yup just americans being americans and they still often dont get why we get frustrated. Ive watched too many struggle with every aspect of basic life i swear, if things arent handed to them or babied for them theyre lost. Even the simplest things like knives and forks. First time i drove in france when i was like 19, i barely thought about it despite it being my first time and having a car full of rowdy friends.

A few years ago the wife of an American serviceman in the UK was driving on the wrong side and had a head-on collision with a motorcyclist - killing him. The military rushed her out of the country before she could be arrested and go to trial.

10:32 She did not get a 'flat tyre' she crashed basically, she hit the curb then drove into a ditch and popped her tyre then instead of putting the spare on they had to get towed. I think americans should have to do a simple course, like staying on the road and not hitting curbs, if they want to drive in europe.

I'm a Canadian living in Australia, who has also lived in the States. I have driven on both sides of the road. And to be honest, I like driving on the left. I can hear the rapid in-suck of breath from all in North America. But let me explain. I love manual gearbox cars. And I'm right-hand. Along with most of the world's population. So the gear shift lever is is down there where my left hand can fall upon it easily. My right hand is on the steering wheel, where it can perform fine control adjustments of vehicle direction. My left hand only needs to push a gear lever through the gates through the gearbox. For right handed me, I have better control. When I'm in North America, I always get an automatic transmission car to drive along the mostly straight, congested highways and freeways. Oh, for the autumn weekend drive through the Adelaide hills, to have lunch at the Green Man Pub in the middle of nowhere. That's in South Australia, for those who don't know.

Bless 'em. That's the road sunshine. Not a back road. Back roads are often very narrow and have 'pull in' spots every couple of feet so you can overtake. I personally don't understand why Americans find driving in the UK such a big deal. As long as you use your mirrors and indicators like you should anyway, your main concern is knowing the speed limits for the type of road you are on. Also, don't hog the middle lane of the motorway.

It’s very easy and people adjust in a very short time. I (as many others in the UK) often drive on the continent in our own cars or even hired left hand drive cars. I have done both many times with no panic. The only adjustment to make in a hired car is changing gears with a left hand.

I was curious about the rental COST, so checked out the company (as shown @ about .56 mark, on VW window); Cool Campervan Hire Scotland. For that size (dependent upon model - with or without shower/toilet etc.) - they range from £575 to £680 per week (sleeps 4). Which for a family of 4 saves SO much on hotel's/B&B's or accommodation AND you can drive all over! 😮

We have no "interstates" because we have _no states_ , we have counties and boroughs* (*pronounced 'burruhs') Our big main roads are called Motorways, and our roads in towns are just called 'roads' and 'streets' - according to their names - and then, we have our narrow 'country lanes' in, and inbetween villages...

    _not_ "Fort Williams"). 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧😊🖖

There are at least three things that some Americans do wrong when driving in the UK .
    1) They start to panic about driving even months before they get here , they have to calm down.
    2) They haven't read the highway code even to get an idea of the rules even though most signs etc are the same ..
    3) Even if at first they get help with the directions etc from a partner etc the helper gives them far to much information because they themselves don't know how to drive .
    4) Instead of concentrating on driving they talk too much which is a distraction .
    5) Before a partner drives who is a tad nervous , the main driver after getting used to driving on the correct side of the road should explain what they are doing ie looking for a place name on a sign so they know were to go / making sure that the white line in the middle of the road is on the drivers side /. being careful around parked cars / looking out for children / bicycles etc etc
What would help is if visiting friends / family or TH-cam people is to make sure they have insurance then with a person that has a UK licence drive for an hour with them in the passenger seat as an instructor !!! .

  • @WookieWarriorz
    @WookieWarriorz หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Honestly this seems to only be an issue because you guys dont seemt to have real driving tests. In the uk 45% of drivers fail the driving test. We dont fret when we cross to mainland europe about driving on the right too much becuase were generally better trained drivers, this is obvious by the per capita road traffic accidents that are 10x-150x lower in the uk, per capita. Personally i dont like the idea of people without a real test driving in the uk, especially ones confused by a roundabout. Also in the usa you bulldoze nature to build your roads very straight, we rarely do that and roads follow old historical paths, so roads are bending, going up and down hill and mountains constantly, the roads around 5:45 are not 'backroads', theyre standard size for a normal road. Backroads dont really exist in europe, theyre just the road, most of the time we havent built a giant motorway through that area.

I've driven in the States every time we go, it takes about 5-10 minutes to adjust to the opposite side of the road, I really don't understand why US citizens think it's hard, other than that the driving test in the States is the equivalent of us practising in a car park when we first try driving. They weren't really back roads, they could seem that way to someone that hasn't driven here before and really explored. They were driving on spacious roads compared to real back roads here.
If there is/are markings on the road you will tend to hug them without going over them (drivers side), if no markings then there might be a tell in the way the road was tarmaced. If there isn't a way of knowing that, you use spacial awareness and common sense with due care.
With driving, confidence is the key. Also don't over think things and have distractions, those two are the biggest mistakes (also substances in your system is another). These go for anywhere in the world.
Also there is a tendency of Americans to be over exaggerating things and such (the such being more on the over thinking things).
Basically, common sense and knowledge should prevail.
