreciated :D

    • @Puisheen
      @Puisheen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be the bridge for sure, but it could be a number of other things. Try strumming and touching different parts of the guitar and see if something doesn't go quiet immediately

      @@Puisheen No nothing just sudenly goes silent. but also i do have 10s strings on and i saw recomendations to have 11s or higher. Could it be possible the strings are too thin for the bridge so it rattles ?
