I have a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 12.1's 😊 and I have listened to the Cambridge Audio SX60's 😊
Both are well worth a listen to ! For me the Wharfedale's sound more detailed and less harsh ... just my opinion ;)
BTW my amp & CD player are Cambridge Audio component's ;) so NO bias towards Wharfedale ;)

Hi, since I have my mini headphones on, I listened to this test. Much closer than when you used the 9.1, but the Cambridge sounded a bit better to me. Wharfdale had a “fatness” to their sound. Thanks!

I think the Wharfedales sound more refined especially on the classical piece. The highs of Cambridge sound nice but I think will get on my nerves in the long run. I vote for the Wharfedales!

The CA have a fuller sounding midrange but the Warfedale 12.1s have a much clearer imaging especially noticeable with the orchestra. While the CA are a warmer sound, I think that adding a subwoofer to the Warfedale would fill in the much needed bass and provide a cleaner sound.

I hear the CAs having a bit more punch in the mids thru the highs while the 12.1s have warmer lows/low mids. Clarity/resolution may be a bit better on the CAs. Both are good budget speakers.

Do you use the same amplifier for both speakers in the test?

Why didn't you remove the grills on the CA 60?

Because the manual recommended keeping them on.

I think the Cambridge have a more neutral general balance, especialy through the midrange. The Whatfedale sounds more like a typical small bookshelf speaker, accentuating treble and bass some and dipping down a bit in their midrange. They have a bit more deffinition and slam though, in their subtly hyped way.

Totally the oppsite with frequency graph charts. I cant find a speaker morr nuetral than the Diamond 12 in this price range, maybe even a step higher. The diamond is flat from 60hz to 17khz where it starts to drop off besides the intentional BBC Dip from around 1khz - 3khz. 18khz @ -3db and 20khz @ -6db.

I don't care much what the graphs say. Who's graphs anyway? They weren't made with this sysrem in this room.
The Cambridge are a bit forward in the mids and lack authority, but the supposedly flat Diamonds always sound
a bit tonaly a texturaly hyped to me. Really not that nuetral.

@@williammiebach1798 EVERY graph you can find on the net about the Diamond 12s. I know uts hard to adjust to very neutral speakers, always prefering the forward and bright sounding ones so I cant blame ya. Going by ears alone wont get you accurate tonality. Yeah, every room will change th tonality of the speakers but it is always the best to start with a neutral speaker. Im here just to tell you that there is no way the cambridge is more neutral than the 12s. I can understand that you like less neutral sounding speakers, and many do, but that doesnt make the cambridge neutral.

I like nuetral speakers. I don't think the Cambridge are particulariy nuetral, but I don't think the Diamond 12.1's are either.
Measurments are one way ro get an idea of a speakers response curve and overall tonality, but they don't give the whole picture of a speakers sound charictor, the way a goid pair of ears do.
I think the Diamonds are pretty good in their price range, but they have a distinct sonic charictor I have recignized in every demo i've heard, and part of it is some textural additives that frequency graphs wouldn't likely identify. Compare them to a pair of BBC LS/5's and you will hear what they add. All I'm sayin'.

@@williammiebach1798 try listening to them in real life, nothing added, only mids pop and they pop real good. I dont hear any textural difference between 12.2 and my yamaha hs8, but the hs8 has a unforgiving and harsh midrange that the 12.2 dont. I would like to know more about this textural difference and see if it exists in my setup when I listen for it.
