This song takes me back to summer days/nights as a young kid riding along in a 67 Mustang with my dad and this song came on the radio. Wonderful times. Boy I miss those days.
This is proof that masterpieces are timeless. They cross eras and borders without losing the brilliance of their splendor. Wonderful song, from Senegal 🇸🇳,West Africa
I feel the same about the Beetles, I'm 40 years younger than them but many of their songs speak universal truths. I end up singing them even though I have no right to. And this song is lovely too.
All simple and without all the houdy toudy high tech shenanigans. Simplicity , i.e. less is more, especially in this genre. The chord voicing and the suble countetpoint.
My true love asked this question on more than one occasion and I'm here to tell you that after she passed from this world, I still love her, and it's the day after tomorrow.
Man, I get emotional when I hear this beautiful song. This is how music supposed to sound like. Back in the day when the music required true talent. So honest and the music was played and recorded without any computers.
you can still record good songs with computers. The only problem is, you don't have to. you can record crap and push it in everyone's face, hoping it will stick and buy you a coffee
Listening to this song I feel like crying...growing up in the 80s I use to hear these kind of songs playing all the time....and my sister and I use to sing and sing while doing chores...and hum the parts we don't know...those were the best times...memories don't leave like people 🎶 ❤
This song came out when I was nine and my friends older sister used to play this over and over. A few years later she killed herself 😣 due to “a moments pleasure”. Rest in peace Sheila 💔
No matter who sings this song on stage or records it, the Shirelles OWN this song. It's THEIR song, just as Judy Garland owned "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in my Mom & Dad's generation. I'm so glad I grew up in the 60's and experienced groups like the Shirelles and the many others that the 60's put out. The Shirelles were one of my all time favorites and this song is too. It was an honor dancing to your songs back then ladies. God Bless.
I'm younger but in addition to the Shirelles, Carole King and Gerry Goffin also own this song because they obviously wrote it, but Carole King has sang it in concert and included it on Tapestry. Shirelles own the group version, Carole solo.
Yeah, I agree with Tom. The Shirelles don't own it, sorry bud. Carole's version is so much better and much more passionate and real... because she and Gerry were the one's who wrote it. But that's just my opinion.
Francis-Jasper Dela Merced Well let me reword my statement. "To boomers", the ones that were actually here when this song came out & digging the music, to us, the Shirelles own this song. We don't think of Carol King when this song is played. Kind of like most people don't think of the writer of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" when we hear that song, we think of Judy Garland. She may have wrote this song but Carole King didn't show up singing songs in public until later in the early 70's.
Dennis H Your absolutely right in fact the song was written especially for the Shirelles. Also it was the first number 1 and million seller for an all girl group in the 60's! The Shirelles made this a hit educate these fools! I traveled with the Shirelles since I was !6 I;m 58 now,and yeas the Shirelles own this song. It was Carole's and Gerry's first hit. And her doorchimes play Will you love me tomorrow!
+mike kaufman This is a perfectly constructed pop song. The strings are great, but they don't 'make' the song, they 'polish' it. And as they say, you can polish a turd all you like - it's still a turd. And this song is definitely not a turd!!
+mike kaufman Carole King herself arranged the strings when she had no idea how to arrange strings. She checked a book out from the library to learn for this recording session.
Boy, you're right about that, Mike. I've always loved this song, the Shirelles sound phenomenal but the strings give me goose bumps *every* time I hear this song, including this very moment. Gorgeous.
Play the strings alone as they are. *The Girls Sing Accapella alone,* COMPARE. The singers can do without the strings. The strings was added after the song was created. *THE STRINGS FOLLOW THE MELODY OF THE SINGERS!* I don't hear people humming the melody of the strings. I do hear millions *Singing, "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow!"*
This song is absolutely amazing 😻🤩😻... My condolences if I invade your privacy, it's my pleasure to meet you, How are you doing? I hope I meet you in a pleasant mood..?
Such young voices in perfect harmony . Who else notices the simple backing music ?.. Testament to the singer's natural talent that shines .No flashy props , skimpy clothing or suchlike required. So wonderful for those of us who lived through this music to be able to relive it over & over again... Peggy Wood (Aotearoa)
This beautiful song takes me back to my High School years in the early 60's. It brings back good memeories. I believe this was the very first of many more great melodies composed by Carol King.
But wait.... BLM said everyone was always oppressed and racism and stuff...oh. wait... they're lying??? Could they have some ulterior motivation to lie?!?!?!?!
Another great song of my teen years. I remember relaxing to it after finishing my homework whilst I studied High School. Those were very good days for me. I had no worries and lived happily.
I love this song, sung by the Shirells. Always remember the lead singer of the Shirells, Shirley Austin Reeves (by the one and only Carole King and Gerry Goffin) Memories of my youngest brother teaching me to roller - skate backward 2 step at the age of six. He was 16. He now passed in 1986 , with beautiful memories of this artistry and musicians I will always remember. ❤ Thank you all!!❤
Ive forgotten more songs than i can even count and this one is one of my all time favorites. Just a perfect pop song, beautiful melody and poignant lyrics.
If I can pick only one song to call my favorite of all time from the best era in music, this is it! Shirley Alston is phenomenal. Great New Jersey stuff. I can listen over, and over, and over. Nearing 70 years of age and still feeling young. Maybe listening to great music such as this helps keep me this way. If so, I'm going to dedicate myself to listening to mainly pre-1964 music forever.
"The Shirelles were an American girl group notable for their rhythm and blues, doo-wop and soul music who gained popularity in the early 1960s. They consisted of schoolmates Shirley Owens (later Shirley Alston Reeves), Doris Coley (later Doris Kenner-Jackson), Addie "Micki" Harris (later Addie Harris McFadden), and Beverly Lee. Founded in 1957 for a talent show at their high school, they were signed by Florence Greenberg of Tiara Records. Their first single, "I Met Him on a Sunday", was released by Tiara and licensed by Decca Records in 1958. After a brief and unsuccessful period with Decca, they went with Greenberg to her newly formed company, Scepter Records. Working with Luther Dixon, the group rose to fame with "Tonight's the Night". After a successful period of collaboration with Dixon and promotion by Scepter, with seven top 20 hits, the Shirelles left Scepter in 1966. Afterwards, they were unable to maintain their previous popularity. The Shirelles have been described as having a "naive schoolgirl sound" that contrasted with the sexual themes of many of their songs. Several of their hits used strings and baião-style music. They have been credited with launching the girl group genre, with much of their music reflecting the genre's essence.
My Grandmother(bless her soul)danced to this classic! Pure gold with a sweet innocence that can never be captured again. Grandma you and your generation had great taste in music and you raised one heck of a daughter too. My mom.
OMG I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH!! Also, the lead singer (Shirley Alston Reeves)'s face is so stunningly pretty! (move over, Beyonce!) **screams like a 1960s obsessed teenaged fan**
The middle back up singer is so sunny. She seems to be the one who's living her best life here. Can't stop smiling when I'm looking at her. Anyway, these Ladies are so classy and beautiful ❤️
Every time I hear music like this I long for the days when singers could sing,no auto tune nonsense, no obscenities,no demeaning ,materialism over moral certitude. Some day this music or something in a similar vein will return to humanity.
Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These women are spectacular in each and every way. I only wish I had half their talent. These ladies are so incredibly talented and lovely.
Omg, me too and I just turned 40. My Mom used to sing this song when she was in a band in the 80’s with my Dad. These songs bring back so many memories!
Singers of the old-school era had so much passion in their songs that you could relate. Every song you would hear from that era brought back wonderful memories. Those artists sang from the heart and soul, and the women and men dressed with sophistication, dignity, and class. None of that raunchy, stripper rump shaking from the women, and men didn’t disrespect women when they sang about them, they didn’t refer to women as bitches and Ho’s. Just classy, and with such smoothness! Love, love, love, respect, and appreciation…classic! ❤❤❤
Everything about this era with all the black groups is some of the best music this country has ever produced. Nothing can compare with it today. What a time! so glad I was around to enjoy it. They still put this music in movies today. Love the habit of putting instrumentals into the songs like they did then, especially the violins and bass. Try listening to "Stand by me" and smoke gets in your eyes" among others of that time.

The lead singer of the Shirelles deserves to have her name remembered. It never gets mentioned. It's Shirley Alston Reeves.

I love music like this, and music like Aphex Twin. If anything, the former is easier to write and perform. Don't narrow your possibilities.

I feel so sad. Born in one lovely world, but ending up in another. What happened ???
This came out in the 60s.
The Shirelles released this in 1960. By the time you heard it, it was already classified as an "oldie". :)
