Hey man, I wanted to say I envy your courage to come on here and speak your thoughts, and share your lifestyle, and I also understand with the standards that you may have for yourself and/or your goals, that you have chosen to step away.
I just wanted to say that it saddens me to see that speaking one's mind and questioning social norms has seemingly become so socially prohibited. As a 23-year-old gay man, I enjoyed hearing thoughts from you; an organic stranger with your views on the world, whether they oppose mine or not, that never held any sort of negativity or hate behind them. It really does sadden me that speaking your mind is just becoming so taboo, and it's happening so fast.
But besides all of that, I want to thank you on behalf of the community for making the videos that you made, that shared real knowledge and skills that you brought to us all with genuine passion and love behind it. I will be checking back to see if you have reuploaded here and there, and I hope to be back to see what the future holds.

I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and wisdom so generously, and for inviting dialogue about some fascinating and/or difficult topics that others might shy away from. I don’t always agree with you, but I respect your opinion and am always interested to hear what you have to say and how you motivate your arguments. I know that you’ve encountered some disgruntled folks in the comments, but I think that anyone with half a brain between their ears could tell that you are a GOOD person. Christian or not.
TH-cam is incredibly difficult to monetize on its own. For 99.99% of people I think it’s better to be approached as a hobby, but I understand that your ambitions are greater in scope. The worst case scenario would be for you to feel trapped making videos here that take energy away from other projects that could be equally or even more fulfilling, monetarily or otherwise. I hope you find this decision liberating and that it brings you closer to your long-term goals. I’ll be on the lookout for new content from you in the future, but, until then, best of luck and take care.

I’m so sad to see this. I’m sat here with genuine tears. I know all too well how easy it is to be discouraged. I know I’ve not got an ASMR channel and mine is often made a mockery of (we all have different beliefs and mine happen to be spiritual) but I’ve been here for nearly 2 years and I struggle to hit 100 views! I have chunks of people unsubscribe most days and most video uploads! I made this channel in 2022 as an isolated single Mum of 2 boys and although I never planned to make money from TH-cam, I wanted to build a community and make friends. Something I’ve spent 35 years struggling to do. It’s very hard to not be triggered on this platform. But it brings back a lot of hard memories sometimes. I did have a break at one point too. As much as I’m aware that comparisons get us nowhere good, it’s sometimes hard to see newer tarot channels reach 1K subscribers in days or weeks and they get thousands of views! One recently thanked people for 90K in 11 months! It’s not the be all and end all when connection is what matters to me, but it does make me question where I’m going wrong and I must remind myself it’s not personal. I feel like you’re someone I’ve related to on more than one occasion and your presence will be missed. Truly. I will keep my eyes and heart open for a return when you’re ready. So much love and gratitude ❤

Duuuude, I relate so much to all of this. I have struggled for so long with YT, but I keep coming back for more haha. I also feel like my personalty is at odds with the community narrative, and feel like the odd one out all the time. I've risked speaking on politics, religion etc on my channel with mixed results. Hope you come back!
Yeah...just checked your channel out. Looks like you are in the same boat. I was in a situation where my subscriber count was going up but my views were going down. As you know, the views are what pays so without those, the subscriber count is really not that relevant. I pushed pretty hard for 4 years but just accepted that it's not likely going to work doing what I was doing. I'm not one to give up easy so it was hard to walk away but felt like it was the right thing for my sanity.
I recently started watching your videos, and I truly enjoy them. A patreon may be a good option.

Whaaaat. Haven’t watched yet but reading comments and I gotta also let ya know, I really enjoy the videos, Asmr reality has been in my top 3 since I discovered you since January. Hopefully you can continue videos in the future brother.
Derek, I'm going to try my best to explain from my point of view on why you don't get the views or subscribers like most channels, let me start off by saying you are one of my favourite ASMRtists ever. You've helped me sleep countless times and your talking points are so interesting to me. However, I believe the things preventing you from becoming big are;
- Talking points; what I mean by this is you talk about very niche and different things.
- Video style; relating to the above ^ , your videos are mostly talking in a whisper & occasionally a cupped whisper, not much change otherwise.
- Trends; what I mean by this is if your main goal is to get big, you need to ignore what you're passionate about and follow the most popular ASMR trends for the time.
- Platforms; I believe the best platform these days is TikTok, so many people are on it and many people (including myself) find a lot of content on TikTok and begin watching on TH-cam.
- Marketing; relating to the above ^, your Thumbnails, Video Topics, Video Names could be viewed as uninteresting.
- Views ; As you stated, political, religious views etc. can be a make or break for some people, only way for this to not happen is by stopping them type of videos, as mentioned above in talking points.
Let me just restate Derek that I am a huge fan of yours, I listen to you daily but don't comment a lot, however, I can totally understand why you're stopping this, it's frustrating that you've been doing this for a number of years and not gained much traction. I look at your channel almost daily and wonder how you do not gain more views than you currently pull. I believe that you need to revaluate on why you started ASMR. You say that its because you want to give back to the community but from this video it shows that you're taking some time because of the view count. If you want to do ASMR for your (almost) 10,000 subs please do because we enjoy your talking points and your controversial views. However, if you want the views and to make somewhat of a living, try changing your style, your talking points, the way your channel looks. Again, Derek, I will watch what ever videos you post from this point on. You have helped me so much and your voice is the reason why I watch you.
If you don't post again, thank you anyway, you've been an amazing person to listen to.

My Final Video got so many views because it had a clickbait title. I just hate having to try to manipulate for views but its obviously what works. I’ve only ever commented once on your videos, because we have pretty opposing views on a few things. I didn’t want to say something that would invalidate your thoughts or views, nor make you feel negatively. And I definitely didn’t want you to stop offering your perspective.

The irony here is that this video was randomly recommended to me by TH-cam, maybe because it has a more 'clickbaity' title than your normal videos (I wasn't subscribed to your channel). So this might just be a video that gets more views than usual.
Sadly, you are right. It takes manipulation to win at this game. I thought I could prove otherwise but algorithms don't care about good intentions. Thats the scary thing about the future with robots. They don't care...they just do. Glad you found me, even if its the end!
