Relax all ye hopeful, the FAA hadn't looked at his yt channel and thought oh no babyyy and then grounded him.
He's got one of the continental motors that need inspection and the bonanza was grounded for him and he needed a special flight permit to get it done.
Welp with that clickbait title and misleading intro, i am gone too..
I think a better fitted and also funny intro could have been "The FAA grounded my plane, but we are going to go fly anyways with a different plane of course"

I’m surprised he’s still alive.
Back in '78 our club took Possession of a 1977 C-172 N734UV for $23500 with 100 TT. At 377.4 Hours on the Hobbs we took it in for an AD and the CAM & Lifters along with the Oil Pump were all toast. This happened to about 6700 of the first Lycoming O320-H2AD's Built.
Man, 23.5k for a low time Skyhawk. Those were the days.

The FAA grounded the plane, not you. You are not flying a grounded plane, you received a special flight permit for a Ferry flight. Your title and your first words imply you are going to do something illegal and as I mentioned above I don't think that aligns well to the professionalism and care flying requires.

Didn’t watch the video after seeing that it’s click bait in the comments. I would have watched if you were really grounded, it’s been a long time coming.
It was interesting that your decision making was based around expecting the engine to fail. So you climbed near the airport, flew higher across the mountains etc. Will that mindset erode back to expecting the next flight to be like the last one, the take-off to be successful etc? It seems you were ahead of the aircraft on these recent flights.

Not your first round with clickbait. It's quite a juxtaposition that an MIT caliber human would dabble in such trivialities. You've set world records, created incredible media, shared aviation with tens of thousands, presented at Oshkosh, built multiple successful revenue streams...and then indulge in silliness like this in front of over 200k people. It's a rich tapestry. It's quite a clash for sure. I didn't think you'd keep doing it.

I just got my plane back from the same inspection. I was a bit nervous on the first flight after having 2 cylinders off, but all went well.

Click Bait, Miss-leading, Matt Guthmiller isn’t grounded by the FAA, one of his Airplanes is. So the ME in his title is very misleading. Much less likely to watch his future videos because of this stunt., If I’m a patreon, I’ll be cancelling that today. My brand new Continental was grounded before it left the crate to go on my Cessna. It made it through the inspection without any corrective action taken.

Matt you put some temp stills in looking out the front of the plane around 8:35 (and a couple other spots). Guessing you meant to drop in the video and forgot. You might want to update (can you do that on TH-cam?)

Is it just me or does the new engine sound like it's missing a cylinder? Compare to the engine sound of the bonanza to the super cub. I know it's a 6 cyl vs a 4 cyl but still, the bonanza sounds funky to me.
It does sound different/funky but I have no idea what it supposed to sound like.
@@SortaProfessional89 it sounds a bit like an VW my dad had with a cracked crankshaft, it still turned as it was cracket at an angle, but sounded more like a Harley...
Yes, this is definitely a 5-cylinder engine now. Obviously, they forgot to install one piston, which can be quite dangerous. You just can't find good mechanics nowadays!!!!!
Regardless of the click-bait title, if Matt sees increased revenue from this video, he can attribute its success to the clickbait, and it would behoove him to continue with the tactic.
As someone who was threatened by the FAA with "grounding" because of a possible medical issue, I take this video's misdirection personally. Being grounded is serious. I unsubscribed today because this and many of your other videos treat flying in an unprofessional manner.
Feels like I’ve been tricked
Infallible knowledge of surface covered by snow seems essential. Tree stumps and rocks could instantly end the fun. Pilot friend came across as having that level of knowledge of the area. Hopefully anyone watching this video with an opportunity to try same would be fully aware of risks and precautions to take. Always enjoy seeing the Jackson Hole terrain in snow. Thanks for sharing these experiences.

Had a similar issue on my last Lycoming Factory reman. The warranty only covered about 1/2 the cost of compliance.. So much for any advantage of a factory engine. Good luck.
