Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression the first caliper to bleed is the one furthest away from the master
Ben crimmins was just about to say the same. Always how I was taught
Yes, always bleed from the furtherest one away. Been a mechanic over 6 and a half years and never had an issue doing it the normal way as well all know haha
Yep that’s what I was always taught.
@@evilmidgetdude With abs on cars should you find some dirt to lock up the wheels and also cycle the new fluid through? sometimes are gets stuck in the abs plumbing. Yes also taught furthest brake away.
sirjolly81 wrong, with ABS you should plug in the scan tool and go through the bleed procedure. That is the only way to completely flush the system.
That is where a manual transmission and a big brake kit come in handy . The hydraulic brake kit is the next step as you increase payload. Friction material also comes into play as you need to find what works best. I prefer riveted instead of bonded shoes and pads because heat can release bond . I also prefer organic shoes and pads because they stop good and spare your drums and rotors . A little more brake dust but are cheap and easy to replace. Now a clutch plate is a different story so an upgrade to a performance disc and pressure plate will save you from having to tare it apart on the trail . GVWs are there for a reason so Don't overload your rig or you may start loosing axel bearings and other drive components.
Well than i have been taught to do the furtherest away from the master and i have just finished my apprenticeship. Hmm
Do the furtherest. Is furtherest is a word? The fatherest one.

no er in it
Love your videos Sam. I’m no expert but I think you meant to start from the furthest wheel from the master cylinder
Aussies are just way more into this stuff. I feel like I’m on another planet over in the US sometimes.
DIY thing is twin vacuum pumps from a electric car into a air tank. this only works for petrol more than diesel i have found out, but it work heaps better and is less that a $1000 depending on how extreme you go
Drives up rock wall to get some flex happening!
Love it mate 🍻
Sammy Boi, you probably had that delay in braking as like a few others have mentioned, brakes are bled from the furthest point first! This way you're clearing the main line (circuit) from all air bubbles, and can then do all the individual sub lines (circuits) without worrying if the main line still has air bubbles that could possibly get reintroduced into the sub lines!
Other than that, looks like the product worked well, good job!
Wow ur spot on with 99% of ur advice make 1 little hiccup n u get pumped ah social media gota love it
patrol break bleeding is a nightmare, i feel you bro, you have to do it at least 3 times to get it working properly
What a noob !
Do it right only once 🤷🏻♂️
So if your engine stalls out on a hill or while your driving will you lose braking assistances straight away rather than a vacuum assisted system where you’d have some vacuum left to stop you?
Be interesting to see the results with your canopy on too
You havnt said much on how the auto compared to the manual????
Fuck that's crazy Sam! That's what we all need. My Prado breaks are shocking
where’s the second snorkel
Finished watching. Good piece mate.
Love the science, bush & mark on gutter as references and then states had to give it more ompf on the second run ( so campaison of braking force is what?) - lol.
Really enjoy the videos but man do you need to sort your timeline on, I recall seeing this on your Instagram about three months ago
Kinda kills the vibe
So do you need an engineering certificate ? Think it's a great idea . I presume it has some sort of priority valve so the brakes work before the steering ?
Mark Foster I also wonder about the legality of this system, are you allowed to power your brakes off the power steering pump?
As you know, 79s don't stop either, but mine locks up on 35s with the Superior brake booster upgrade. think half the price as Marks. Easy 1 man job also.
And you still have vacuum stored in your vacuum canister if the engine stalls, that's my biggest issue with the hydraulic kit. No motor, no brakes.
@@NAGoodness or the belt snaps. No more brakes
These systems have a pressure accumulator which is the same as a vacuum canister
im kinda suprised how bad the pootroll brakes are standard. my vitara had 33's and pulled up as quick as his after the hydro kit.
How does the steering and brakes go when in a car park or backing and filling ?
Can the power steer pump keep up with both ? Or is what your initial brake fade was ?
Would like to know the same.
Good on ya Sam.
How does this modification effect road legal, do you need to get an engineer to certify it. Looking at the NSW modification rules it appears the brake system seems to be something that they are trying to stop people making changes to
So some one tell me...has anyone in Australia done this..in particular a hzj80 Landcruiser...an is it legal ...is blue plate needed
Hi mate, viewer from other side of the planet here (Cyprus). I love my old GQ/Y60 with TD42 engine but to be perfectly honest braking power is just crap - so I watched this video with GREAT interest... the Marks 4WD Hydraulic Brake Kit might just make it into my Christmas stocking...2 questions for you: (1) in the video you mentioned a time lag in brakes biting - is this a side effect of this particular system or were you able to fine tune it away in the end? This would be a deal-breaker for me. (2) any chance of getting a discount code from the manufacturer for your viewers? By the time you add in freight cost and import taxes the total cost goes up a lot when ordering from the land down under for us foreigners... any little helps! Cheers! And congrats on the top content. Even if you don't have a Patrol or indulge in DIY mechanics its still fun to watch! Finally, any tips to make the old TD42 shift just a little bit faster on uphills (other than adding a turbo)?
how the fuck have you only got 73.4k subs you deserve way more.
i visited their site, and it sucks they have none for the hilux 2014 because all of their are coming for hiluxs without vcs
umm yes an improvement, but as I see it still could be better a 60ks id hate to see the stopping distance at a 110ks, have you checked your rear brake proportioning valve?? adjustment
Thanks Sam 👌
7:26 brake fluid return line being connected to the power steering reservoir? sounds like it should be connected to the brake fluid reservoir instead.
It’s hydroboost return line not brake return
what’s the window sticker going up the side of the snorkel?
ur fun to watch mate.. haha.. subscribed
OMG that's horrible! My GU used to be like that until I put better pads in and bled the fluid.
Yeah all the gu patrols have crap brakes.
Man this is something we need for our Hilux's haha
Chris Higgins I’ve got one of my Hilux. Same company sells them.
@@MountainBiky what year is yours? Mine is a 95 lux
Do you know if they do these brake kits for Toyota landcruisers
Cool upgrade, good luck claiming insurance if you crash
Why not go with bigger rotors first
Na mate retest you hit the gutter on the new run that would of effected the braking and helped it slow down. I m not convinced
Let me guess this upgrade is due to needing brakes more with no manual gears to help slow down 🤷♂️
How quickly do you think you can row back down from 5th to 1st to stop from 100kmph to 0? Much slower than a big brake kit and hydrolic booster can.
I've been eyeing one of these kits off for a while now... Definitely going to get one now!
What are your thoughts on upgraded pads and rotors?
I have a 2005 GU auto and I fitted 33 inch tyres. The standard brakes were scary!! I upgraded to braided lines, high quality brake fluid, slotted rotors (DBA) and Bendix Metal King brake pads...... what a difference - like day and night. Just make sure you change rotors before or at the same time as the pads due to the fact that they will chew into the factory rotors quickly (as they are much softer than quality aftermarket). Terrain Tamer also do some good rotors.
Hope that helps.
@@dingodazz3724 you should see the difference when you actually use a quality brake pad instead of the Bendix rubbish.
@@pv3566 Do you have an example? The reason I ask is that I have had a lot of vehicles and tried a lot of different brake pads and I have found the "Metal King" to be a good affordable off the shelf replacement. But if you are talking about competition compounds then they come with their own challenges, eg. getting up to operating temp before they work optimally which is not good for an occasional emergency braking situation.
@@dingodazz3724 try EBC, QFM, Project MU all of which have much higher quality pads around the same price as anything from Bendix.
@@pv3566 Unless EBC have improved (I haven't tried them in several years) they are not high quality, not too bad on a small lighter car but glaze the discs very quickly on a heavier vehicle (leading to no biting & braking ability), they also had a reputation of unbonding from the backing plate.
Unsure about the others though.
Either way the Metal King pads I currently have in will lock-up all 4 wheels if I stomp on the brakes hard enough... you can't ask anymore than that. I have been using them for 15+ years on several different cars with great results.
Can you do this on a rd28 ?
Because my brake booster keeps failing 😶
Too costly for what you gain? Run braided lines and quality brakes and learn to double pump.
Yes. Double pump especially if u didnt throw away your abs brake
Have you driven a 4.8 Patrol Sam? They stop heaps better than all the others. I can pull up quick and lock up 37's pretty good
Darren Boxhall yeh mine pulls up pretty quickly when I spot a petrol station out bush....
Pulled to left didnt it?
What jack do you use Sam?
Its a supercheapauto one the biggest one they sell. I have one and love it. They go on sale quite often.
your back home already?!
Personally, I fail to see how it makes any difference which cylinder is bled first.
When you press the pedal it pushes fluid forward. When you release it fluid goes backwards. If you start at the front, by the time you get to the rear as you're pumping you can reintroduce air back into the first lateral lines. By starting at the furthest, it clears the mainline entirely of air so that you've only got air in your laterals to pump out Individually.
Ill be your friend
This worries me from a reliability point of view. If your power steering or belt goes you have NO BREAKS..
Many pickup trucks that have diesel engines use this type of braking system - commonly referred to as "hydroboost".
I've heard a lot about this kind of kit, but if you get any kind of fluid leak doesn't that mean you will lose both steering and brakes?
I assume the performance would degrade. You won’t just lose both all at once. Without power steering you can still steer manually anyway
Same as if you have a vacuum leak.
Really need to put a disclaimer that you're not a mechanic and take everything you say with a grain of salt. People are going to learn the wrong things and may get hurt
Do a burnout
Sam 293- were you born in Feb '93?
Or the 29th of march
Hydraulic is rev related
Mate I've been thrashing an 80 series around for over 15 years brakes are fine mate just change pads and rotors when ya need ffs.
Hydro brakes have been around since the 70's this is nothing new. A quick trip to the junk yard you can build a hydro setup way cheaper than these kits. Diesels don't have vacuum that's why they use hydraulic brake boosters.
I have HZJ80 and I am pretty sure that I have Vacuum brake booster.
@@ondrejmarko01 yes, i did not state that correctly most domestic manufactures have been running hydro boost for a long time an parts can be easily had at wrecking yards.
Or they do and run a vacuum pump.
$1585 aud for the kit as of 3/12/2023. Cant afford this stuff in the current economic travesty we find ourselves in.
Abs
u bleed from the furthest side of the break booster, typically rear left, rear right, drivers (right), passenger (left) wouldnt go giving advice on how to bleed breaks unless ur qualified or have a solid source? you may but... not sure who would teach others to put bubbles in their breaks 🙄
You don't understand how brake boosters work don't you?
By using a update brake boosters you can stop the car with less human power.
You are misleading people
Wrong, the vacuum lines max out at 1000psi regardless of how hard you press your foot. The hydrolic boosters hit 2000-2500psi.
