    Grea t mechanics, Sensei. I'm a Shotokan practitioner and The crossing over you just demonstrated helped my kick a lot. I will practice it your way. Are you a Shito Riu guy?

    Are you demonstrating yoko keri keage here?

  • @Abluemoon9112

    Nice kick by the way. You can get a similar amount of power with the sidekick out stepping if you chamber your kick on the inside and not straight up. That is more of a korean martial art way of doing it.

    • @TheRadiastral
      @TheRadiastral 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly right, I also learned the TKD version of the side kick, which I think is what you're describing. They chamber very differently than what's shown here. In TKD you chamber by bringing your leg up in a much more horizontal position, while curling up the upper body at the same time. There is this "coiled spring" action going on here in the leg-hip-upper body chain and the more you exaggerate it, the more powerful the kick. While the kicking leg extends, the upper body twists violently the other way and you hit with the *heel* , toes pointed slightly downwards. The aim is to "impale" your opponent with the heel. At least that's what I was taught. The karate version seems quite different indeed. It's a bit more controlled, than the TKD version, but more of a push-kick, almost. Just my opinion anyway.

    • @Abluemoon9112
      @Abluemoon9112 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRadiastral the shotokan/karate way is better if you are doing combination. But as a counter or in isolation I like the TKD way better. I do both ways depending on what I am looking to do.

    I think its better chamber to the side. Stronger kick and saves your hips.

    That is the problem in that way of side kick: you raised first your legs and then kick sideways. This will telegraph your kick; and even delay your kick. Why not kick instantly in the natural way---just kick your feet ways.

    • @paulcalugar1438
      @paulcalugar1438 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it’s very easy to check w/ bottom of the foot or block a kick that comes straight from the floor.
