Mahmoud Ahmed is one of the great singers of Ethiopia, where bands playing ‘modern music’ regularly fill the stadiums and sell hundreds of thousands of cassettes. Mahmoud Ahmed has been at it longer than most. Mahmoud has been a big star for years, has created many standards, and is famed in Ethiopian communities throughout the world. His greatest gift is as a live performer, a master at unleasing the ‘euskeuta’, an ecstatic shivering of the shoulders than can spread like an epidemic across Ethiopian dance floors”...
The first UK live show by this astonishing selection of Ethiopian soul and funk artists, whose compilation CD The Very Best of Etiopiques (Manteca) was one of the world music sensations of 2007. Mahmoud Ahmed is backed by the french Badume’s Band serving up sizzling big band funk, and soul work-outs. A unique east African take on jazz, funk and big band sounds. Recently exposed to audiences outside their native Ethiopia, expect freeform and hypnotic vibes.

I love this song soooo very very much, I feel every single little modicum of it’s dark mysterious groove. To see and hear this live performance of it made me so very happy!! I used to play the
more known recording of this song at house parties. I’d love to learn the language if only to get a better understanding of Mahmoud Ahmed’s, Tilahun’s, Mulatu’s etc music. I was born in 85, but I can only imagine what a music scene was happening around these guys! Bravo from the bottom of my heart!

Wow the saxophone players! Wow! They gave it life. That is what is missing. In Ethiopian music, we dont have real modern musical instrument players. Oh, it just feel wonder full. Thanx for sharing this peace of art.

kirar is used widely in ethiopian music though, but saxophones came to ethiopia very early actually, and is one of the (modern traditional) instruments in ethiopia and east africa overall. like the birth of ethiojazz and the ethiopian saxophone "negus" Getatchew Mekurya
@@trickster33able OH, ya. You remind me of those wonderful '60s and 70's music and musicians. Ethiopian modern music has tried to follow the western fusing with Ethiopians melody and it was a great success until the communist took power. Then they ordered all governmental bands and all bands that got any form of support from the government to sing only patriotic songs, and government media not to play other sorts of music. This went on for almost 17 years. And the last 30 years is running for searching its soul. Some work hard to make a bridge but the finance is hard to get.
