The amount of time that it takes depends on how much time you are able to spend on it. Generally it takes at least a few months to get your skills to where you can get started tuning pianos for money, but of course there will still be much to learn.

Hi Steve. I currently have a Yamaha G2 and my upright but I recently found on Gumtree a Steinway Model K 52' upright from 1982 for about £5000. That's something like $7-8000 or so dunno if you've got any experience of this model or know how good it is.
I playeda Bosendorfer 130 at my local piano shop of the same age, just curious what difference there might be, which one is higher quality. Don't worry if you don't know much about these just asking.
Here's the link the piano does need regulating I wasn't that interested buying it myself but I may look at it later if it's still for sale. www.gumtree.com/p/pianos/steinway-model-k-32-piano-matt-ebony-finish-1982-model/1139482389

      Hi Sam,
The K52 is a nice upright piano. I actually rebuilt a 1905 Steinway Model K a few years ago and sold it in rebuilt condition for $7500 which was probably a little on the low end of what it should be worth, but I was kind of in a hurry to sell. It all depends on what kind of condition it is in. If the hammers and action show a lot of wear, then the price may be high as you'd be looking at putting some money into reconditioning in the future. Personally, I prefer playing grands. I don't have a lot of experience with Bosendorfers. In fact, I can't ever remember tuning or working on one. They don't have many of them around here as there isn't a Bosendorfer dealer anywhere nearby. The closest Bosendorfer dealer is about 200 miles away.

+howardpianoind I dunno if it's a k52 or not, it's a 1982, might be an NY model dunno it has straight cheeks as the seller says, new they go for about £18-20-odd thousand so they're obviously not cheap, I played a Bosendorfer 130 too dunno how that compares but obviously your in high-end country here, £5000 looks a good price if it is a 1982/3 though whether it is based on the classic K-52 or is a different series I dunno because they just reintroduced it in the 80s so they must've had something else before, they have the Model Z aswell.
