      One thing I miss from DVDs and BluRays being popular are all the bonus behind the scenes content they add. Literally hours long footage from LotR showing how things were made, stunts, makeup, etc. Streaming services don’t usually have that content.

      @@rivengle a lot of those LOTR videos ended up on TH-cam! I watched them a few years ago. My favorite, speaking of stunts, was Dominic Monaghan talking about how John Rhys-Davies approach to fight choreography was just letting the stunt people run at him, and then hitting them with his axe.

    “They never stop the shot” I remember in an interview with Jon Bernthal talking about the punisher he said he was doing his own stunts for a certain fight scene and felt his hand break early on but said nothing and kept going through the whole scene. By the time they got it his hand was in terrible shape. Respect the dedication but it’s crazy work

      Difficult decision. He could have caused permanent damage to his hand and effectively ended his career. These days, there's always someone that's after your spot and if a studio has a choice between a stunt performer, and a stunt performer that can't grip properly with one of their hands, they aren't going to take the risk with the second guy.

    Love how professional gui is. When the guy wants to show off doing a back fall off of an object, he shuts it down. Most youtube channels just would have done it for the spectacle.

      The difference is Gui is a professional stunt actor, so he knows where a hard “no” is mandatory. Saying no is mega important for stunts because injuries mean lost work, time, and money.

      Also to be fair, as a BJJ practitioner, these falls are CRUCIAL for out in the streets and not hurting yourself! I got hit by a car on my bike, flew off the handle bars but I somehow was able to brace and roll out of it with relatively no injuries. No helmet either but I won't make that mistake again.

    I've never understood why there's no 'Stunts' category in award shows. They work their bodies so hard, they deserve the recognition.

      The reasoning the awards people give is that how impressive a stunt is depends heavily on how dangerous it is. Thus, having an award that will likely go to whoever did the riskiest stunt would lead to people doing riskier and riskier stunts, endangering lives in the process. But it's never been tested because no mainstream awards show does stunts.

Why would acknowledge someone who intentionally breaks safety protocol? There's always someome on set (legally) whose sole job it is to make sure stunts are done correctly & safely in order to protect the stunt performer.

    I love Gui's style of teaching, he reminds me of my old martial arts instructor. I used to train in Taekwondo had to learn most of the techniques that were shown here when I was younger. It's been almost 5 years since I've stopped training but I've never forgotten how to break a fall because of my instructor. He taught me how and why it's important, as well as explained the techniques in a way that made it easy to follow. That's what makes me appreciate how Gui teaches the guys. He's very clear on the do's and don'ts and prioritizes their safety over anything else.

      yeah, this brought back memories of my beginning days of Aikido and Sambo. I think the small differences is that outside of safety, there is also the additional consideration of making it look good for the camera when it comes to stunts. There is also some wrestling since the motion for the forward fall somewhat resembles a sprawl.

    Watching GUI with the guys. This man is pure and genuine. Watched all the VFX with him. And watched these. I went back and watched his performance as black panther purely out of respect. Love how he is just part of the gang now.

      It’s to remove fear and learn how to fall properly when doing throws and takedowns. But ya you are on point, it’s all the same basic principles on protecting yourself during falls. Wrestlers practice this and rolling for months before learning anything else

    Gui is awesome, he should open a stuntman school! His explanation of things and his sternness from letting Clint get carried away really impressed me, he's a natural teacher! It's one thing to tell someone how to do something, it's another to explain it in a way people can understand and, more importantly, how to stay safe. My respect for him this episode has just skyrocketted, ngl.

    The side fall! When i was younger i fucked up a parkour stunt and fell 8 feet onto concrete, doing this fall that i learned from TH-cam. My skull and ribs were fine, i got a shallow scrape on my elbow and knee, and my butt ended up absorbing all the impact and i came out mostly unscathed. This stuff works so well, i respect Gui for teaching it so professionally and concisely. He's a rad dude
