I wish the live action movies were some sort of realistic style adaptation, just like Kazu-sensei videos (they're good movies and enjoyed them as well, don't get me wrong).
Very deep bro thank you. Also very instructive, this definitely brings the techniques that are exaggerated in anime to reality in a very practical manner.
I've been working on this for quite some time; it appears simple, but it's actually quite difficult... It always puts a strain on my foot. Anyway, this is a very informative and useful lesson. Thank you very much, Kaz Kobayashi-Dono.
....when you said...’and wait for the attack...’, it reminded me of win-chun... from my childhood so I may be off but I do feel that in combat, that is often the wisest choice, though like you also said...’must be in the mind of your opponent...’, (if I remember you correctly). Like playing poker, one reads the other players.....but as I write this I know it’s all like you said about being in the moment, everything is so fluid... thanx for the reminder...wonderful
Heard about a New Rurouni Kenshin Anime Series today and started digging for it on TH-cam. Came across this video and honestly thought it was gonna be a joke. Excellent video Shihan, greetings from Colombia, I have a question, in the anime, Kenshin says that to start the attack you must have your left leg in front to be able to do the rotation and not waste time changing legs, however, I have tried to make the bato on this way and I think it is a bit difficult, any advice?

I still curious about air vacuum caused by powerful force of the 1st step that sucks in the opponent. followed by stronger slash of 2nd step. my dream is really doing it just like anime
Wow, I am floored by your analysis. I've been practicing this for almost a year using a tachi (shinken). The finer points you explained in the video are very helpful because they shed a lot of light on those unspoken questions I had about the Amakakeru. I guess because of practicing this for quite some time, it doesn't feel awkward. I kinda feel like I'm doing a hidari kesa giri. Does this make sense? Do feel free to post other moves from the Rurouni Kenshin story. I'll be very interested especially in the gatotsu of Hajime Saito. Keep up the awesome work you're doing! Stay healthy and safe! 😎👏👍👌
I thoroughly enjoyed your video. living in the moment, I haven't experienced. However, I've come to appreciate my life, and all I have experienced in a way i didn't expect. a year ago, i was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. Since then, I have surprised myself, and my friends because, I am not at all afraid. not sure why, i'm just not. anyway, thanks for the video.
@@SAMURAIKAZARTS while i don't have a shinai or bokken, i do have a walking stick that is about the right dimensions. i made it from a branch of a tree known as Honey Locust. I will give it a go.
is it true that when Seijiro Hiko XIII teaches Kenshin about the Kyo Ryu-zan....that in swordsmanship, there are truly only the 9 directional attacks that it will come from? and further more is it possible to perform all nine attacks simultaneously, therefore rendering any defensive position impossible (as long as they are performed with a fast enough execution) as Seijiro describes ?
@@terrorcognac then what is your take on directional attacks...? there is only 360 degrees in a circle...and that covers the overreach of any angle of those attacks...
I love this move, because it's a move that make me fall in love with iai strike. simple but insanely powerful. unfortunately, I still can't explain or find the reason why it's so powerful like that. someone says it should be weaker than normal strike which is used both hands to performed while this move is use only one hand. (only iai strike that I think it's make sense for its powerful. it's jetstream sam's quick draw slash. since his move used the force of blast to accelerate the unsheathe speed and support his slash. unfortunately, you can't do this move, if you don't have a fancy sheath like him....) in this case. the most powerful techniques should be Kuzuryūsen. since it's used both hands to perform. slashing at enemy with full force 8 times with different angles and 1 thrusting in the middle. quite make sense why it's powerful and dangerous. p.s if you want to try this move next time. I suggest you to do the live action version. it's looks realistic and practical than the anime version.
Iai strike by itself is strong because you are doing a strong pulling motion to pull your sword from its sheath, the excess energy would be transfered into the sword slash so despite only executed with one hand, it has the power of two hand if not more. There's a theoritical technique of two handed Iai Strike where instead of using only one hand to draw the sword, you use two at the same time and multiply it's power and speed, it's not realistic to do as it require precise synchronization of your hand as well as the sheath needed to be placed very firmly.
Sorry but it's wrong, you're missing a step, you're supposed to do 2 steps, you're only doing 1. The first step should be your right leg, the second step should be mid-draw and is done with your left leg: "Though its form is that of any other Battōjutsu strike, the Amakakeru Ryū no Hirameki differs in that - while a normal strike is performed by drawing the katana from its sheath on one side while stepping forward with the following opposite foot, using a single step, this strike adds yet another step (a second step) mid-draw with the foot adjacent to the sheath (creating a Stutter-Step) which momentarily creates an instantaneous acceleration to the forward-charge as well as the sword draw."
Came expecting fantasy move recreation. Left with a usable idea for iai. That's why I love your work Kazu-San!
