This is the kind of performance that makes me want to dive deeper into the Octatrack. What an incredible machine it is, in the right hands tho. Great stuff Jay, inspirational as always
Anyone can set up a bunch of scenes and go to town with the Octatrack. But it’s another thing completely to see such a well orchestrated and assembled track with several pieces of gear working together all doing what they have to do. Definitely inspirational. Definitely exquisite. And I hope to one day get to reach something as well controlled and put together this. Cheers!
In your videos what i love the most is that you go from pure emotions to technical lessons and this is the second case: I learnt a lot about the gear u use, thanks!
Many thanks for sharing how your set-up works and what each machine is doing. I've been listening to "Youth on Age" and "Grief and Love" on repeat for months. Inspiring, stellar work 🖤 spreading the word as much as possible!
More inspiration! Man you have a good handle on your machines. This just turned my kinda depressing morning into something much much better. Thank you.
Oh yes, do us a favor, make a lot of sound like this, I mean, keep playing hardware, toys, whatever, with this only goal, which is having fun to do it and to listen it. Many many thank you for this amazing sound!
Love this setup, dreadbox + moog make a great basis for jams like this and your mastery of the octatrack is impressive. I've been avoiding shelling out for one but it's the only device that does what it does (that I've found) and it perfectly fills the hole in my improvisational/live work
Wow I'm the first, that doesn't happen often ;). Cool to see that you acquired a model 1. I have one too, love it. the sound + drive is awesome too. What drums are you using? is it an addictive drums sample again :)?
That was beautiful! I was like 🥳 after the 2 builds: intro @0:52 and the one in the middle @4:02! (The Model One is very nice mixer except for its price maybe 😅)
The Model One's price is a little hairy, yeah, but if you just think of it as seven LPFs, seven HPFs, six drives and EQs, etc., plus all analog circuitry, it seems a pretty fair price for what they're offering (and the thing is built like a tank!). And thanks!
Hey Jay. Great tune as usual. I really love the filtered sample and hold lfo part in the middle. I need to dust off the OT! I was wondering if you have ever done a jam with both the zen delay and the cosmos. I really like the sound of both of them and imagine that having both of them would make some insane textures. The feedback on the zen delay seems like a whole other instrument in and of itself and fed into the cosmos could be really amazing. On the other hand feeding the cosmos into the zen would be amazing with that filter. I'd love to see what you'd make from having those 2 devices chained together.
Oh I liked this one a lot! You're definitely a wizard 🪄 freaking good job with the mixing, analog is not easy to space out without sounding muddled and overbearing but you nailed it.
Does the Model one have an master INSERT for EFX? I always think that OT works good as an efx box, use with master insert of Pioneer DJ mixer, i don't know if M1 has? You try?
i HAD a minituar as well, but i sold it and bought an midi/usb interface and use iPad apps with rest of my gear. the sub bass from that little box is amazing.
The Zen is very performative and acts somewhat as an instrument. The Empress is more set-and-forget, though with this setup you can turn up/down the reverb mix as needed. And thanks!
. Hello. I'm a bass player. I haven't decided between minitaur and typhon. How do you find the bass synth performance of typhon ? I would love to get your opinions
@@JayHosking oh cool, didn't realize that, thought it was the front panel only. Yeah, you could just move the minitaurs filter cutoff and nothing else, kind of keep the set grounded
That's a really cool setup. I like how you are using the cue outs and the Model One as a sub-mixer for the Octatrack. Is it just Octatrack to PA then after that? The Model one is expensive but it sure sounds nice!
Hey man just asking ... it is worth it buying the zen for the model 1?? Model one has four filter on it. Or the erika zen can make something special matching the model 1?? Let me know please. I need some external efx for my model 1 Ps: erika zen it is analog or digital tube desktop?
Great work, been thinking of getting a model 1 myself. Was wondering are you using compression on the master track? Since you’re using 4 channels, how come you didn’t go with 1.4 instead of 1?
I probably would have gotten 1.4 if I'd seen it available, although I always wondered if I'd need more tracks sometime. Somebody had an open-box deal on the 1. No compression on the 1, as it's going into the Octatrack, but there's compression on the Octa as it heads into the DAW.
Hi Jay, this is great! May I ask how you manage to get so many musical bars in one pattern (seemingly more than 64 steps)? Is it purely by putting the speed of individual tracks at x1/2 and x1/4 (and losing some resolution that way but making up for it through the arpeggiator)? Or am I missing something? Thanks
Amazing song, a bit to much going on for my taste. You could take it slower, go for ten minutes tracks and make the Octa effects more subtle. The Zen rules em all, Thanks!
Of course, Stu! I recorded into my standard audio interface, the Qu-16! One of the goals was to design a setup that had only stereo outs, so it'd be easier to potentially play live, so I could have recorded to nearly anything with the setup, though.
@@JayHosking Thanks! I take it you weren't interested in multitracking into the daw for this one? (Of course I'm asking as I assess my own live setup and decide what is/isn't important to me.)
@@stujay I mean, multi-tracking is so useful for a proper mix, but the goal was to get it down to something that a house PA system could handle (rather than a bunch of stereo DIs). The other advantage of having everything feed to a stereo out is that I can use master-level effects for performance. It does mean I have to mostly get the mix right before recording, though.
I was also irked that the sliders are LED and they didn’t use them to display modulation rates. They gave me lame excuses about noise, I design this type of audio equipment it’s doable for sure.
This is the kind of performance that makes me want to dive deeper into the Octatrack. What an incredible machine it is, in the right hands tho. Great stuff Jay, inspirational as always

I really love this song.
For me this has some Luke Vibert, some AFX, The Prodigy, and some Square Pusher influences which are all great things. Fire track!

This was awesome
Really beautiful sounds, love your work!
killer.
Hey thanks so much!
brutal performance and composition as usual.... ⚡
Well done! Great use of all of the various features on this gear… what a chore to even wire this all up and troubleshoot sync and all… 🤘
Amazing skills 😨
Utterly transfixed the whole time. Incredible work.

daaaamn, i comeback to your jams every once in a while and they always blow me away! this is epic
More inspiration! Man you have a good handle on your machines. This just turned my kinda depressing morning into something much much better. Thank you.
Such a dynamic track Jay, been back for this many times,
You just can't beat that Minitaur for bringing the bass
this went places. Really cool!
Nice work by the way :D ligit set up too, your mix is ligit
Model 1 mixer is pretty cool! Good showcase of it and how to play the mixer!
Soooo good Jay!!

Love the glitchy effects! Great song too✌🏻
so good!
one of the best to date
Really awesome work. So much depth and movement love it. This is something I can never achieve so great to see you in action.
That Octotrack is a monster!
Great example. Depeche Mode is proud!
Flippin heck this is epic!

NIIIIICE setup.
Get a badass table cloth under
Like Manna from The Heavens , Mr. JAY HOSKING is at it again - Powerful cinematic track , and unmistakenly "Hoskingianna" Flabbegast'n Awe !
Fantastic track!
Great work, always so joyful and inspiring to hear you
Probably my fave of your OT vids thus far. Cheers--this one is legit badass.
Same here (and a bit disingenuous, as I'm this chap IRL.) Had to give this one two thumbs up. 💕
So good! You are such a talent Jay
Thanks so much! Means a lot, coming from you.
Masterful. Love the typhon
What a set up!!! Awesome stuff man!!
Absolutely killer setup and great sounds! Wow
Great track man! Very nice octatrack action here!
Simply amazing!! Thanks for sharing.
That’s one heck of a nice mixer! Thanks for the performance. I really enjoy the art/content you’re putting out there. Take it easy :-)

Beautiful sounds and what a cool workflow! 🔥 Great track
Whenever I hear DJs complaining about the price of the model 1, I'm sending them this video.
Great stuff! One of your best, i think…
Very nicely done 👍
Makes me want to get the zen delay (maybe vst version) :)
Brilliant.
Oh I liked this one a lot! You're definitely a wizard 🪄 freaking good job with the mixing, analog is not easy to space out without sounding muddled and overbearing but you nailed it.
A little more chaotic than your recent stuff I have heard, but that is a good thing. Nice layers from the Nymphes in the background the whole time.
Bravo! 👏👏👏
wow a very party suitable track, very cool atmosphere👌🎼
Incredible 👌⚡⚡⚡🤘
inspiring...
Very nice performance, this Mixer 1 looks great for my needs: would you buy it again for such medium music setups?
Please Release that Song on Vinyl
Ace!
F’n 🔥
🙌
Does the Model one have an master INSERT for EFX? I always think that OT works good as an efx box, use with master insert of Pioneer DJ mixer, i don't know if M1 has? You try?
and you can still send cue output to another channel on M1...
i been watching one of CENK tutorial on repeat, i want to get good with using PART to remix pattern buffer, live.
i HAD a minituar as well, but i sold it and bought an midi/usb interface and use iPad apps with rest of my gear. the sub bass from that little box is amazing.
It really is an incredible bass synth, the best I've tried.
You could use the cues to run any/all audio into effects and then back into the mixer on one of the free channels, which would get you near an insert.
Wow this was an amazing performance!! How does the zen delay play together with the empress reverb? ☺️
The Zen is very performative and acts somewhat as an instrument. The Empress is more set-and-forget, though with this setup you can turn up/down the reverb mix as needed. And thanks!

How would you reconfigure the Nymphes if you were doing a full set? It sounds great but the other two synths have presets
Nymphes has presets as well. Probably won't do much to Minitaur, but likely use presets on the Dreadboxes
@@JayHosking oh cool, didn't realize that, thought it was the front panel only. Yeah, you could just move the minitaurs filter cutoff and nothing else, kind of keep the set grounded

You got it: just using the step resolution to double/quadruple lengths. And thanks!
How did you connect the zen delay
To send / return 2, so I can feed whatever audio I want into it.
Amazing song, a bit to much going on for my taste. You could take it slower, go for ten minutes tracks and make the Octa effects more subtle. The Zen rules em all, Thanks!

Wayment, Typhon looks like it’s literally not even powered on 🤔
Screen turns off if you don't alter parameters for a while.

That is an expensive ass setup! But also this performance totally kicks ass and milks every penny out of those pieces. 🫡
Unreal sound !
