Really bad boss design, seems to require a very niche strategy to me; from what I've seem so far, it is all about pure dps and some rng.
The pumpkings grim harvest insta kills my typhlosion even with a max potion and bat cookie. Is there a workaround for this?
Coming back to this to prep for this year's event
Guide is great, but god this fight is so frustrating. I just don't understand why they can't make the event fun for everyone.

After a few tries I succeeded but it's not so simple because sometimes the rng doesn't want to be on your side, thank you Patrouski !
It works, just not consistent, havnt seen a consistent strat yet, its the best we have day 1. Good luck on ur fights, ik it can be frustrating
idk what theyve changed but my stage 3 did not go that way he just spammed grim harvest and killed everything in 2 hits

Nearly got it on my first try with this strat but haven’t gotten as close since. the grim harvest spam isn’t even allowing rng to save me
(Edit) it’s rigged I was about to win with no speed drops and rng completely on my side. Something’s fishy
Yeah he used the scythe attack very first turn on phase 3, not sure how to get around that aoe, but it makes my typh and blast pretty much useless.

Yo Pat ty for the vid, sadly i still cant win the fight because i get RNGed like 10 times in a row and i started to think if im just stupid but actually did the same thing u do but i get destroyed in the third phase because my mons already are too low because of muddy water :(
The items being added back to ur mins between phases is definitely bugged. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Hopefully it can be hitfixed soon

For the 3rd phase, one X Special is enough on Chandelures turn, and attack with Assurance on Kroks turn, that way no healing is required at all. Saves some money, other than that cheers for the guide!
Dont use a max potion because you are lvl capped at 50 so a hyper potion almost full heals you and gives you atleast enough to finish 3rd phase also you can use a broom cookie if you get your speed lowered
well its still rng, but works with a little bit of luck
I swear they have gone and changed the battle to make it harder cause its insane
the entangling vines and wither in the third stage that harvest stat changes even inbetween my attacks

true. the damage is capped at 30% so moxie is basically useless. we want big base damage

the Strat ain't perfect, but its all we got. The RnG will always be the main issue with pumpking guys, remember that. Overall better to have A Strat day 1 than no Strat

@@patrouski can even be some brutal rng in the early waves as well where you have to stop using eruption so you don’t lose too much PP

Well spent 2 days building the 3 pokemon with better stats than he had just to get my 💩 pushed in within the second round. I got loads of candy so f it I'll keep trying till the rng hits in my favor I guess...wish I lived in one of those legal hippy states for my nerves sake lol
It kinda sucks you have to be max level to participate in events
My eruption only affected 2 of the 3 monsters and that ruined my run. To fix this put typhlosion on the second slot as a pokemon

the max potion didnt work for me he still killed my typh at 140 hp

tried about 10 times and still cant beat it...
Very good guide, just a fiew adjustments for more reliability: swap the ghost gem with spell tag and have some strong backup pokemon (with choice scarf)
This is not working for me. On the last stage pumpking just spams grim harvest which eliminates my x specials.
Edit apparently if you enter phase 3 below a certain hp pumpking will use grim harvest
Its not super consistent, but should still work. Good luck and i hope u get some good rng, ik its frustrating
@@patrouski i saw another vid that said if you enter phase 3 with a mon at below a certain hp it will spam grim harvest. Unfortunetly i keep getting pumpmage that gets off a muddy water.
managed this first try and only brought one X Special with me. thabks so much pat! clown mask supremacy
since one hour ago I've tried this 7 more times. current success rate of 6/7. some have been nail-biters but if you've got some strong backup Pokemon you can often finish the king off with some water spout and crunch

It has species clause + item clause, so you cant run double typhlosion for example or double choice specs. Good luck on ur fight!

Easy mode is the bossfight ur looking at. Dont mistske it for being easy cuz this boss is more ass than last year.
And hardmode is this, but harder
What is "hard mode" and why would I enable it

Thanks, can confirm it works however just a bit RNG on the stats that get lowered at the end.
Try Chand, Hydrei, and Krook.
Left: Chand
Mid: Hydrei
Right: Krook
Chand: Usual build with safeguard
Hydrei: Dark Pulse/Roost(optional). I see people use choice spec on hydre and its really good, all u need to click is dark pulse anyways
Krook: EQ+Assurance
Note: dont use choice item on Krook as u need to click EQ and Assurance. Also EQ doesnt dmg the opposite side of ur party so its safe to spam it for free Moxie boost.
U also need X special for both hydrei and Chand

Boss is unfun and the difficulty feels artificial, especially in the second round. It feels kinda crummy to use a super niche loadout in order to beat it.

Doesnt work for me. Tried 3 times everytime typhlosion gets speed reduced and king reapers everyone
Its not perfect, should be around 50% consistency, boss is tough and no one has a 100% strat from what ive seen.
It is because of the Screen thing in first turn and the new move grim reaper which the boss spamming
Up to about 10 times now. This strat doesnt work at all. Idk what changed but I always get speed reduced or rained on which turns into a one shot
Nothing has changed or been hotfixed from my understanding, i keep seeing people claim stuff like that. Sounds like some rough RNG. Im sorry thats happening and i wish u the best of luck. @@frozenskeptic345
