    Hi Graham, it was me who sent the morse code/Overland Telegraph postcard.
    It basically said "Hi Graham, I hope you like my morse code themed postcard. Sincerely, Kate"
    It was hard putting all the dots and dashes together in such a small space.

    • @ExploringStamps

    Thank you so much for putting your content and enthusiasm in your videos. I live in The Netherlands and it is not very commun for people younger then 70 years old to collect stamps here. I never stopped collecting stamps, but the last years i started again to be enthusiastic about this great hobby. And now I am on fire with the hobby and can't stop working about it. Its your TH-cam videos that makes me more enthusiastic and encourage me to share it also with younger people! Thank you so much, Camiel.

    Graham what a fantastic episode! I LOVE what they did with the carousel stamps... That was exciting for me because contrary to popular opinion I was originally not a huge fan of them - mostly because I think a single stamp from that set on an envelope looks awkward due to the shape. But obviously I was being unimaginative! The way they displayed it on the parcel is brilliant and turned me from a 'hater' into a fan! Haha. Dragged my husband over to see and he said it looks like a board game. How cool! Someday I hope to bring the little one out to that carousel, too! 5 cents is not a bad price at all. Thanks for this episode, you make them look effortless. 🐱

    • @ExploringStamps
      @ExploringStamps  ปีที่แล้ว

      😊 Yay thank you Lisa! Why didn't I think of board game?! It is so obvious now that you mention it, Chris and Edan did such a wonderful job with the parcel. You totally have to take the little one on a carousel ride in the future.. 5 cents to ride a lion is SO cheap, Canada sounds a little more affordable than New Jersey 🦁😂 . Thanks so much for watching, glad you enjoyed it!

    Hello Graham. Happy to see that the Iranian cards I sent you made it there. You are right about no "official" access to TH-cam in Iran. However, using VPN , we kinda manage (really slow connections though). Your program is the main reason I go through lots of apps to get access to TH-cam. Send my best regards to Laura for being patient with your philatelic interests. You'll hear more from me. And I don't think you have my address on the cards. I'll write the address on the next round of cards I send. Ehsan (yes, you pronounced it correctly the first time)

    Hi Graham
    Reg. the Hering price. Actually the DDR (GDR) used both DM (Deutsche Mark), MDM (Mark der Deutschen Notenbank) and M (Mark). DM from 1948-64. Then MDN from 64-67. And from 1968 on, the M denomination.
    So this Hering made in Rostock DDR is from the sixties.

    Another great episode. Lots to learn about. My personal recollection about the UK decimal day in 1971. I was just starting to sit my school exams at that time so had to forget all I had learned about the old £/s/d and switch to £/p. (I also had to juggle Imperial/metric unit around the same time. (Science subjects were using cm/Kg etc but everything else was still in feet/pounds).
    An odd fact about machins in the UK. In 1997, there was a set of machins issued as 20, 26, 37 & 63 (others followed). The 'P' was left out because they were issued as Welsh Regional stamps and pence is not a Welsh word. There were also dual language NVI's so Welsh stamps had 1 AF/ST or 2 AIL/ND on them.
    Not content with swapping from QEII to KCIII, 'forever' stamps (we call them NVI, No value indicated) without the QR code will no longer be valid in the UK from sometime this year.

    • @ExploringStamps
      @ExploringStamps  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Iain 😊 . I kinda wish that the US would fully switch to metric, juggling imperial and metric is quite a pain (I still don't have a full grasp of the imperial system).
      Yes I learned about the missing P issues 😬. I dont think I have any, but something that I need to pay closer attention to, a Machin collection has so many nuances to enjoy.
      Thanks so much for watching!

    The pre-decimal system is very old and dates back to the reform of Charlemagne in the eighth century. The basis was one pound of silver, called "libra". It was divided into twelve solidi and 240 denarii. This is where the predecimal symbols on British stamps come from: the pound symbol for libra, the shilling for the solid, and the penny for the denarius.

    • @ExploringStamps
      @ExploringStamps  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I’m not sure what the arrangement is with Belgian Frank stamps, but I know that Italian Lire stamps are still used and are valid for postage. For decimal day, the stamps had to be swapped with the post office within a certain period of time, I think the same with cash as well.

      Thanks Barry 😊. It is indeed a 'Big Foot' stamp. Its a local post service called 'Bats Private Post' in Beverly Hills California, these stamps were issuing world local post day this year, and the 4 stamps issued by Bat's private post are depicting 'mammals' that inhabit the territories that are serviced by the Private Post. As an astronomer, another reason to cover up the lens is the static and build up of dust.. Covering it up will reduce that. Normally over short periods of time the dust can easily be wiped away but given time it seems to stick (most likely due to humidity) and then needs a bit of effort to clean off.

    Not sure if anyone has mentioned this Australia (1901-1966) and the former colonies that became Australia (1788-1900) used UK predecimal currency £sd. We didn’t have Australian (national) banknotes or coins until 1910, before then we used a miss-mash of UK and other coins with local banks issuing their own banknotes too. Australia changed to decimal currency on Saturday, 14 February, 1966 at a rate of $AUD2 for one pound.

    Sorry about the loss of your philatelic material and the burns to your desk. An opaque lens cover would definitely be the way to go. As far as personalized stamps, my club, the Calgary Philatelic Society, created many unique items over the last few years including one for our 100th Anniversary last year. We will miss this Canada Post programme. I see New Zealand Post still offers this service. Maybe one of your Kiwi followers could hook you up.

      Thanks Jeffery! 😊 I will have to see if there is someone in NZ who can create one for me. It is unfortunate that the Canadian program came to an end, but at least your club was able to get some created last year, congrats on your clubs 100th anniversary, wow!

    With mounting and displaying stamps, we have several. My wife loves cats, so we have mounted mini sheets and stamps for display. Also we live in Battle East Sussex which is the site of the Battle of Hastings and I made a composite using gb 1966 commeratives, an Edwardian postcard featuring the place where Harald Godwinson died, and an Alderney set showing an extract of Williams coronation as shown on the Bayeux tapestry. (Sorry, don't see a way to show pics of these here.)

    Graham, I am looking forward to your videos so much and they are always exciting to watch. I watch every second of them. The propaganda stamps are neat - so in your face and definitely not politically correct. Refreshing. 🙂

    • @ExploringStamps
      @ExploringStamps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha yes! When a stamp is just so ‘in your face’ it totally makes you look twice or three times at it. I’ve received some propaganda stamps on mail and a propaganda postcard in the past that has been vandalized on route, so I was excited to see this made it here without anyone defacing it. Soo cool 😊 thanks so much for watching!

    hi Graham seeing this video several months late. If no one has said yet, the Iranian stamp showing a helicopter in the desert is a commemoration/glorification of a failed
    US hostage rescue attempt during Jimmy Carter's presidency. Holywood made a film called Black Hawk down about it.

    Hi, in Ukraine we still have the option to make your own stamp. But there is a problem. First, the stamp dealers sell them too, so you can accidentally buy stamp that isn’t official lets say, and the second problem is that people start to make stamps “russian warship…” so there a lot of similar but not original stamps… its just fun fact, thanks for the video :)
