What did they think the advantage would be riveting the rotor to the axle.?

Yea a push on clip over the stud would have fixed that heck the 80 was the lowest hp vette ever built so you know it wasn't a hp thing. lol

@@scottsinfl The reason for rivets goes back to the earliest days of the design. The thing to think about here is how very unusual 4 wheel disc brakes were in the 70s and it was unheard of when this design was first installed in the mid-1960s. This design is OVERKILL for sure but then again GM gave you more durable rotors than we get as "standard equipment" on cars today. These weren't designed to be "throw away rotors" with each pad change. Doing it this way probably made for more predictable and consistent "run out" variances too. All things considered it's easier to understand why it was done this way.

Yea sometimes you have to smack it good to get it loose from the rivets. Rubber body hammer and you won't damage the rotor unless your replacing the rotor them a good little 4lb hammer will pop it off. Also just start a lug nut a few turns so the rotor dont fly off and do damage somewhere else. Good luck they are no fun.

You mention you will be doing further work so I wont be a jerk and assume. I'll say this independently, do not do this with bearings you plan to use.
