  • The last few weeks of World War II in Germany were chaotic. Shot down two weeks before D-Day, P-47 fighter pilot Wally King experienced the turmoil first-hand. Now 97 and living in New Wilmington, PA, Mr. King relives the uncertainty and desperation, along with unexpected moments of humanity. Pittsburgh CAPA High School history teacher Kate Harris brings historical perspective to Mr. King's account, and explains why today's students should listen and learn from his story.

This is a real gem. We have so few WWII veterans still with us. Recording their stories is essential.

Thank you for the producers of this documentary. A few people today realize how close the world came to being in golfed by the forces of totalitarian racism, and I’m not trying to be politically correct here, the Japanese in the Germans were racist to the bottom of their souls, and they would’ve killed all the rest of us had they prevailed.

Need to make one correction in the description. He was shot down two weeks before VE-Day, not D-Day.

That movie is based on a true story. The SAM scene with the missiles chasing them is fiction but the rest is true.
