    I think I might just order the up cut bits 1/8 &1/4 next. I have the carving liner, profile 60* and 90* (but not the fat one).

    I've broken a few tips off the carving bits. Thanks for saying, don't go more than 1/8" deep. I always find myself carving too deep.
    Thanks for the tips!💯

    Howdy Carvin Dudes...
    I watched yesterday's video and this one. Good videos. Very informative. In case ya don't remember me, I've asked questions in the past about a finish for a Mailbox Makeover I'm "still" building (12 weeks now, very detailed). I still don't know what a sanding sealer is, I can't seem to find any.
    Anyways...So I've been doing a sign/plaque for the past 3 days now to Honor my daughter who's coming home from Texas Army National Guard. I'm still working on the 1st one of 4 the wife wanted me to make.
    These are my very first signs. I'll send pics when I'm done.
    I've been using a Dremel for the carving of letters and emblems. So, obviously, I've downsized the bits to 1/8" bits. The lower case letters are 5/16" tall, upper case are 7/16".
    The sign itself is 12.25" x 5.75" . There are a total of 64 letters on this one plaque alone.
    Now to the my question. What would yall use to engrave these letters? For that matter, what's the smallest letters yall would do?
    I am using "IMPACT" font btw. I've got a cramp in my thumb like you wouldn't believe but I'm pushing through, I've got 3 more plaques to do after this one and those plaques are a bit smaller LxW and the letters will be smaller too, I believe they are 1/4". Oooyyy!!
    Yall make it look so easy. I thought I could get these done in a day. I've learned that I hate doing "e" , "a" and "s" . Oh yeah, these are all inset letters.
    I don't think I'll ever do tiny letters again unless I get a benchtop cnc or laser.
    So, do yall have a limit on how small yall go?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok, first, here's a link to some good sanding sealer amzn.to/3uSRhVj
      Second, The smallest letters we'd do is somewhere around 1/2" and we'd use the carving liner. And that's difficult to do! And I sure wouldn't do a sign full of them!😂😂😂
      So I'd try to put some bigger letters on there, or make it a bigger sign. If you have any other questions shoot me an email eric@makeawoodsign.com

    Informative, thank you.. I'm cutting out a logo (simple lettering and a musical note symbol), similar to your projects in the video, on a piece of (~5x20) tropical hardwood. Which bit would you recommend for my trim router in this hard material?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Matthew! For cutting out an image the spiral upcut bit is the best. For carving into the wood and not cutting it out, it depends on the artwork, but the profile and carving liner are our go to bits. Here's a link to all the bits we use makeawoodsign.com/collections/router-bits

    Hello. I'm getting back into my Hobby. I want to purchase a set of Bits. Before I do. Are these Bits recommended for Hard Woods like Solid Oak. Your Videos are Fantastic and Inspiring. Thank You for the content👍🏼

      Hey Harvey, yeah these bits can definitely be used on hard woods. We've carved everything from pine to ironwood and these are the only bits we use.

    Do you have a bit for doing signatures

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It just depends on the width of the line. The smaller the line, the finer the bit.

    • @joeyalent4974
      @joeyalent4974 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the carving liner. Do you have anything with a finer tip?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the carving liner is about as fine a tip as you'll find.
