  • As Hitler laid siege to Leningrad beginning in September 1941, the Soviet population slowly starved to death. Over the next 872 days, a lack of supplies led to the deaths of nearly 700,000 civilians. At the same time, a group of botanists were surrounded by all kinds of nutritious seeds and tubers. You see, these were men and women tasked with preserving wild species of plants to one day be used to stave off famine. Their mission was no less than to prevent people from starving all over the world. And they took their jobs so seriously that they never touched the food around them, leading many of them to die of hunger in the name of science. #shorts

    No matter what nation you belong to you should admire the dedication and the spirit of those who sacrifice themselves to accomplish Ardeous tasks who perform like these scientists
