I appreciate the video and your stand on shaved bats. 18 years ago I lost a team-mate to a shaved bat. Most of our team were ex D1 players in league ball to keep us in shape for tourneys. This clown shot the middle and scalped our pitcher. It was a huge mess....huge brawl, investigation, charges, lawsuits, trial, and jail time for the guy. 109 to 112 was easily seen with a spider webbed U-trip....speeds of 120 and distances of 500 plus are what would be seen with doctored bats at that time. Anyway.....losing a team-mate sucks....losing one you knew all his life is a new level of suck.

I have a blue easton synergy cnt direct from our easton rep for the team that was no doubt worked on. My son grabbed it to play and couldnt believe it was hotter than the current bats. @@michaelmcguirk8370 thank you. I began in that same era. I had 2 full years of play with the OG Synergy till it was banned. I moved on to the + and red extended. No doubt they were sizzling hot. Before 240 bats were out the older green helmer 12 inch would drop to 130 psi STOCK after a ton of cuts and did more damage than any shaved bat. So it is possible to hit a uncut bat and the compression drops to insane numbers and will perform like a shaved bat.

Years ago when the debeer extreme clincher ball was 50cor 500-600 lb compression, they sounded like golf balls on the 1996 demarini doublewall bats. You could hit them for miles but they would destroy bats. Miken first bat was a brick then they made the ultra which got banned. Shortly after the ultra 2 was released but only to be banned later. I knew guys who would re-decal and paint them to look like velocit-e 2, I had probably 2-3 of those. Some guys got th og freak graphics copied and then the grey ultra was turned into a freak. I am 75 and purposely shaved a bat to see the difference. I took 100 hits with it new, out of the rapper, and marked the distance. I then wrapped it up and sent it out for having. I tried it out again when I received and there was NO DIFFERENCE. So for seniors, there is no effect.
110 mph exit velo is insane. I play third a lot of times and even the 90 mph hits are scary af because you can barely get out of the way of a bad bounce.
We just started a local league with a bunch of guys who played high level in the past. in the initial coaches meeting we discussed the rules and decided if your bat gets protested both teams test all bats from the game upon protest and if any bat is shaved that player gets an instant life ban and we stressed that everyone buy their own new bat because “i didn’t know” is not an excuse. There is no reason for it and most of us got our wives to play and i could not imagine watching my wife die in front of me and my kids all because someone wanted to look cool in a bush league slow pitch game.
SSUSA was testing bats a few weeks ago at Loudon Va tourney and were confiscating senior bats that fell below 140....YES, confiscating them....and the bats were just well broken in/used and NOT shaved...there is shaving in senior ball but obviously, hitting a ton of balls is going to bring the compression down....most good senior bats are at 180-190 to be most effective for medium to fast swingers....if it gets below that for the same hitters, the walls are just going to compress too much and take away the rebound/trampoline effect.....the bat will feel like mush to the same hitter if it gets too low...now imagine giving a 180-190 bat or a shaved one to a 40 yr old strong player???
What sad is there’s a page on Facebook that is dedicated to selling shaved bats and repainted senior bats to look like 220s or 240s with the stamps and everything. It’s crazy
thanks for the video, but i would like to see a broken in bat vs shaved bats at the same compression. With senior bats they get all the way down to 150 compression, but a former bat doctor told me that a shaved bat at a certain compression equal to a non shaved bat w ould be similar performance. So I am thinking the shaved bats just speed up the process of breaking the fibers, but once both bats say for in this case were at 200....how would they compare. ? Is it that the shaved bats saves hitters the time of getting a bat way down in compression? Of course there would be a big differrence in performance between a 200 compression vs 250 compression. Nice job guys, have wanted to see shaved vs non shaved comparisons...I think there is a group of rec players who hear and think a shaved is 40 feet further than their broken in bat...I think this is a myth and wish you guys would do a similar compression test, shaved vs clean. thanks
@Average Dudes Softball - With testing, bats have to pass 240 psi (Conference). If you can, let's see what a bat fresh out the wrapper, shaved with no swings on it tests at? Then show how it performs. People accuse Conference players of swinging dirty. Let's see what it would look like.
It refers to the about of pressure per square inch it takes to squeeze the barrel of the bat a specified distance (not sure of the specific parameters). These composite bats are double walled, they compress when the ball hits them and then bounce back. Obviously the more ‘bounce’ coming off the bat the more the ball will fly. So there are standards for how much a bat is allowed to compress under specific conditions. The tester shows that and bats are rated for different leagues.
Ive looked around and cant find much. The one I did find was 1500 bucks. Makes sense why most leagues dont even test bats... Cant be that difficult to reverse engineer and build your own. Thats my plan.

A ball hit right in the center is going to have a higher velocity, but less carry due to lack of backspin. Make contact a little lower and velocity drops, but carries more because of backspin.
Huge difference boss. A shaved bat will always have thinner walls than a stock bat that test the same. Which in return the thinner walls will give you a greater trampoline effect.
