He and the surgeon did dice rolls on it and it went very poorly. Dimoak thought it was the right direction for the whole arc. There's at least one clip channel that has Dimoak talking through the whole situation as Ray and Benji put him in cold storage in the hopes that somebody could possibly revive him.
