    FYI Before the pandemic.....I was experiencing these problems. This was happening before the pandemic. But the pandemic compounded it as well. I was experiencing labor cost increases since 2014 that were higher than labor cost productivity. It has gotten worse and worse. Causing me as a Business owner to raise my prices. If you want to talk theories that is fine. But it is kind of like telling a guy who has been to the Grand Canyon what it is like when you have only read about it in a book.

    Hey Mike ! in 1984 Autolinia 40X35 mm valve heads were 37,50 in San Antonio. New 1600 motors were 600 with the BV heads . You could get a 350 sbc short block with flat top forged pistons for 199 long block 375
    In 84 it was a very good year
    I only paid a buck for a quart of beer
    I had to pay 250 when I blew 4th gear

    making every panel from scratch would actually be really interesting. Theres some parts i can think of that seem immpossbile to recreate

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea like on a bus I would not even try to make the front and rear floors. too much time and not enough monetary amount saved. But lots of other panels. all the floor supports. all that stuff could be made. Even the outriggers. But making the jack points would be possible but not very easy. I did watch the nova scotia barn door guy make a set so I know I could do it. I just dont know if I want to spend the long term on it. project would take years.

      so yea you get a double whammy. they come through ca then shipped up there. or you can just go through CIP1 which can be the best deal for some stuff. because they have commonwealth buying power and no tax and free shipping. but still some stuff goes through the CA washing machine before it goes to canada.

    I've noticed VW engine parts have went up exponentially along with transmission parts. In 2003 a complete engine was 900$, now an engine case is 1000$ I love West Coast Metric and Wolfsbürg West. On wages I used to make 19$/hr in '99 in NM. Now with college degree and certifications most employers in WI think 19-26$/hr is a living wage in 2023/24. I am glad unions pay a living wage but not everyone has the opportunity to be in one.

    When prices go up then there is less buying. This results in businesses coming down with the price, or if they cannot then shut shop and let the other players continue. (Supply - Demand law). In economics there is the short term effect, and the long term effect. What seems to be happening from what I make out is a short term effect - most probably due to post Covid recovery. Things should iron out in the long term.

      also putting higher corporate taxes and wage pushes create inflation. the only way to stop corporate greed is competition. and putting regulations on corporations does the opposite. VW parts there will be no new companies so they are totally out of control. putting more regulation they just pass that on to the consumer. Competition is the only way to combat corporate greed and the politicians are doing the opposite especially in CA.

    I think that you are missing literally the biggest factor for recent wage increases which has nothing to do with California politics, which is a decreasing entry wage labor force. Declining birth rates and fewer immigrants has meant that there is no one to do entry level minimum wage jobs at restaurants, retail, book-keeping, service jobs, shipping, etc. And that increase demand and fewer workers/applicants to fill them which means to get the folks who are in the job market, employers have to pay more. This is a US problem irrespective of politics or state and its also an issue in the EU.

Now it is impossible for those same small businesses to hire them. Like a guy to sweep floors or dust.....Clean parts. and such. Way to learn the business. Now they just need skilled people because higher wages make it impossible for them to hire a training position. This is why there are so many more homeless and street people that are displaced. I am sure this is happening there too. Lack of entry level positions. Only skilled work...cooks waiter all that stuff is actually skilled.

    "In my Inaugural I laid down the simple proposition that nobody is going to starve in this country. It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country. By "business" I mean the whole of commerce as well as the whole of industry; by workers I mean all workers, the white collar class as well as the men in overalls; and by living wages I mean more than a bare subsistence level-I mean the wages of decent living."
