Fletch's Imperial LeBaron Rebuild Part 2: Classic Restos - Series 49

  • Fletch is at home for a critical time in the restoration process of his 1968 Imperial LeBaron. The engine is back from the Goulbourn Engine Centre, and Fletch begins putting the engine back in the Imperial. There are numerous aspects to the reassembly, and Fletch walks us through each of these, including a paint job of the engine, fitting of the exhaust manifolds, fuel pump, torque converter and radiator, to name a few, before we get to the main event.
    Andy, the engine rebuilder, travels down to Fletch's shed for the all-important final connection of all the electricals, timing, firing order and start-up. Fletch is a little anxious, and it takes a little time for the fuel to come through. It's a very long way from the fuel tank on the LeBaron, but it finally does, and it's happiness all around. A significant milestone in the process.
    Fletch only gets a short 6 metre run with the new engine because it doesn't have any brakes right now, but just enough to be satisfied that all is in working order. Part 2 is complete, and the ’68 Imperial LeBaron restoration is edging closer to completion and a final reveal.

    Fletch you can't go wrong with an Imperial. The most carefully manufactured car in the US. Have loved them since I was a little kid. I love my 1959 Imperial Crown!

    Love your Imperial, great colour. Fantastic you became the next care taker. Very contagious laughter. I currently own two black 73 Imperials.

    Great episode. Thank you. Good to see the big girl moving. Buying quality is always the best choice, as is recognising the people who help with the journey. Will we see another video about a certain young lady in the U.S.A who is restoring her classic car with her dad?

      Hi David, good point (no pun intended lol) I didn't film the underside of the cap - but it is unscathed and like new. That rotor button was obviously crap from factory - anyway, a new one is on now and works 100% - Cheers David. Fletch :-)

    Mr. Fletch, your project is coming out great! A couple of questions: Is there a part three to look forward to? Why were the rocker covers not re-sprayed when you painted the engine? What is your plan for the Caddy Deville sitting in the background?

    • @classicrestostv1fletch764
      @classicrestostv1fletch764 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi Donald - good questions. Yes, there will be a Part 3. The rocker covers are sprayed clear to preserve them as found. There's even a factory number on the left bank that I cannot part with. I want to keep the car as original "as found" as possible. A big bright new engine just wouldn't suit I believe...the rocker covers in clear take the "new" away a bit, same as the air cleaner . My beloved 1972 Caddy is 100% original also (apart from a full mechanical overhaul) and is remaining "as is" - yes, it too needs to be featured one day. Cheers Donald, bests, Fletch.

    Very cool/in-depth video series. Hard to find, though. I think you'd have a LOT more views and subscribers if it were easier to find. Maybe add the year "1968," to the subject.

    Hey Fletch. Love those 67 & 68 Imperials. I've got my eye on one. How did you go with asbestos when you imported it?

      Hey buddy - just lost my front brake pads & rear shoes. It's a pain in the arse to be honest - another ridiculous law made by people with zero clue. A 1962 Cadillac has just arrived as well - all brake shoes missing. At least nothing else was touched. Cheers, Fletch.

    Can't be too many of these beasts downunder. Nice one.
    Always thought that Imperials were the inspiration for the big Russian GaZ.

    • @anasevi9456
      @anasevi9456 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      its funny as it wasnt until 2014 or whenever russia was started making bonza bucks off oil/gas that we saw a fully new successor to that old soviet era yank landyacht knockoff GaZ/ZiL chauffer cars.
      Aurus or something, looks like a rolls knockoff, but its fully domestic made besides some Porsche engineering input on the engine.

    Don’t run the exhaust gasket mate.
    They don’t run them
    If the manifold is straight they are all good

    • @smiddysmidton8313
      @smiddysmidton8313 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes you don't have to run them as they didn't factory but it's good practice to use them now or at very least an skim of RTV.
