I always loved the idea of these. My grandmother told me a story once from one that she attended when she was young. Apparently someone played a prank and somehow nicked some of the students shoes so a good majority of them were heading home at the end of the hop in there socks!
My grandma met my grandpa at a dance and they still remember teaching my mom how to dance like this. Wish dancing nowadays was this fun. Also watch the Andy Griffith show, they have a lot of this style dancing
I'm Kenickie in a HS version of grease and need to know some random 50's dances for when I'm not doing anything specific and was quite surprised by the Grease callout! the HandJive contest is one of the. hardest. dances. but I've been having a lot of fun!
Great to see young people attempting to keep this wonderful era of rocknroll dance alive - but please get your years of origin correct. Some of us are still alive and we lived and breathed some of these dances. Loved them and still do. Get out rocknroll dancing when I can.

What a waste of time!!! I grew up in the 50s in the home of Soul, Blues and Rock n' Roll known as Memphis, TN. You know, the home of ELVIS, greatest entertainer ever. We danced the Bop, the Stroll, the Cha Cha, the Chicken but NOT what you were doing. You need to do better research because you're in the wrong decade!!!🙄🤦

Do you know why they were sock Hops? Because the gym teacher wouldn’t allow shoes on the gym floor...... lol.
Yup! Great times
Exactly! And a lot of the dances were much more challenging on slippery gym floors wearing only socks.
I remember the Wave was called The Swim, in our neck of woods.
makes more sense
I now have twist and shout stuck in my head 🤣🤣
1:09 The Wave
1:53 Lindy Hop
3:22 The Twist
4:40 Hand Jive
❤😂

me too
I'm doing "We Go Together" from Grease, for chorus and we have to do a walk into a line type thing

This was fun 😊 I think I've learned the twist thanks
we are glad you liked the video!

Lovely steps....thanks a lot
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
The swim & twist were in mid '60's.
Awesome.....
LOL. I'm glad I stops jiving. I would have died of laughter.
Cool fun watching.
We called the Wave....The Swim.
“Dancing till ya die “ 😂
clearly done by people who didn't bother to distinguish the 50s from the 60s.
What the heck are you doing...just kidding. This is hysterical
The Swim, The Twist and tight Levi’s were 60’s not 50’s!
exactly. it would have been helpful had they done some basic research.
We didn't do the wave.....that was the 60's. The reason for the socks was we had dances in the gym and it was to protect the floors.
The wave is called the swim
the swim or wavw was from the 60's
Grease is a good source of dance moves...hitchhiked when I shouldn't have
These kids have no idea what they are doing! These are 60's dances,,,not the 50's. I grew up in both decades.
The lindi hop and the Charleston are very much the same but only few diffrences.
Also that is not Lindy Hop, that’s rock n roll which was 50, Lindy Hop has triple steps 6 and 8 count and from 1930s to 1945 ish
Worst stab at a 50s outfit ever, Blake. You win the Men In Tights prize. The Lindy Hop was NOT a 50s dance.
It was in the '40s, we did the BOP in the '50s somewhat like the Lindy Hop.
Whelp, my dancing is a heinous crime.
But can they do the Monkey, the twist, The Boogaloo, the slide, the cha-cha, The stroll, lindy, or the boogie-woogie.
Can someone tell me what type of dance is this? Cause I was looking on Google but don't understand the dance type.
They called it Lindy Hop, but it's not. It's more like Single Step Swing - a very basic version of East Coast Swing from the 40's. Not a 50's dance.
Why is there not many more view and thumbs-up for this video and like a million for that Saudi reporter that was killed?
Well...that's pretty shocking isn't it ? 😂
Adult swim??? Or dirty dancing
Washing the laundry
SORRY YOU TWO, BUT WE DIDN'T DANCE LIKE THAT IN THE 50'S. I WAS A TEENAGER IN THE 50'S AND WE DANCED "THE BOP". NEXT TIME GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!!!!
They didn’t even dress right
that is the swim not the wave (I was there in the 50's!)
Seems like it was better times
lindy is a couples' dance
Nice try, but they don't know much if anything about fifties dance moves.
The Wave is not a 50s dance and neither was the Twist and couples danced together---not separately
The mashed potato
sorry but none of those moves were in the 50's.....The Bop was popular..

do your homework ! those are not 50's dances !!!!
Not a good representation of the 50's.
Rubbish. The men did not dress like that.
utter rubbish
