What's that noise? Questionable escalators at the Smithsonian Metro

(August 2014) They sound a little bit like whales...
The guy in the middle of the video was trying to sell me a map, which is why I wasn't paying him too much attention.

When I visited DC, I was amazed at how many escalator issues the Metro system had. Seemed like every station had at least a couple that were broken. Reminds me of that old GoRemy video (Metro Song, if you want to look it up).

Well, with 588 escalators, there is always something to go wrong! And when these escalators are exposed to harsh environments and constant abuse, them still running is a pure testament to whoever the hell manufactured them lol.

And that would be Westinghouse. Most of them are being modded or replaced by Schindler or KONE now.

it's not union elevator company with highly trained mechanics...its the guys from metro who are teamsters who are trained by metro...

Teamsters are union and can do good work, but in this case they are improperly trained by Metro. I have heard before that Metro has terrible maintenance and hire low quality workers.

I was at Farragut North, and the escalators did that. Metro's escalators are slow, unreliable pieces of shit. I hope these new escalators will be... better but I wouldn't put money on it.
