Die Hard Fan?
The thing that favours McDavid, that I have only seen in one other player in hockey history, Valery Kharkamov, is his unique shot release point while on attack. Allow me to explain: McDavid comes off the wing accelerating rapidly, the instant he cuts, he may shoot. He does not hold the puck until he reaches the middle of the ice. McDavid shoots through defenders legs, past defenders hips on the shift, hands quick enough to make a perfect pass when he has no right to do so based on imbalance that others players create at the same speed. McDavid has the ability to take low percentage shots and turn them into goals anytime he is near either face off circle. If Steve Irwin was still alive he would describe McDavid as …. Danger, Danger, Danger. The Oiler problem is still the same as it was when they won all the cups. 3 players on Defense are adequate, the other 4 continue to make glaring errors, leaving the goalies stranded.
i honestly think his points per game can improve more. he will be working on his defense lots from now on, because he's already the best offensive threat by far. but I think he can at least reach 2 points per game in a full season, but maybe more. look for him to get over 160 points next year if healthy
He is indeed THE apex skater in generations. The guy combines dynamic skating with ALL other important skills like no other! It is not that all the defenders and goalies are beginners in what they do - they are on the very top themselves and then there comes a guy who makes them look ridiculous on a daily bases! God, I wish he would have a decent team around him so he could fill his trophy cabinet with the one single trophy that really matters... Tripple digits with 50 goals for 23/24
As a lifelong Oilers fan, I'm admittedly biased here, but the Oilers aren't exactly a bad team. They should have built up a good roster around McDavid from the get go, but unfortunately we had to deal with the Chiarelli years. The team lacks a stud #1 goalie (although I think Skinner can turn into that eventually), and their defense leaves a bit to be desired, but I think it's a stretch to call them a subpar team. And your team is smoking out goalies like crazy - and that's not a goalie but a defense problem. That defense is an overpaid joke. The Oilers top 6 are some of the best - but I would not see them as the very top combination. Grit and backchecking are not on the highest level. To build the best team, maybe one doesn't need the best of the best individual player - because they suck up too much cap space. Just see how much the Oilers spend on their top forward and top defender alone. What is it? 20% of your cap? See what the Devils did - Hishier left money on the table, Hughes definitely left money on the table and so did Meier and Bratt - just to get a beefier support group Top players - the ones just below the McDavids and Matthews must leave money on the table - because also they need a support group... When Gretz was the great one, there wasn’t as much talent parity in the league (In my very humble opinion). McDavid is playing in an era that makes superstardom like this seem less likely. You would think defenses would double or triple team him and it would open up chances for other guys (like Draisaidl) to score (which to an extent, it has). But McDavid just seems to be able to go through defenses like a lion through an extended family of meerkats. How do you defend against a machine like that? If someone figures out how, that person should be immediately hired as a D coach.
There is no way to predict the exact numbers, but assuming he's healthy, 23/24 will be another step up in his game. I don't have any idea how that is possible.... I just don't think he is done.
No shade at McDavid but that 120 point Crosby season is close. You can’t rough players up the way you used to be able to - that’s why scoring’s so high now and power play rate is through the roof.
He has to leave Edmonton to expand. They believe a few godlike players could take them to the cup but what they got was players trying to get a highlight reel goal. They forgot this game is a team game.
he scored a lot of goals sure but like, every time he going on the rush and shoots he takes a llitle break by skating around the net. I think he needs to continue the effort on the play. its as if he gives up after he take his shot. Watch him at live game, its very obvious.
The area of his game that needs the most work has been, and still remains his "give a shit" on defense. He is on the ice for a shit load of goals against.
I've been on teams with players like this. When he had the puck on his stick he would turn into the best player in the rink (not just the ice, the rink - including the 2 teams that played before us and the 2 teams that played after us.) However, when the puck wasn't on his stick, he would always cherry pick and give the other team a power play in our zone. We were better off without him in the long run.
Taking his game to the next level is not goal scoring. It's back checking. He is maybe the fastest player in the league but only going north. He is the slowest person in the league going south
As good as he was this past season, I suspect he will be even better next season. Edmonton came a long ways this year and have a lot to be proud of. Need one more player and someone solid between the pipes.
The Oilers aren't built correctly. You can't have McDavid and Drai and not get to a cup final. Mcdavids release is still not even close to some of the shooters that came before him like Ovi, Kovalchuk, Bure, Mogilny, Hull, etc He simply isent built like those stallions, he's a stick.
McDavid is going to just get better. I think he will improve his numbers this year because he is pissed that Vegas won the cup just like Colorado did. All we can do is sit back and watch him do his magic and enjoy the show!
It’s crazy that this season should’ve been his second 150+ point season. He was on pace for 154 points in the 20/21 season. Imagine him back in the 80’s, he would’ve gotten 120 goals and probably close to 300 points lol.
You could say the same for Gretzky. If he came up in the current generation wouldn’t he have all the same modern equipment and modern education to hockey at the younger ages? You just can’t compare different generations because obviously a modern player with modern equipment and modern understanding of hockey will mop the floor with the older generations. But what if those great players from the 1970s, 80s, 90s had all the same resources as todays players….. something to think about
@@ac4524 of course you could make that argument. But it’s highly unlikely since you have to be a great skater these days, and Wayne certainly wasn’t a good skater.
We all know the Oilers can win games that are shooting festivals. But they need to play all season like it's the playoffs if they want to win in the playoffs.
It's a nice narrative, but not entirely true. What changed was the Oilers got more power plays, McDavid's unit played more power play and scored more power play goals, leading to more power play points. On even strength he actually scored less points than in the 2021-22 season.
He had more points not on the power play this season, only reason he has less even strength points is cause he got a lot more short handed points than he did last year which doesn’t exactly fit the power play merchant narrative you’re trying to push here
@@Bruce918 Anyone can make their own conclusions from the stats. From 21-22 to 22-23: Games played: 80->82 Points: 123 -> 153 Even strength points: 78->75 Short-handed points: 1->7 Power-play points: 44->71
Lol wut? His goal scoring is what needed improvement? 153 points and a + 22. What he needs to improve is his defense. He'll never win being barely a + and a - in the playoffs. He's almost non existent. Scoring 2 goals and 2 assists every night means nothing if you're a -2 at the end. Except individual records. 153 points, he needs to be at least +50. I'd take a Pavs or Bergy any day over McDavid. Even Ovi learned his lesson.

I wouldn't bet against McDavid to get more points next season! McDavid gets better every season
This year I hear it's defense
hes alright
Taking his game to the next level is not goal scoring. It's back checking. He is maybe the fastest player in the league but only going north. He is the slowest person in the league going south
Poor McCupless
He actively sought not seeked
League leading 153 points by a large margin with a +/- of only +22 and a -1 +/- in the playoffs. Lousy.
McDavid 2023: Outright led the league in goals, assists & points.
Who is the last person to do this?
Wayne Gretzky in 1986.
Who cares Connie McPrincess didn’t win the cup, don’t want to hear it🤣😂🤣🧡💙🛢🤡🤡🤡
Wrong. Lemieux did it in 1996 and 1989.
@@KOODA86 lmao bitter much?
@@jfkst1 Wrong. Read what I wrote. "outright" Mario was tied for lead both of the times he did it.
@@KOODA86 this isnt a team thing we are talking about him as an individual and plus it takes everybody to win not just one person
As good as he was this past season, I suspect he will be even better next season. Edmonton came a long ways this year and have a lot to be proud of. Need one more player and someone solid between the pipes.
i wouldn't be surprised if he were to hit 100 assists sometime in the near future
The Oilers aren't built correctly. You can't have McDavid and Drai and not get to a cup final.
Mcdavids release is still not even close to some of the shooters that came before him like Ovi, Kovalchuk, Bure, Mogilny, Hull, etc
He simply isent built like those stallions, he's a stick.
McDavid is going to just get better. I think he will improve his numbers this year because he is pissed that Vegas won the cup just like Colorado did. All we can do is sit back and watch him do his magic and enjoy the show!
Like leon said: be more selfish and u will score 60
Imagine if he played for a team that didn't suck balls
@@MrABN86 Wayne is a winner not a regular season god/ playoff zero like Connie McPrincess 🤣😂🤣🧡💙🛢🤡🤡🤡
@@KOODA86 ok, how many cups did Wayne get without those Oiler teams with Messier, Kurri, Coffey, Fuhr etc? They did win without him though….
@@MrABN86 How many cups has McJeebus won alongside his sidekick Leon Transsaitl?🤣😂🤣🧡💙🛢🤡🤡🤡
We all know the Oilers can win games that are shooting festivals. But they need to play all season like it's the playoffs if they want to win in the playoffs.
How many videos have you done with the words
" changes everything " in the title?
Buddy could score 1000 goals in a season but he still has no cup. Tick tock… ⏰
Better
Lack of league depth due to over expansion + talent same as Gretzky in the 80s
I’d still take Mackinnon, Bergeron or Datsyuk over McDavid any day.
i don't disagree one bit since they got 1 cup (2 for datsyuk) but you gotta admit what mcdavid is doing individually is just uncanny
@@ubetcha5075 Should’ve specified in their prime.
Ulmark out scores him next season
Connor Mcdavid is the best hockey player that will ever play the game. Look at the facts. I don’t give a single fuck about what anyone says
From 21-22 to 22-23:
Games played: 80->82
Points: 123 -> 153
Even strength points: 78->75
Short-handed points: 1->7
Power-play points: 44->71
He is great. Almost as good as Crosby. Keep practising Buddy!
don't know how to spell eh?🤣🤣
Connor McRegularSeason ready for another early trip to the golf course

Round exit coming up for the oiLers🤣😂🤣🧡💙🛢🤡🤡🤡
@@KOODA86 whatever u say bud
You can't improve on that. I think my guess is safe that he will not score 153 next year
Best player of all time🤷♂️?
I don't think he improves on last season
He needs more help
Unless you win a cup....
oh jesus stop with this bs already
Something McJeebus will never do with the oiLers🤣😂😂🧡💙🛢🤡🤡🤡
He's not McJesus anymore. McGod. Get the Cup next year.
He has risen.

Waste of my time to watch this vid, where does the NHL change? Is it 3 on 3 all 82 games? This creator is ridiculous, ridiculous
Greatest player that cant win a cup....hmm 99 had no prob 87 had no issues....Conner is not a leader he is only a goal score not a winner.
Who cares. He’s on an L team.
What records can he break of Gretzky’s?
